Even if you don't do a rate, we're still considering this :coffee:

14 Dear Life

T0isZ7s.jpg

The second single from Melanie's most recent album was Dear Life, a gorgeous midtempo comtemplating the ups and downs of life. It's a thought-provoking track, but also with a really strong chorus. I remember being really into this when it came out, so it perhaps has a little leg up compared to other songs, but I still think it holds up now. A definite standout from Version of Me!

I find Dear Life absolutely terrible...

13 Rock Me

GGPlpqS.jpg

Sandwiched in between the This Time and The Sea eras, Rock Me was a standalone release just a few months before Think About It came. The timing's odd - was this originally meant to be the lead single from The Sea? I know it was included on the German edition of the album at least. Nevertheless I'm not overly sure it actually would've slotted onto the album anyway! I actually really like it though, it's far from being her best lyrically but I love how simply carefree and fun it is

I love Dear Life too  I think she sounds very emotive on it. It's a nice take on how you navigate your way through life, the uncertainty of it, making your own choices vs. being influenced by others. Ultimately it all shapes who you are.

Rock Me is fun but I feel like it was similar to I Want Candy in terms of not being a good reflection of what was to come from the era! I think this was specifically a single for Germany, Austria and Switzerland (someone can correct me if I'm wrong), however the digital EP was released elsewhere including in the UK. I suppose nowadays it would simply be taken as being a single everywhere, but it was kind of presented as being specific to those countries... and for us it was just a bonus.

What was that we were saying about chucking you out? :sarah:

I tihnk you're on the line ever since Northern Star didnt get a TOP15 on your list, so please stay in your lane :punch:

Why is Rock Me even a thing? Never liked it, it's a terrible cringe song and video. Like Jay said, a bit like I Want Candy - pointless pop drivel.

FYI, I worked with some of the camera people who worked on the music video and they all said Mel was a bit stuck off lol

I really like Rock Me it's a proper belt out the song type song and I love the video too I like the sporty nod in it (obviously intended for the Women's World Cup as it was the official single for that), and when she is in that blue dress she looks STUNNING!

Dear life I'm not really keen on. I remember really liking it as an album opener but that it was a terrible single choice and I actually ended up going off the song quite a lot.

12 Blame It On Me

300x300bb.jpg

Melanie's newest single already lands at a very impressive twelfth place! Blame It On Me brings out a brilliantly fierce side, proving Melanie doesn't take any crap, and I love it. The production sees her continue down the dance-pop route she's already been following with her singles this era, and it's working so well. Perhaps recency is helping this be quite so high, but I'm loving it at the moment nevertheless!

Great to see this so high up! I'm sure it would feature quite high up my own list already too. If only she had more support, I'm sure a lot of the public would really enjoy Blame It on Me :(

11 Anymore

Don't you just hate it when you want 11 songs in your top 10? :( I hate that this doesn't feature in my top tier but honestly there's nothing I'm more willing to swap out  Anymore was the lead single from Version of Me, and it's definitely my favourite track from it. I wasn't really familiar with many Melanie tracks before I heard this, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear how current and on-trend it sounded. It's held up brilliantly since, too!

Anymore and Blame It On Me are great pop records.

Love them both.
