The vocals on 911 were pretty bad but it's tough one to sing live without sounding weird. The transition!

I loved her vocals on 911, the live version gave life to the song, and this is one of the worst songs on the record for me.

What an AMAZING night for Gaga

The performance was spot-on, loved the setting in her bedroom (and the ROM rainboots) and just all the different moods, settings and outfits. And YES at our social justice queen for wearing a face mask as well.

Also brilliant, and deserved, to see her getting so many awards. And all the looks were 10/10.

What a joke, there's no way The Weeknd got more votes than Gaga + Ariana fans, no way, they certainly did that for social awareness purposes.

What kind of rude (and frankly racist) comment is that "for social awereness purposes"?? The Weeknd's song is WAY bigger than Rain On Me, so not surprised it got more votes. And honestly, after the night she has had, I don't think we as fans have anything to complain.

Lady Gaga's masks were the real winner of the MTV VMAs

By Sandra Gonzalez, CNN

Lady Gaga asked viewers to mask up while speaking at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, and she led by example.

During her multiple appearances during the show, Gaga displayed an impressive collection of masks, but it's fair to assume she didn't pick these up at GAP or have them mailed to her by her auntie who can sew.

These masks were 100% what one would expect from Gaga, the woman who once made charcuterie into a fashion statement.

Below, we rank Gaga's wonderfully OMG PPE -- because why not?

4. The artist of the year/TRICON award mask

Possibly sponsored by Reynolds Wrap, this mask was definitely the most accessible of Gaga's facial coverings. It's glam without being too much, like something you'd wear to a particularly fabulous trip to CVS. Gaga must have had particular affection for this one, as she wore it twice on Sunday's broadcast -- once while accepting artist of the year and again to accept her TRICON award.

3. The best collaboration mask

This whole look seemed like something crafted by the team at FOX's "The Masked Singer" -- in the best way. It was fabulously fowl, without being foul. The mask itself looked like a Project Runway contestant would put together if the challenge was to craft only using materials from Home Depot. They'd win, by the way.

2. The "Rain On Me" performance mask

Ironically, the mask Gaga wore during her performance is not something you'd probably want to be rocking if you were actually being rained on. For her electric duet with Ariana Grande, Gaga sported a mask with an electronic edge that seemed to respond to the notes she was belting. Perhaps it was her way of proving she was actually singing, which seems like the kind of thought only an artist like Gaga would have. If ever replicated by Best Buy, this mask would sell out faster than you could say "brain piano."

1. The song of the year mask

Finally, proof Lady Gaga beat us all to the next stage of evolution: She has horns. With her new tusks, she will spear social injustice and the patriarchy. Hail our horned queen, the one celebrity who always remembers that the VMAs are all about fun and individuality.

How did ROM lose video of the year? What a joke, there's no way The Weeknd got more votes than Gaga + Ariana fans, no way, they certainly did that for social awareness purposes.

Because there’s NO way a black artist can win something over two white women fair and square.

I’m sure some monsters could argue that Gaga could’ve done a lot more to win every single award. Like promote Chromatica 24/7 or sell her soul to the devil. You know, basic stuff fans expect from their favourite pop hoes.

It was EVERYTHING and I truly didn't want it to end. She outperformed everybody and it wasn't even close.

Looks like '911' is the next single :o I didn't see that one coming at all!

"If the 2020 VMAs were built for one artist, it’s Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — who not only came in with nine nominations and has already won multiple awards, but also just delivered the performance of the night. Because, well, who better than Lady Gaga to see pandemic restrictions and turn them into an opportunity? They don’t call her an MTV Tricon for nothing (wait, do they call her that?). Gaga performed a medley of songs off her wonderfully stupid dance-pop album Chromatica, including “911,” “Rain on Me,” and “Stupid Love.” It was her first Video Music Awards performance since 2013, and instantly one for the books."

The critical acclaim :cheeseblock:

Yes true! If she hadn't organised that Covid performance event, thought about her own health or spoken out about BLM, so would have had more time to promote Chromatica and would have won another award. Which is obviously WAY more important. Who cares about human lives and rights when you could have some more streams, sales and awards right?

I can't stop watching it

'911' sounds SO much better live than I thought it would :o And I really liked the choreo! ROM was obviously brilliant, and I adored vintage Gaga stripping down SL before pretty much ending it with a big dance party.

Just f'n brilliant and my (very high) expectations were surpassed. AND THOSE AWARDS  Her acceptance speech for the Tricon award was so inspiring.

As for The Weeknd, I'm a bit baffled. The ROM video was very clearly the best video out of the bunch  I'd actually have been fine with him winning Song of the Year because 'Blinding Lights' is phenomenal, but he wasn't nominated for that

OMFG what a performance! 911 sounded so amazing live to the point where I’d be happy with it being the next single now. She looked amazing during the performance and during each of her acceptance speeches

Everything about the night was absolutely perfect and it has really brought the Chromatica era to life.

If this is what she gives for a 10 minute performance I can’t even begin to imagine what the tour will be like

Just watched the performance and I AM BLOWN AWAY. I knew it was going to be a spectacle but I didn't really anticipate the changing set designs, costuming etc.

911 was FANTASTIC and totally unexpected and inspired, Rain On Me was a moment after moment, and i loved the recreation of the video and then my highlight... Stupid Love!? The piano section was very vintage Gaga, MASKUP and then the explosive finale.

All-in-all I think I think this will go down as the 2nd best VMAs performance she's done and will rank very highly for me in terms of overall live performances.

Not seen the speeches or anything else yet, still on such a high!

i thought the performance was just gift after gift. the only thing i would have changed is the running order - to give stupid love the end slot when it wasn’t nominated was a choice. to me, it would have flowed better had it kicked off with a bang with 911 (which went off!) then slowed it down to do her thing with the piano + then ramping it back up for stupid love full band to set the pace for rain on me to be the finale + the ‘event’ but it i guess they wanted ariana out a bit quicker.

vocals were on point (again the whistle register) but i definitely feel like they were live pre-records. they had plenty of time to record them masks off - there are points where gaga doesn’t have the mic anywhere near her mouth + the sound never falters.. but i mean, it didn’t affect the performance at all + i can’t even comprehend how they performed with them on to begin with.

i might be on a high but i think it’s my fave vma performance from her :o
