  • Living without you is a masterpiece

  • Listening again to the album (and some b-sides) this morning, I find that the album has aged a bit better than I expected too. Not sure I will ever invest in this vinyl unless I can find it for cheap

I went out for RSD last Saturday and got my copy! It's still a shame it couldn't recreate the original album artwork. However my copy sounds good and the amount of bonus tracks does make it feel worthwhile.

Reason entered the UK physical albums chart at #99 this week. It's not Top 100 on sales or Top 40 in the vinyl chart (and it probably should go without saying that it's not in the official albums chart x). It's safe to say it's one of the more niche titles released for Record Store Day!

Did Northern Star RSD or A Girl Like Me chart at all in any chart?

A Girl Like Me - it reached #89 in both the Sales chart and the Physical chart (and oddly 2 weeks later, it charted at #34 in the "Record Store" chart) https://www.officialcharts.com/albums/emma-bunton-a-girl-like-me/

Northern Star - first release in 2022: #45 in Physical, #47 in Sales and #32 in the Vinyl chart // second release in 2023: #70 in Physical, #74 in Sales. https://www.officialcharts.com/albums/melanie-c-northern-star/

It stands to reason (no pun intended x) that Northern Star did a lot better than Reason has done, even with its second edition! I wonder if Reason had its original artwork whether it would have done slightly better, even if it was just a little bit higher up like A Girl Like Me?

It would be nice to know the sales but unfortunately I have no idea. Record Store Day releases take up a lot of the Sales and Physical charts, so it's fair to say that Reason just about making the Top 100 this week is more than likely with higher sales than it typically takes to chart!

I am not surprised.

Probably the casual buyers did not recognize the record from the cover.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised it made the chart, considering the lack of original artwork and absolutely no promo from Melanie. A Girl Like Me, which sold about 1.25 times what Reason did back in the day, only reached #89 — and that was with its original artwork, an attractive pink vinyl, a #1 hit single, and a heavy social media push from Emma. So really, Reason did the best it could, all things considered.

Fixed a typo :)

The fact that Mel didn't even post about it is so so bad...

These girls really have form when it comes to neglecting their own music, like some of them neglected to even post about Spiceworld25 or even acknowleging the Forever 20th anniversary vinyl... just a bit shocking that this time it came from Mel C herself about her own solo music...

It's a good release too, and it had 1500 copies printed, but there are still a lot available. Emma's A Girl Like Me had a similar run and it sold out quite quickly..

She posted a story on insta when the release was announced.

I’m having a friend make me a gatefold with the original art work. I was going to use the alt cover with the word reason but chose to keep it like the cd.

Emma's vinyl had a run of 1,100 copies, yet it remains available. It hasn’t sold out.

That was way back in February, and she hasn’t mentioned it since. Meanwhile, Chvrches - another band I follow - sent out an email about their RSD vinyl just a day before the event.

I never really understand why artists arent making more use of social media and email blasts when releasing as it can do nothing but help even if its only helps grab a handful of sales.

Who knows why... she's not a fan of the album maybe or how Virgin menaged the release...

^ she aint bothered to promote this as it is being released via virgin and they are still not on good terms!

If that's the reason, Mel C needs to grow the f*** up

assuming it is the reason!

Virgin did do her wrong and are making the money from this release so she ain’t bothered about it
