Crazy to think the total for 'When You're Gone' is higher than Stop, WDYTYA, Too Much and Viva Forever

It seems that When You're Gone has constantly been ahead of Viva Forever since the end of the 90s (at the end of the decade Viva Forever had sold 625,000, but When You're Gone was on 635,000). Though at that point, When You're Gone was 20k behind Too Much and 25k behind Mama/Who Do You Think You Are. When You're Gone is massively ahead of them all now, for instance my current estimate for Viva Forever is 784,500 - making it 116,500 behind When You're Gone.

At the end of the 90s Stop had sold 334k supposedly, so it was a very significant 301,000 behind. Even now, despite Stop's increased success in the streaming era, I estimate that it would currently be about 274,000 behind When You're Gone (my estimate for Stop is 627,000). I don't think we're likely to see Stop overtake When You're Gone for a very long time, but it seems like it's destined to slowly but surely close the gap. At the rate they're selling at, Stop would overtake in January 2040(!), at which point both songs would be on 1,917,000(!!), but that's only theoretical... so much could change in the next 20 years.

Anyway, great to see When You're Gone over 900k! It's on course to pass 1 million in November 2022 :cheer:

That really is unfair and doesnt sit well with me  Those songs are amazing and deserve better. Im glad WYG is doing well but it's a shit song, specially compared to those classics :(

WYG is adored !! I bet at the time of recording no one thought it would be the hit / have the legs that it has.

When You're Gone isn't a top favourite Melanie C track for me, but it's clearly a very well crafted song - hooks throughout, it's very memorable. Undeniably a classic and radio staple!
Yeah but it's still crap, specially compared to Viva Forever, Stop and Too Much :teresa:
And Who Do You Think You Are. And Holler, and even Let Love Lead The Way. The only Spice single that WYG betters is Headlines.
The thing that's always annoyed me about WYG is Mel is basically Bryan's backing singer. I think they should have split the verses.

I wouldn't agree with her sounding like a backing singer, because they both sound very prominent on the song, singing in unison.

WYG is not a fav of mine although i love it just because its overplayed and on every tour setlist.

Viva Forever is almost forgotten about by the general public for such a gorgeous song and so well regarded by spice fans.

Bonus Welsh singles chart information: In and Out of Love was #84 on 9th October 2020 and Northern Star (single) was #98 on 11th December 2020.

The most recent download Top 200s I've seen are 1st January, up to that point Into You hasn't made it into that chart.

Such true and stunning chart facts x

Random: Northern Star (single) was #90 in Scotland on 22nd January

Scotland always coming through with the TASTE!

Obviously, a much better nation that the UK itself, hence why they deserve and should go independent 😋

I sincerely hope that never happens.
