14. Kylie Minogue – Spinning Around 168 points

Colour. Me. SHOCKED. :o :o I was sure 'Spinning Around' would have finished comfortably in the top 10 before I got knee-deep into the results. In fact, Kylie WAS in the top 10 at one point but later votes let her down. Rejoice Kylie fans, the queen of gays has enjoyed a lot of success throughout this decade so she will have many more opportunities.

Devastated! I was the only voter to give 'Lady' maximum points yet it has done remarkably well overall. Some of you may have noticed the big leap in points between 'Spinning Around' and this - 23! - and like Kylie's track this was stationed in the lower half of the top 10 at one point but my excitement dissipated as the later votes came in. I loved this back in the day and this rate has allowed me to rediscover it. I just wish it made the final rate. Oh well. :P 191 points though..! Together we stan!

12. All Saints – Black Coffee 198 points

At #12 we have the first of two All Saints songs to appear in this heat. Unlike the previous couple tracks, 'Black Coffee' had a very slow start in this vote. After the first 12 voters cast their votes the track only received 16 points! It wasn't until the 14th voter (Jester) that the track received its first set of double-digit points. 'Black Coffee' proved much popular with later voters which has allowed it to finish at a very strong twelfth place! Is 'Pure Shores' one of the ten qualifying tracks for the final rate or is it going to be at the dreaded eleventh position? :kink:

As in you're disappointed it missed the top 10 or you don't like the song? Because you didn't give it any points. :gaga:

11. Melanie C & Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes - Never Be the Same Again 206 points

So it is one of the Melanie C songs which misses out on a place in the top 10 and therefore narrowly misses out on a place in the final rate! It was 22 points behind the song in tenth place so even if there was one more voter and they gave it maximum points it would still not qualify - perhaps that's a comfort to its fans?

In alphabetical order, the top 10 songs from 2000 making it through to the final rate are:

All Saints – Pure Shores

Blink 182 – All The Small Things

Britney Spears – Oops I Did It Again

Darude – Sandstorm

Eminem featuring Dido – Stan

Fragma – Toca’s Miracle

LeAnn Rimes – Can’t Fight The Moonlight

Melanie C – I Turn To You (Remix)

Sonique – It Feels So Good (Remix)

Spiller – Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)

Please join us tomorrow as Addy will be hosting the results for the 2001 heat. :cheer: In the meantime I would love to know your opinions on the qualifying 10 songs. :gaycat:

Wow what a bland top 10, for me anyway 😂 I think I only voted for 1 or 2 of them and even then probably single points.

some great qualifiers there, big yay for Sandstorm and Groovejet particularly.

All the Small Things standing out in the worst way tho, did we have to let that in -_-

You gave Groovejet 16 points, Pure Shores 12 points, Oops I Did It Again 5 points and Toca's Miracle 1 point. :sarah:

I thought you'd be pleased with the dance representation in the top 10. :kink: Blink 182 shade will not be tolerated though. B-)

Nice to see Blink-182 make it in!

I'm glad it made it. It's one of the defining songs of the early 00's for me.

and omg I voted for 8 songs that qualified :smoke: (bar Stan and All The Small Things!!!)

Addy your taste has malfunctioned. :gaycat:

Quite a few songs I voted near the bottom ('Operation Blade', 'Bound 4 Da Reload', 'Blow Ya Mind', 'Take A Look Around') but none I was the only voter of, I think. Surprised 'Out Of Your Mind' couldn't ride the Spice Girls' popularity to more votes. Poor 'Time To Burn' only #46 but that's probably good for a second-tier (in success) trance hit with no real profile.

Surprised 'American Pie' made the top 40 honestly; I've never had anything against it and in fact loved it when I first heard it (2010), but I wouldn't think it's among many people's favourites. 'Freestyler' is way too low but if I recall correctly it was (bafflingly) something like #97 out of 100 in the recent #2s rate in the chart forum so at least it's an improvement. Behind 'Don't Give Up' feels weird though, wouldn't have expected that to be strongly cared about. 'Flowers' deserved better! Not sure I'd heard of 'Sitting Down Here' before but I noticed it seemed to get a lot of votes.

Nice to see 'On The Beach' and 'Kernkraft 400' top 30 :D 'The Real Slim Shady' (or really any Eminem song bar... 'Stan', the Rihanna features and probably 'Lose Yourself') doing so well on this site is surprising!

'Silence' top 15  I'm guessing you listened to the Tiësto remix? I think that's the most popular version nowadays (and probably one of the biggest trance classics), but FYI, the

was the 2000 UK hit version (with the Tiësto remix on the single as track 2), while the original release that charted at #73 in 1999 had the
(my favourite version, and also the one released in Australia where it was a top 10 hit), and all of those are remixes of the
which is more trip hop/ambient-like.

That's a pretty tight final 10! I voted 6 of them. Love seeing 'Sandstorm' through  and, very surprisingly, 'All The Small Things'!!

'The Real Slim Shady' is such an underrated gem in Eminem's back catalogue and the video is one of my favourites from him. He actually delivered some brilliant videos in the early 00's.

Thanks for clarifying which 'Silence' version was the hit in 2000. As I researched it on wikipedia it didn't make it clear which remix was the one featured here. The amount of remixes the song has...!!

I'm all for shocks an surprises making the top 10 so I'm here for both 'Sandstorm' and 'All The Small Things' qualifying. :cheer: It makes it more interesting and varied than having 10 pop girl tracks dominating.

that sounds bad but that was 99th of all time, it did well to even make that top 100 I guess.

when I ran Ultimate #2s of the 21st century, it finished in 151st, out of 300 - so it's slowly improving through the years.

(I know you love stats so here's where I got this from and may be to your interest. :P)
