November 20, 20204 yr Author 7TH PLACE: X (Score 70/100) View this post on Instagram UK Peak: #4 sales: 470k+ Following an extremely challenging time in her personal life. Kylie comeback to what she did best in 2007. Back with a funky new look and hairstyle X her tenth album soon followed. The divisive lead single 2 Hearts opens the album. I actually love this track and always have. Such a daring out there lead single choice which I know doesn’t really have a huge fanbase on here but you have to give her praise for having the balls to put this out as a lead single! Like A Drug follows and is a quite electronic sounding. It’s current sounding for the time it was released. It’s got quite a good chorus and it’s definitely catchy enough in that sticks in your head. In My Arms follows and what a track it is! The Calvin production shines throughout and she worked with him before he become what he is today. A great track what worked so well as a single I can definitely see why she opted to give this the single treatment. It’s the first track on this album what feels Classic Kylie. The next track Speakerphone is an interesting one. I love the production of it. It goes the opposite to how I first thought it would have by the opening. It’s definitely a good track and it takes Kylie in a new direction. Sensitized is a very instant track for me. The first of the non singles that I think would’ve actually worked as a single to some degree. I like the tempo on this one. Heartbeat Rock. Wasn’t a great one for me. It wasn’t keen on the spoken half rap kinda opening it didn’t do much for me. Then the parts in the chorus where it feels like she’s talking in a cockney accent. Yeah this would be a skip on future listens. Thankfully the album takes a turn better as The One follows. This has always been a favourite of mine. It’s kinda melancholic but in a good way. She sounds gorgeous vocally on this and it’s one of those songs what’s simplistic in a sense but also really intricate. It’s one of the most underrated things she’s ever done. No More Rain again is a more mellow track what flows on well from The One. She sounds great on this and it’s definitely one of my favourites from this on first listen from what I haven’t heard before I really like this part of Kylie where she’s more vocal based and vulnerable. All I See really reminds me of another song. I can’t think yet what it is. I want to say One Step At A Time by Jordin Sparks that may be the production or similar structures. I think it’s a good song though. Stars is a more upbeat number. Not really cohesive in that it flows well from the previous track but it isn’t a bad song. It’s got shades of Impossible Princess era in places of this. I’m quite a fan of it but I don’t think it has a real place on this album. Wow. A track what was quite a big single. Not a single of hers I’m that keen on though. It is a big cheesy and not the most daring of tracks by her. I can see why it was given a single push and I can see why some of her stans like it but yeah she’s done better for me. Nu Di Ty is my least favourite on this. It’s just a bit awful tbh. Not really to my taste at all. Cosmic brings it back though. Perhaps her most mellow closer. This really shows off her vocals and finishes off the album on a good note. I love this kinda sound from Kylie take the more mellow parts from this and get a whole era of that and I’d be so happy. Ok so this is kinda inconsistent as a whole album. It starts off as one thing a more electro charged pop album then gets more mellow. I think I actually like the more mellow laid back tracks more though on those she sounds really good. I like the uptempo numbers as well and I think one good thing about this album is the production. Parts of the album are cohesive and others aren’t. As much as this doesn’t have much of a clear theme (like compared to Body Language which felt like a real body of work). I do really like a lot of these songs as individual songs and I do think it’s a strong collection of songs. It’s a strong album what plays to her strengths. There’s some risks on here and the mellow numbers beat the big pop electro numbers. I think a lot of this album may have been a real escape for her too and she definitely threw herself into the campaign. I don’t think it’s one of her worst but not one of her best either. What’s good is good. There’s nothing terrible on here though just a lack of theme / cohesiveness towards the end.
November 20, 20204 yr Author 6TH PLACE: RHYTHM OF LOVE (Score 73/100) View this post on Instagram UK Peak #9 Sales 260k+ Kylies third album and third in as many calendar years and her first 90’s albums opens with one of her most well known hits in Better The Devil You Know a great album opener. It’s also a bit of a departure from her first two albums sound it’s not so much bubblegum pop and more of a dance sound it still feels like Kylie. Next up we have Step Back In Time “I wanna FUNK” almost sounding explicit in its opening chants. It’s another catchy number and sonically flows on well from the opener. What Do I Have To Do is a song I wasn’t that familiar with despite it being a single and a UK top ten it is quite a classic on first listen. One I’ll definitely replay. Secrets is probably the most forgettable song so far not an overly strong track it’s not terrible but doesn’t really go anywhere or leave much of a lasting impression. Always Find The Time again is a bit meh. The background vocals are a bit grating and the production isn’t that great on it either. Then we get to The World Still Turns a drastic improvement on the two tracks before it, it’d quite a vocal moment for Kylie and the horn section too is very of its time but works in the song. I’m rather surprised this wasn’t pushed as a single in its own right tbh it’s quite Lisa Stansfield esque. I’m a real of this one! A definite one I’d go back to on its own. We then get to Shocked which is one of my favourite 90’s singles by her. It was quite a bold different single choice for someone like Kylie at the time and it’s a definite bop now and it doesn’t actually sound too old either tbh not current but not ancient sounding either. Who could forget the mix what featured Jazzy P who went onto become one of the most hideous housemates in Big Brother. One Boy Girl again is quite a strong track it’s produced well and she sounds pretty good on it too. It does kinda lose it in the middle of the song with the spoken conversation kinda part but it is quite charming in a sense too. Things Can Only Get Better again follows on and is quite a strong track. I like the production on this throughout and the chorus is definitely strong on this too as well it’s rather catchy. I could’ve seen this working as a single. Count The Days again flows well from the previous track and continues the cohesive nature of the album. It’s not a highlight for me but it isn’t at all bad just that some of the others were more instant. Again, I like the production on this. The closing track from this album which also happens to be the title track is almost Madonna esque in a way with Like A Prayer being the Madonna era smashing the time this was released i can definitely hear her influence on this track. A good album closer. The production again on this is a real highlight especially the opening to it. After two huge #1 albums, this peaking at #9 does feel a bit like an underperformance although I imagine it being a Q4 release may make it seem like it did worse than it really did. I can quite see how with the GP and charts wise it didn’t quite have the chart performance her first albums did as this is a departure from that sound but ultimately this was the beginning of Kylie trying to reinvent herself and for that I do give her credit. Bubblegum Kylie was no more and we now have a more mature sound and image! This was also her best vocal performance on an album at this point in her career so I give her credit for that. I’d also say this is her most cohesive album released at this point in her career too and the first time I’d really felt like she’d made a whole album rather than just a singles collection.
November 20, 20204 yr Author So this now means that my top 5 albums (in release order not my actual order... are!) KYLIE MINOGUE IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS LIGHT YEARS FEVER DISCO I’ll reveal what’s just missed out on my top 3 tomorrow.
November 20, 20204 yr Wow, I'm surprised at the Top 5 placement of KM94. I guess you really like her belting! I would've had it higher on my ranking if I actually loved any of the album tracks. Both X and KMO are similar in my mental categorizing, in that they're not cohesive, but they contain some of my absolute favourite BOPS. For a while, my feelings about X kept changing. By the time KMO was released, I had started letting go of cohesiveness as a ranking criterion (I basically never listen to albums in their running order, instead on shuffle or cherry-picked into playlists). So when I look at an album less by the tracklist order, and more as an overall era that produced these tracks, I really love X and KMO for giving me many of my Kylie classic tunes. LOL I don't really like Wow either, though it's actually crossed over and impacted the general public. It's become a signature "Kylie brand" song, like All the Lovers. Rhythm of Love is a stone-cold classic. And The World Still Turns is also one of my fave Kylie album tracks! I don't think the album is in my Top 5, but that's mainly because I wasn't a Kylie fan when ROL was released. Edited November 20, 20204 yr by dabblie
November 20, 20204 yr All I See really reminds me of another song. I can’t think yet what it is. I want to say One Step A Time by Jordin Sparks that may be the production or similar structures. I think it’s a good song though. Yes, I've always said this! You can really tell they were made by the same producer as they're near-identical. X would have been a better album/more cohesive had she used some of the leftover tracks instead.
November 20, 20204 yr Author It definitely was One Step At A Time it reminded me of I had a listen again when I seen that comment I made highlighted and the songs are so similar! I’ve also just noticed that of my top 5 albums by her four of them were all released in a row   I guess I really loved that mid 90’s early 00’s era from her.
November 20, 20204 yr "X" - this is what I like to call Kylie's jukebox album as there's so much different styles & sounds on here Electro Pop/Pop Rock/Dance/R&B/ & of course pure Pop, which kinda makes this album all over the place & probably should have just stuck with the Electropop & Dance sounds as they seem to be the most prominent & best tracks on here. The highlights are 'Like A Drug' simply sublime with some amazing beats (SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SINGLE), 'in My Arms' - full of glorious energy & just explodes with some superb synths. 'Speakerphone' - Has a really cool & fresh stomping sound, (this would have been my choice for the lead USA single). 'Sensitized' - a really groovy dance tune full of passion. 'The One' - a stunning epic that commands your attention & SHOULD have been the lead single. 'No More Rain' - Doesn't really fit with the rest of these, but still a shimmering classy number. 'Stars' has a nice chilled vibe to it. Then of course 'Wow' which is a hell of a lot of fun & just incredibly catchy. Other tracks such as '2 Hearts' - A fun little quirky moment that didn't really work as the lead single & would have been better suited as a b-side. 'Heart-Beat Rock' - this falls kinda flat for me & one of the weakest tracks on here for sure. 'All I See' - a really nice number, very smooth & floats along quite well. But this had no business being on the album especially over what was left off or being the lead US single, 'Nu-Di-Ty' - Awful & should have been scrapped entirely, then 'Cosmic' just very MEH!. How in the hell did tracks like 'Rippin' Up The Disco', 'Cherry Bomb', 'Magnetic Electric' & 'Do It Again' got left off as if these were included instead of some of the weaker moments, then this album could have been a far better body of work & a lot more consistent.
November 20, 20204 yr "Rhythm of Love" - Definitely Kylie's best PWL album which marked a huge change in her direction & image that felt like a natural progression with Kylie stepping into womanhood & If there has been one album that defines Kylie’s career more than any other, then its this with production that's more dynamic & refined. The 4 singles are just magnificent with each showing growth in her direction. 'Better The Devil You Know' - Probably Kylie's greatest single & a fantastic entrance to her newer sound with such confidence in Kylie's stronger vocals. 'Step Back In Time' - A fun joyous tribute to the 70's pop/funk that yet adds a thumping 90's dance beat to it. 'What Do I Have To Do' - This euphoric dance anthem is another firm Kylie classic & of course rounding things out with the brilliant 'Shocked' which really elevates not only this run of singles, but the album itself. Other brilliant stand-outs in my opinion are the fun-poppy 'Secrets' - which is very catchy that probably feels the most like her first 2 albums, yet lyrically fits in with the theme of 'ROL'. 'Always Find The Time' - With some very early 90's dance sounds, & yet very fun. 'The World Still Turns' - A very tender grown up number with an awesome saxophone middle 8 section. 'Things Can Only Get Better' - This could have been a firm contender for a possible 5th single with some cool Electric guitars sprayed throughout its stellar production. Then finally the title track 'Rhythm of Love' A slice of funky 90's dance/pop that marks a great ending to the album. 'One Boy Girl' - This isn't quite as strong as the other tracks that's I've mentioned, yet its still a really fun bop with some decent New Jack Swing sounds thrown in there. My least fave moment on here is ''Count The Days' - which is probably the most forgettable track on here & doesn't stand out. However on the whole this album is just a really solid body of work.
November 20, 20204 yr Rhythm of Love was my fave Kylie albums for many many years until Light Years came along, Light Years then led me to really enjoying enjoy yourself much more and all of a sudden rhythm of love fell to number 3 for me but it remains a great album, along with the singles i really like a couple of the album tracks such as Things can only get better and Always find the time. Number 9 for the album is and was disappointing after such huge number 1s back to back and singles were warmly welcomed but her popularity was in decline. X and its a good point not to critic it on been non cohesive but i find it difficult as purely that reason that brings it down in my rankings, when its good its brilliant and then the other part is borderline boring,x is always the Kylie album i think could have been so much more.
November 20, 20204 yr Rhythm Of Love is definitely her best album from PWL! The only one that’s listenable all the way through. Kylie Minogue is another album by her I like so I’m glad that’s still in. Her albums I’m less keen on are her first two, Let’s Get To It and Kiss Me Once. I think everything else is passable. Body Language I think is pretty good though I’d rank that higher.
November 21, 20204 yr It is my opinion Kylie's first 3 albums are all equally 95% listenable the whole way through.
November 21, 20204 yr Author I found Rhythm Of Love one of my biggest surprises on here as I done this rate. It’s so strong as a whole album leagues ahead of what she’d done prior to this album at that point in her career. A shame she followed it up with what I’d say is her very worst album  from 1994 she really begun to make real records though and she begun to thrive creatively I’d say after she left PWL. It was kinda like she was doing all the things she couldn’t do with them but I’m glad she really experimented with different sounds. I didn’t realise Kylie was so layered and versatile!
November 21, 20204 yr Author FIFTH PLACE - LIGHT YEARS (Score 77/100) View this post on Instagram UK Peak: #2 UK Sales 490k+ (so close to 500k) Kylies 2000 album Light Years not only marked a comeback but marked the first time Kylie had become a real force in the industry in almost a decade. It was her highest peaking and selling studio album since 1989 and was also the album of hers to spend the most weeks on the chart in that time frame too so some impressive accolades there. Opening track Password is the most typical Kylie track I’ve heard from her in a long while. It’s an upbeat pop number where she’s claiming we need to know her password if we need to stand a chance with her. She also mentions a new world in the song which I guess is kinda reminiscent of how she felt at the time. Sonically this is already so far away from the sound of Kylie Minogue the album and Impossible Princess. It’s pure pop / dance Kylie back yet in a different sense to how she was in the 80’s. A strong opening. Next up is the track what you could say partially brought back Kylies mainstream career. We all know Spinning Around those gold hot pants are pretty much iconic. It’s a song what still sounds great now and a perfect choice of lead single. On A Night Like This follows on and again a great single choice. This still is one of my favourite things she’s ever done. So Now Goodbye is pretty much cheese on toast all the way through but also sounds very dated even though it’s on a 2000 album it’s definitely the weakest track so far. Thankfully Disco down is better. It’s got a great production and doesn’t sound as dated. Lyrically it’s a bit not the best but it’s still strong within the context of the album. Loveboat.. ok my first thoughts on this were wtf is this! It sounds like debut era Kylie. It’s another cheesy track with an awful production. The ba ba ba ba ba parts really are sticking in my head but this is really awful! Koocachoo again isn’t really great. It’s an album track at best but a definite skip moment for me if I wear to hear this album again. Your Disco Needs You brings things back! It’s camp, OTT, even theatrical. A bit Steps like tbh but it does kinda snap for me ngl. I can so picture Steps singing this! Please Stay. I was thinking before hearing this i don’t recognise this despite it being a single. It turns out I actually do! I recognised the intro straight away. It’s a definite highlight of the album. Sounds like something you’d hear on holiday. A late summer smash. Bittersweet Goodbye is her best vocal moment on here so far. I think it’s a pretty strong track actually. Kinda out of place on the album in terms of where it is in the track listing I think it might’ve worked more as an album closer but I can’t fault it. It’s dreamy and soothing and after heavy in your face bangers it’s a nice change of pace. Butterfly is a bop! The instrumental almost reminds me of Macarena but I can almost hear Madonna on this (like 80’s pre Like A Prayer Madonna) I don’t know what’s making me think that. I think this is a real highlight actually amongst the non singles on this. I can see how it has a bit of a reputation as a fan favourite. Under The Influence Of Love again is a strong track. This album is winning me over again after some patchy moments. I’m under the influence of love and there ain’t no doubt about it. Lyrically this could’ve fitted on one of her first two albums but the production is very late 90s / early 00’s. It’s like a throwback to early Kylie but for a modern audience. I’m So high, is an ok track. Not a real highlight but not one what I have any negative thoughts over. Kids, one of her most famous duets follows and I forgot how much I love this! I think this is one of her best for me and I definitely think this sounds in context of the album too. Finally, the title track concludes things here and rounds off an album what is largely strong despite a few hiccups. The countdown on this track however is kinda confusing. Album closer more love album opener. This is a great track but doesn’t fit as a closer. It also kinda sounds similar to Hallucinate by Dua! In general, this is a lot more patchy than Kylie Minogue and Impossible Princess as a whole body of work despite the highs on this being amongst the best of her career. It’s a pop lovers dream. If you want pure pop music this is an album for you. Yes, it’s easy to see how it was a commercial success and instrumental to her comeback into the mainstream market but it’s a lot less exciting for me as a whole album, there’s definite filler and less of a FU approach to this too, this is like a deliberate move to wanting commercial success. The main highlights are the singles for me. Those we’re definitely well picked! But I think this is a bit too long for me there’s a few tracks here what we could’ve done without. I’d also say that it’s not as cohesive as her last two albums (or even Rhythm Of Love). Some strange track listing choices here. A strong album though definitely not amongst her weakest.
November 21, 20204 yr Author and JUST missing out on a Top 3 placing we have...... FOURTH PLACE - KYLIE MINOGUE (1994) (Score 83/100) View this post on Instagram UK Peak: #4 UK sales 120k+ After ending her professional relationship with Pete Waterman’s entertainment group there would be a substantial gap between Kylie eras for the first time in her career. After releasing an album for four consecutive years it would be three years for a follow up to Let’s Get To It. Released in 1994, the albums opening track Confide In Me really marked a huge change for Kylie both sonically and visually. The track today still sounds so fresh the instrumental is stunning, her vocals at that point had never sounded better and the song itself too is just so special it’s one of my favourite things she’s ever done it’s hard to believe this is the same artist who sang I Should Be So Lucky! She’d never ever have released something like this under Pete Waterman so I think her relationship with his group ended at the right time. This marked the first real time on my listens of her eras that I begun to see Kylie as an artist and not just a singer. Surrender again is a strong track. Sultry vocals a slick production. I can’t ever really recall ever hearing this before but it’s really strong! It’s almost a bit Jazz esque but it suits her vocals so well and you can definitely feel she was strongly involved within the making of this era already it all feels like she was definitely more in charge here. If I Was Your Lover again is another strong track! I like the production on this and I think potentially this could’ve done quite well as a single. I can definitely picture a sultry dance routine to this track with a video to accompany it. It’s almost reminiscent of something I could’ve imagined a 90’s / 00’s R&B girl group releasing. Not Kylie esque but that’s in no way a negative. I’m also usually not keen on spoken vocals but in the context of this song the spoken parts actually work and add to the track! Where Is The Feeling follows. The intro does sound familiar to this and it sounds like something you’d hear in an airport duty free lounge. This weirdly isn’t quite a strong as the two tracks it followed so I’m quite shocked to hear it was chosen as a single. It’s still a strong track though. Put Yourself In My Place is the albums first moment what feels a bit like a ballad. It’s a strong track and I can see why it was chosen to be a single again, her vocal performance on this is amongst the highlights of her career so far. This is definitely the strongest ballad she’s done so far in her career too it definitely shows growth and maturity from her earlier work. A shame it just missed out on the top 10 here in the UK! Dangerous Game follows and is another sultry moment. I like the almost minimisation on the production on this track as it really allows her voice to shine through. Automatic Love is a sultry esque moment but again I keep saying this but her voice sounds so good on this! I’ve noticed that this style of music and the way this has been produced just fits her voice so well. This track sounds perfect for like background music in a fancy restaurant it’s just got a real relaxing kinda vibe to It. Where Has The Love Gone the longest track on the album follows with an almost house / ministry of sound chilled vibe to it. A shorter / radio edit of this so could have worked on UK radio. It sounds like a real smash and one that got away for sure! Who is that backing / male vocalist on this too they aren’t showing on Apple Music but they sound so good! I love this track despite its length it’s a great chilled number 90’s dance in the best way. Falling which was written by the Pet Shop Boys follows and flows on well nicely from Where Has The Love Gone. Again, the track is a nice chilled number what incorporates 90’s trance / dance music. This is perhaps a tad repetitive lyrically but the production is strong. And the sultry esque vocals throughout are great but it’s not one of the albums highlights for me great in context of the whole album but not one I’d rush back to hear as a track on its own. The final track on this album Time Will Pass You By concludes a very strong album! Produced by M People (who at the time were either a big name or a rising name) the track is a message to live in the moment and to do things whilst you have the chance / time too. It’s got quite a good feel good element to it and brings back the albums pace after two more chilled tracks this ends the album in a more upbeat pop way. So in general. I am very impressed with this album I even checked out the remixes what are on the deluxe edition to this and again those are rather strong too. It’s by far the best album she had released up to this point in her career I can hear her involvement in this and her voice is also sounding better as well. Im a bit salty at the way this performed commercially it’s definitely a slept on era of Kylies but this is definitely one I will return too as a whole piece. A real triumph and I don’t think it sounds that dated either! I’m also quite a fan of the fact that the tracks on this album are longer in length compared to her earlier work this really adds to the tracks allowing you to get drawn in and feel the flourishes to the production. Maybe this could be why commercially it didn’t do incredibly well as the songs being long may have meant radios could have been reluctant to play them even though radio edits exist. Another strong point this album has is the cohesive nature to it everything flows so well from one track to the next and it’s just such a step up from her previous work!
November 21, 20204 yr It's quite funny how Spotify have put 'Password' as track 1 on Light Years but it isn't actually a part of the album.
November 21, 20204 yr Author Password was on Apple Music as track one too that’s where I heard them all  it’s also on the iTunes version too! Crazy I didn’t realise that though when I listened to the album
November 21, 20204 yr Glad you are an under the influence fan even though you ranked light years fifth ;) as much as i love light years i do understand why some people rank it lower, it does have a couple of filler tracks but for the songs that are good they are just great, i really cant imagine Kylies career without light years, it just did so much for her. KM94 i like more now than i ever did but the album never fully hits all the spots for me, vocally kylie is great on the album but overall its just missing something. Its another important album in her career as it was all change for Kylie at this time but i dont think the campaign aswell as it could have been and i think Kylie messed up doing a film big time in the middle of promo.
November 22, 20204 yr "Light Years" - One of Kylie's best (if not the greatest) albums of her career & perhaps one of the greatest comebacks in music history. Many thought Kylie was done after the end of her DeCon contract & plus her Indie sound while brave, wasn't fully embraced by fans or the general public leading to a few dark years in Kylie's career of declining sales. But thankfully she went back to the Pop sound with an updated twist to fit the new decade & what did we get a POP MASTERPIECE. The highlights on here are countless with of course 'Spinning Around' - that CLASSIC! Kylie lead single that made her presence know again. 'On A Night Like This' - Another brilliant tune that's probably stronger than the lead with brilliant breathy vocals set against a harder dance/pop sound (another firm classic). 'Disco Down' - Just amazing with its instant thumping beat & fantastic chorus. ''Your Disco Needs You' - An Iconic classic that's epic throughout. Is it criminal for an album to have this many classics? 'Please Stay' - A shimmering little pop number with some Latin tones that really gives this a lift. 'Bittersweet Goodbye' - I agree with jlj this probably should have been the closer, but nonetheless this offers a nice change of pace, slowing things down with this beautiful yet emotional number. 'Butterfly' - ramps things back up to an almighty 11, this high octane electro-dance number is definitely a firm standout. 'Under The Influence of Love' - Very catchy & bounces along quite nicely. Then there's 'Light Years' - A brilliant closer that could have worked as the album opener with hints of Donna Summer throughout that makes for an all round glorious number. Other tracks such as 'So Now Goodbye' - A fun upbeat Disco number that's perfectly placed on the album, 'Loveboat' - A very Camp yet fun number which is jusy fine. 'Koocachoo' - Not something I really go back to, not overly terrible, but does pale in comparsion. 'I'm So High' - Another track that doesn't do much for me, but this does have a nice laidback vibe to it. 'Kids' , This seems to be nobody's favourite but I don't mind it on the album, a glorious show-stopping number. Then finally 'Password' (this wasn't on my version of the album), a fun funky little pop number that I wouldn't call a glaring omission from this album, I don't mind it being included, not bothered either way. Talk about 'KM'94 later.... Edited November 22, 20204 yr by Nina West
November 22, 20204 yr Author THIRD PLACE: DISCO (Score 85/100) View this post on Instagram UK Peak #1 UK Sales: CERTIFIED SILVER. (60k+ sales). Opening with Magic. DISCO starts off in the right direction. It’s a definite strong opening track and it’s very classic Kylie whilst also bringing something new to the table. I’m more familiar with this song now and it’s held up and improved the more I’ve heard it. I quite like the production on it and vocally I think it’s a hit. Miss A Thing follows and it almost seamlessly follows on from Magic. This was a pretty instant one on first listen. Production wise It is kinda similar to Magic though mainly in the chorus. Real Groove has a strong chorus! I like the slight switch in production and it’s pretty solid throughout. I love the edit on the vocals around half way through too (usually I kinda dislike the Cher like edit) but in this instance it does add to the song. Monday Blues is by no means bad but the least impressionable song on the album for me at this point. It’s nice enough though. Supernova is a total bop. It’s camp 70s like and a real moment on the album. The synth like vocals are back too. It’s got a strong chorus though and would go off on a live performance. Parts of the production sound a bit like Dua Break My Heart. But this is a total standout. Say Something wow! I love it and have from listen one but in context of the album I love it even more. It’s a beautiful simple track but done so well. I just love the meaning of it. A perfect choice for lead. Last Chance isn’t one of the more instant tracks for me. I think I may need to have repeated listens on this one. I think it’s on the cusp of cheese. It’s definitely not bad though. I like the production towards the middle 8 / later half of the song. It’s reminiscent of Light Years era. I Love It. Is a bop. It’s a track what just screams DISCO. It does help I went into this album already knowing this as it was a track we heard pre release. But it’s very strong. I can’t wait for a live performance of this. I love the production. Where Does The DJ GO. What is this!!! I was thinking what this is a ballad. Then it switches up! What a game changer. It’s very Light Years era but it’s good. It’s classic Kylie. Very camp. Dancefloor Darling changes the pace of the album slightly but I think it’s needed. This does kinda change in the second half of the song the opening parts It’s less in your face but she does sound really good on this vocally and I like the simplicity of the lyrics. A highlight. Unstoppable isn’t one of my favourites. The closest thing to being forgettable on this album. Celebrate You is the most mellow song on this but the change in pace comes at a good time. Simple lyrically but it’s a sweet song what has definite replay value. More for the end of the disco. I can see why this closes the non deluxe version of the album. Till You Love Somebody is a good track. Produced well. It may grow on repeated listens. I think the pre chorus on this is one of the strongest moments on the album. Very catchy. Fine Wine is a bit too strong to be a deluxe track! This is one of the best tracks on the whole thing. Definite replay value and a definite stand out. I think this would work as a single and a live performance of this would work so well. Hey Lonely has a slightly more relaxed vibe to it. A chill almost ibiza style track. I think her vocals shine on this. But I can see why it was on the deluxe version in a way. It’s not bad but doesn’t add a lot to the album. Spotlight the album closer definitely closes the album in style. The “hey yeah everyone dances so crazy” part is literally embedded in my head. In general DISCO is very much Kylie in 2020. I love the overall sound and vibe the album has. There’s definitely a theme that’s been adapted but I think this very much feels like a more natural sound to Kylie than what Golden did. It’s like a reinvention in a way of the Light Years era but mix that in with stuff like Confessions On A Dancefloor and more recent albums like Future Nostalgia and you can kinda get the vibe of what the overall album is like. She is thriving on this. This is exactly the kind of music she should be making it suits her voice personality and everything to a T! I’m totally stunned an album over 30 years into a career can rank so high but this proves that Kylie still has it and she is a force. This is her giving her fans everything we want but she does it in a way what’s still pretty much new to her. And the fact she was so heavily involved in this too even mastering the tracks gets her more points for me. A perfect revival and the perfect album for the current climate to provide a much needed escape.
