I adore Understand as an album opener it's wonderful, but as a single it didn't quite work I'm not sure why... probably the terrible video :lol:

 

It just never sounded like a Melanie C track to me, it never rang true. I agree with the comparisons with Coldplay, but just a bit more meh (and Coldplay are already meh)... And that sound was already quite dated by the time it got released.

 

The video killed its chances lol I agree that the song is a cute album track, but it really wasnt screaming to be a single, for sure!!

Yeah I agree, something about Understand doesn't click as a single. I still consider it as a highlight of the This Time album though.

 

Melt isn't too much a loss either. I feel like it was designed to be an epic moment on Reason, but it falls slightly flat for me. It's ok!

It's strange because Melt is also a good song, a perfectly good album track. As a single, it didnt work.

Not even the video, which was bad. But as a single the song doesnt quite work for me either.

A song I actually knew at the time it came out! :lol: Loving You is a pretty decent track - Matt and Melanie sound really strong together and it was a surprisingly inspired collaboration. The song itself hasn't aged completely brilliantly though and I never find myself relistening to it, hence its low position, but I definitely still enjoy it and I'm glad it gave Melanie one last hurrah in the top 40 (even if she should still be getting smashes now in a perfect world x)

I just do NOT get the logic behind that! I mean Melanie can shift 2000 copies of a physical single on her site easily enough, and Matt Cardle must have a fan base than can buy physicals as they did a physical for his next release!?!? They were quite close to top 10 in sales from what I remember those physicals probably would have done it. Really annoys me (more than it should lol) Melanie would have achieved a top 10 in three different decades then. :cry:

 

It's ok cos she features on number ones in three different decades which is a tad cooler :lol:

I thought they DID have a physical copy of Loving You but just looked it up and apparently only in Australia?! How odd...

Loving You - I enjoyed it a lot at the time of release and it was certainly fantastic to see Melanie getting more commercial success than she had done in years. I don't actually return to the song much these days. I guess I tend to focus on her main songs from her own projects and the side projects tend to slip my mind! I'll have another listen soon.

 

The lack of a CD single... they really dropped the ball there. :( Could have made all the difference and given them a Top 10. What was a bit frustrating is that Matt's follow up single was released on CD in the UK, as Spiceboy pointed out!

25 High Heels

A more recent song, High Heels kicked off Melanie's current single campaign. It set the tone well with dancier production and a fun vibe, but it definitely doesn't make quite as much of an impact as the singles that followed. It's a little more... throwaway? But heaps of fun and it's nice to hear Melanie simply having some fun.
