The issue with Radio 2 is that they have an older audience and as a result their listeners barely do downloads, much less streaming. However, it can do wonders for album sales - just ask Rick Astley - 50 ended up selling platinum despite the lead single charting at #127.

Yeah I dont remember the album itself being available on the stands. The advert for it did appear on the screens before the show though

It was only at the 3 Wembley gigs it was sold. All 3 formats iirc tape, CD and vinyl.

B list could mean approx 20 plays if it lasts a few weeks

The 150th most played song on radio last year was player 36,000 times.

Blinding Lights was played 307386 times!

Just to put things into perspective.

WHY can’t that be Mel?!?!?

Play count is meaningless. Total audience is what counts, radio 2 regularly has millions listening at one time, 5 plays on radio 2 can reach more people than thousands of plays of random stations.

Play count is meaningless what a load of nonsense. The more a song is played to those millions of listeners the more it is going to reach, so of course play count it essential.

So if a song is played 100 times to a total of 1m people total compared to a song that's played 5 times to 17m people total you think the former having more plays is more important?

That is clearly not the case with blinding lights now is it? And the songs not played on radio 2 are much more likely to be played across a range of stations as they go with what is popular so they are getting a wider range and a lot more listeners.

Also by your logic a song played 100 times to 1 million people (taking into account they would be different since nobody spends the whole day listening to a radio) gets 100 million listeners whilst 17 million 5 times get 85 million so yep definitely benefits having 100 plays.

I think you need to re-read my post, 1m people TOTAL and 17m people TOTAL. If you weren't so he'll bent on trying to one up me you'd actually be reasonable and see the point I was making.

If airplay charts were determined on plays not total listeners then Mel C would never get anywhere near the chart. It's done on total listeners which shows how valuable those radio 2 plays are as being B list or A list on their can get Melanie C very high up on the airplay chart despite so few plays.

As I said reach and listeners are much more important than plays.

I asked on Spice Circle to double check this as I started to think if I'd dreamt it. My happy place definitely was on the merch stands at Wembley, the cd, cassette and vinyl a couple of people even said they purchased vinyls or cassettes.

Melanie C absolutely should do the same if they tour end of this year or next. Any solo stock she should get on the merch table a sale is a sale even if it's not counted towards the charts. Those LP books would probably sell better if people could see them in person.

If the play count is huge it is obvious they are played on all the huge stations. We have all grown to like songs because radio non stop has them on the air, which then leads to us purchasing them / streaming them.

You are being argumentative in many threads, it is tiresome and childish.

Time for some price reductions, Melanie...

I noticed all BMG albums were on sale this last week not just Emma, even Steps album was half price. I agree Melanie C should be every format half price on her store and itunes while Into You is getting some airplay.

I'm putting my point across. Blame it on me was only played basically on Radio 2, managed top 20 in the airplay charts and hung around on itunes for ages. It was basically down to 15 to 20 plays on radio 2 only. Again the amount of audience a station gets, thus the amount of listeners a song gets is the most important.

The OCC put a thing on fb to celebrate Melanie C's birthday, it just lead to her solo discography but on the post they put When you're gone is at 901k sales now.

The last figure we had was 865,209 sales as of 8th May 2020, so it's sold more than 35,000 copies in 8 months! :o

It is a radio staple. Such a universal song.

It's probably the most played solo track on UK radio at least. I never really hear any other songs to be honest. Maybe NBTSA or WTYSL but it's rare.

Wow that is impressive
