July 26, 20204 yr Midnight (just think, you can be morally superior!) or Viva La Vida would be cool. Or Lost! gonna grumble when you pick The Scientist but I'm weird
July 26, 20204 yr Tbh the way these results are going so far (particularly the success of Röyksopp) almost leads me to believe Midnight might not be as much of a risk as it appears? (But then again, this is a free choice round which is probably the worst time to take a risk). The Scientist would be fab ofc. x
July 29, 20204 yr Author Round 5: Album Track Free Choice So this will be a bit of a challenge, but I imagine most would be in the same boat, we just need to pick the right choice, something a little less obviously Coldplay. If you all could share some of your favourite album tracks, that would be really helpful. There is another round of this nature later on, so we can use any second choices there. Promo and Radio singles count (they have a lot of those) Some that I really like: (would really like to send this, it's so fun and upbeat and was a radio single so would count) (very risky, may not pay off but I do really like it and it's excellently politically charged) (Very catchy with some cool guitar work) (this was a promo single, it's very dreamy and reminiscent of their old work, but again would be a bit of a risk) Please do suggest others as well!
July 29, 20204 yr I think Major Minus is probably my favourite Coldplay album track so that'd definitely be my pick! A couple other ones that came to mind from the theme were Church (recency bias etc.) and White Shadows. Politik is great as well. Lovers In Japan is not the biggest favourite of mine but it would still no doubt be pretty high in my votes anyway let's face it nearly anything by Coldplay is going to be high up for me by default, I'd guess it's probably one of the most well-known songs that is eligible for this as well - so maybe could go for that and then Major Minus later on (or the other way round)? x
July 29, 20204 yr Author Oh yes, that would be an option for either round too! It's not a big favourite, but it could be nice to get some Head Full of Dreams representation. There are some great tracks off their current album, but I sense a lot would go down pretty badly.
July 30, 20204 yr Fun is great, I loooove Birds from AHFOD too it’s probably one of their more artistic tracks but it’s so good
July 30, 20204 yr My first thought was Don't Panic, sure thats their best non single ever I also love Spies but you can tell I'm more of an early Coldplay fan
July 30, 20204 yr Author Don't Panic's an odd one, it had a video and was included on a Now album, but according to Wikipedia, it only received a limited release. It's a tough one, but I guess it counts. Same with God Put a Smile Upon Your Face. (so many choices :drama:)
July 30, 20204 yr Don't Panic was never a UK single, it was only a single in some EU countries. Think it was a conscious decision to avoid over-exposure after Yellow and Trouble.
August 2, 20204 yr Author Round 6: First single of an era Self-explanatory, not counting promo/radio singles, our options: Shiver (Parachutes) In My Place (A Rush of Blood to the Head) Speed of Sound (X&Y) Violet Hill (Viva la Vida...) Every Teardrop is a Waterfall (Mylo Xyloto) Magic (Ghost Stories) Adventure of a Lifetime (A Head Full of Dreams) Orphans (Everyday Life) Tough one, they always do seem to reserve their mid to good-tier songs for first release rather than the mighty classics. I think my favourites are Violet Hill, Teardrop... and Adventure..., the latter two are quite fun and upbeat and the former is something a bit different from them. I do like In My Place too and would be happy with it, but it's never been a huge favourite. Thoughts? (will likely just go with a majority for this one)
August 2, 20204 yr 'Violet Hill' and 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' are 2 of my favourite Coldplay songs!
August 2, 20204 yr Oh I love 'Violet Hill', and Teardrop has some real charm to it too, very memorable lyrics on both. Speed Of Sound's not bad either but I'd say one of the former two.
August 2, 20204 yr the best out of those is In My Place, by miles and miles and miles but at the same time I can see it's not really Buzzjack-friendly :D Violet Hill or Magic could be cool I hate Every Teardrop with all my guts, thinks it's the worst song ever, a total -1 of a song, so anything but that :D
August 6, 20204 yr Author Round 7: Non top 40, up-tempo Can be an album track or a low-performing single. I guess we could do Major Minus as promised, but was also thinking Hurts Like Heaven, that's one of my favourite smaller hits from them and was released as a single but missed the top 100 so should be OK here. any other thoughts welcome xo
August 6, 20204 yr both are good, I prefer Major Minus but maybe Hurts like Heaven is more buzzjack-friendly as it doesn't have those guitars upfront unlike Major Minus
August 8, 20204 yr Author Round 8: Last Single of an Era Coldplay tend to absolutely rinse their albums dry for little reason as the last singles are almost always flops. I've only counted what wikipedia says is the last full single, so promo radio ones aren't counted (this includes Don't Panic and God Put a Smile Upon Your Face) Trouble (Parachutes) Clocks (A Rush of Blood to the Head) Talk (X&Y) Strawberry Swing (Viva la Vida) Hurts Like Heaven (Mylo Xyloto) Ink (Ghost Stories) Everglow (A Head Full of Dreams) Champion of the World (Everyday Life) Between Clocks and Talk for me, much as I love the former and it seems the more obvious choice, I do recall Talk having quite a small fanbase on here and I haven't sent anything from X&Y yet.
