Given the ever-decreasing impact of iTunes on the charts, thought it would be interesting to see how the iTunes #1s do officially:

More official #1s here than I thought actually! But barring the recent hits (which may well climb higher) most of the songs in here are either Top 10s or non-hits with not too much in-between.

It's kind of interesting just to look back at the list of iTunes #1s - funny to see how it keeps oscillating between genuinely big hits and flash in the pan political / charity / BTS songs :lol:

Definitely! Part of the reason I did this was to look back on all the flash-in-the-pan songs I forgot existed. I do remember the Scott Gilhooly one being at #1 as it felt like a completely random song to get there but there are some like the Skerryvore one and the two BTS songs I completely forgot existed :lol:

 

We seem to be in a period now where the two streaming behemoths aren't setting the iTunes chart alight so we could easily be getting some more 'random' songs at #1 in the weeks to come.

Yeh MOST big number ones still do well on iTunes especially if they’re ‘pop’
