It's a first week on top for Paul Anka, I mean Doja Cat! It's her second chart-topper of 2020, and it's Paul's first-ever top 10, let alone chart-topper. He made my charts with (You're) Having My Baby in 1974, a record that doesn't work these days, but was nice enough at the time, so a patient wait of 46 years to to grab a number one, albeit with a 50's track he wrote as a teenager as the backbone of an improved (if naughty) re-write.

Highest new entry is Austrian electronic duo Klangkarussell and a great dance track Ghostkeeper in at 3, with a co-credit from Canadian GIVVEN, while Donna Summer gets a remix of a 1980 album track into the top 10, her first top 10 with a previously uncharted track since err 1989! Extends the top 10 run to 43 years though. The Killers make it 2 top 10's in 2020, Pet Shop Boys make it 2 top 40 this week, both tracks from 1993, and the best new song this week is Miley Cyrus in at 34 with the fab Midnight Sky. 12 years of chart entries, and 7 top 10's - none of them The Climb or Wrecking Ball. She's getting better as she gets older, after starting well, dipping a bit, and then getting interesting.

New at 55 it's Lola Lennox, not only a great name but the daughter of Annie, and sounding not unlike her mum, Miranda Lambert charts a second oldie in my chart that I'd missed when new, Tame Impala return with another track off the album for a 5th year of chart entries without getting an actual UK or US singles hit, such is the lack of variety in the charts. First Aid Kit also return 6 years on since Emmylou and My Silver Lining went top 10. The Flaming Lips are back! It's been 21 years since Race For The Prize hit my top 20, and 17 years since Yoshimi went top 10, and 14 years since they last charted (The Yeah Yeah Yeah song went top 10 in 2006), so it's lovely to have them back. Not content with number one, Doja Cat also sneaks in with Anne-Marie and a new goodie, two Joans return to the my chart (Armatrading with her awesome 1976 debut, and Baez with her uncharted goodie, Diamonds And Rust being only her second charting track - she debuted in 1971, so a bit of a 49-year-wait then! Weezer also return, from feeling like a 90's Buddy Holly in Happy Days through to finally getting a chart-topper in 2017 with Feels Like Summer - and then failing to follow-up till now!

Oh dear 'Lighter' has flopped in your chart. I quite like it despite the cheesy pitched up vocal. I'm sure you still agree its better than his cover of 'Flowers'.

Great chart :D

Hi Jordan! :hi: :)

I agree about Doja Cat, it's an inspired sample, contrasting as wholesome 50's as you get with a very naughty lyric :D I can only see it a single if they rewrote the lyrics so radio could play it, otherwise it'll be a mass of bleeps

The King Harvest original is worth digging out, it has an early 70's charm to it. Funnily enough it wasnt a hit in the UK and I didnt get to hear it until I was on holiday in Orlando in the 90's - 60's/early 70's radio was all the rage then, a bit like 90's is now :) About the same time Black Velvet was getting brand new airplay as a massive hit, probably!

Also agree about the Miley Cyrus track, it's already my fave solo track from her, so good!

Yes indeedy, Bluebird is in thanks to Liam's thread, so I'm glad you are charting it too, lovely record, she has a great way with words. I was amused to see one of her co-writers is a Dick. Not being rude, that's his name and his parents must have been a bit thoughtless calling him Luke. Luke Dick! Poor soul. At least they didn't call him Hugh or John Thomas :D

Cheers!

Hi Thorn/Flopiday :)

You know I havent heard Pixie Lott stuff in years and years, and I quite liked her when she came on the scene. Maybe that's having a subconscious effect on me :D

I hear all sorts of bits in the Miley track, which is brilliant, reminding me of stuff, and I can see the Self Control. Edge Of Seventeen touches in there. She's got a great voice too, full of character where many these days are a bit interchangeable.

It took me a while to warm to Lighter - I've bought it and I play it and enjoy it, but autotune pitching has become something of cliche these days, especially on rap tracks. Soon as I hear it I'm automatically going to hate it right off the bat just for being unoriginal and trend-chasing, and I have to be convinced through further listening that I don't hate it  Yes it's better than Flowers, and Cardi B I've never been a fan of, the appeal just goes over my head. Megan Stallion I've heard a grand total of once per hit track as I don't listen to Radio 1 anymore so unless she can grab me on one play I'm never going to hear it again. I only buy new tracks based on one play - "do I want to hear this again?" If so, I buy it and playlist it, and the only way to sneak through to me is through Radio 2 plays or TV spots or song competitions.

Cheers!

Dojo Cat & Paul Anka numero uno

Kylie and Matt Meason still Top 10.

Klangkarussell the highest new entry :yahoo: Donna Summer entering the Top 10 :yahoo:

Pet Shop Boys and Billie Eilish Top 20 :cheer:

Kygo/Tina Turner climbing and Faithless Top 30 :cheer:

The Vamps climbing and Miley Cyrus entering the Top 40

Is there a possibility that the Levitating (remix) will climb again ? :teresa:

Hi Sven :)

Thanks for liking all those great tracks :cheer:

I wouldn't hold your breath that the remix of Levitating will climb  I loved the original version, it's great to have Madonna and Missy on a remix which is good for dancing to (and I bought it too), but it's had a bit of a charmectomy as a result...

cheers! B-)

Fantastic chart as ever

Thanks AH! :)

Don't play the Doja Cat track in polite company is my advice

Good question asking if Hallucinogenics is your biggest BJSC track in my chart - I'm not sure TBH, it may well be! Tell you what I could always do a Chart Feature of all My 2010's number ones listed (not including oldies) and just ask everyone who's entered one of them to remind me who sent it. There's been quite a few!

Very annoying Madonna didn't get a credit, yes, I don't see why they can't credit all versions of a hit track (like I did)!

Miley Cyrus has also totally turned it round for me too, her big-selling period was a bit underwhelming for me too, and her sister Noah is also doing some great stuff, both of them increasingly interesting musically.

cheers!

John

Hi john! Ghostkeeper entering very very high in the chart, which is a good sign as I'm glad this song gets much-deserved attention!

Hi Uhsting :)

It is a fab track yes, I would love it to be a hit, but the law is only tracks under 3 minutes can be hits now. Leww certainly knows how to consistently pick fab dance tracks! :)
