Terrible winner.

How did their most nondescript, bland song win this?

I find it astonishing that in a discography like theirs, someone would call that their most bland and nondescript song.

Whole Again is great :)

but they kinda lost me after that with their endless list of covers, they sadly became a sorta female UB40

their Bangles cover was beyond bad :(

I must be missing something with Whole Again... everyone adores it here. It certainly doesn't strike me as one of the best pop songs of the past 20 years. Maybe if I was a fan of AK prior to WA and witnessed it saving their career I may have more of an attachment to it but I wasn't and I don't. :gaga:

I didn't hear Whole Again until a year or two after it came out and I still love it! Each to their own but it's absolutely one of the most iconic pop songs ever, and even more so in the field of girl group singles!

Endless list?

Eternal Flame

The Tide Is High

Ladies Night

In their defence re: "endless covers" they were one of many pop acts releasing them. Girls Aloud released one every year until 2007 (Jump, I'll Stand By You, See The Day, I Think We're Alone Now, Walk This Way) - then you had Steps (Tragedy, Better The Devil You Know, I Know Him So Well), Westlife with nearly every release being a cover (Uptown Girl, Mandy, You Raise Me Up to name a few) - there are probably quite a few examples too.

Releasing a cover was a quick, cheap and easy way for the label to cash in back then. I think adding rent-a-rappers/guest verses to pre-existing album tracks now is the equivalent of an act releasing a cover song back then.

But yeah... they had 3 covers throughout their chart life (4 if we have to include 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' :') lmao) it's hardly milking it.

It's easy to forget how common and acceptable it was to release covers of already-successful songs in the late 90s and early 00s. It was almost EXPECTED whereas these days it's basically taboo.

I can’t remember why I gave Ladies Night an 11. I certainly wouldn’t give it that high a score now. :o

I was re-listening to their Greatest Hits and still love so many of these songs.
