US radio charts are kind of interesting to look into but it's also a farce that tries its hardest to pretend it's organic, pretty sus tbh.
everybody knows payola is the most normal thing in the world but the article is an interesting read
DJ's accepting payola has always been a scandal, ruins careers going back to the 50's and DJ Alan Freed. Anything involving cash and profits is always going to be subject to abuse. The main issue is: do the artists want to be associated with reputational damage caused by hirelings of their record label? Cos that's a lot harder to swallow and more long-term than chart positions being a few places lower.......
I think this week has shown that Shawn is one of the biggest Payola people on streaming too...
I'd like to see this type of article about Spotify playlists

^yes, but all labels have deals with Spotify

the clearest example was the latest Sam Smith (Diamonds) insta-added as track #5 on HH

also a few weeks back, Little Mix-Holiday suddenly moved to track #5 when the song was terribly tanking and no one cared

Imagine a chart without payola,

Mariah would have 0 #1s in the US then :D hahaha

"Can we move Ellie c Goulding to a steady 40 a week? And x-ambassadors to start 5 a day. We need beach swag."

"Make sure we kill Lovely the band [sic] til Sat,”
