I hope the record company will do something but it's January already.

I have a feeling they will announce it on the actual anniversary date.

Yeah thinking about it that would be the most logical date to announce it. Especially with the Christmas merch in Dec and Stamps in Jan.

Fingers crossed the vinyl happens I think of all solo albums a Free Me vinyl would sell best. It has a bit of a cult fanbase beyond just Emma fans.

Even though a pink vinyl would be the obvious colour for Free Me, I kind of hope it has a different colour option too… white could work nicely. My Happy Place had two different pink vinyl and her Spice vinyl is pink, so let’s mix it up a bit, Emma!

My hopes for Free Me on vinyl would be that it does well enough to convince them to do Life in Mono as well. It’s clearly not as renowned as Free Me but surely there’s enough fans who would like it for them to justify a limited pressing.

Then I want Universal to wake up and consider that it’s worth pressing A Girl Like Me! Let’s have the entire Bunton catalogue on vinyl! :w00t:

I hope Gabrielle was right and that Dreams can come true!

White would be nice, though I think they will go for the pink which I will certainly not complain about either :yahoo:

Also I hope it does get released on international streaming/buying platforms too, damn.

Let's go Bunton :cheer:

Good, insightful podcast on Free Me by the excellent pop music podcast Right Back At Ya!

They call it the very best solo Spice album too :cheer: :teresa: They also discuss the semi-independent release deal they did for the album with 19 Records and Universal

What was exactly "independent"? The release was handled by Polydor.

It was semi-independent, a three-way deal between her, 19 Management and Polydor (Universal). Meaning, she would create the music, paid by 19 Records, and would then get distributed by Polydor.

So she would have creative freedom, supported and managed by 19. Then the record label would promote it, but not get involved in the making of the music.

Alright, girls. This friday we will find out if Emma is gonna announce Free Me 20 Year Anniversary release. Now that the spice girls thing has gone kaput, this is the only solo related thing that I still have any sort of hope.

I have expections for this, Emma don’t let us down but I’m not positive about it.

I'm trying to keep my expectations low, unfortunately... With the Spice Girls, I have learnt over the years to not expect anything, even the 'unexpected'

Knowing la Bunton, if we get as much as a vinyl or even Free Me to be available on international streaming, I call that a win. If we get more, like a CD or a one-off gig, then that would be brilliant.

In reality, we will probably get an instagram post and she will thank us all for support over the years. But she will be back at posting about her dog as soon as that is over.

:mansoncheer: I had kept my expectations low but a damn... a low-quality home made video from a dark room saying 'thanks' is a new low I wasnt expecting lol

Definitely her best work and at least she acknowledged it. It’s crazy to believe it’s been 20 years since that time.

I appreciate the sentiment of her video but what a missed opportunity to not do something to celebrate. :( I don’t put the blame on her, it seems clear that 19/Universal don’t care. It’s pretty unforgivable that after all this time the album still isn’t accessible to stream worldwide & that the videos aren’t even officially uploaded.

It's just really baffling at this point... I don't really get why it is so hard to do anything for such an iconic album... Will Young was also with 19 for a while and he seems to be able to use his catalogue from that era, so I dont get why this is such an issue with Emma, other than her own team not moving or not having moved back then to secure her rights to use the material...

The only way I can see her getting out of this is by buying her own masters and getting a new team to re-focus her career. She's in a really tough spot career wise, sadly, after so many years of neglect of her own catalogue and not touring. But I don't see this changing anytime soon...

I kinda anticipated that this is how it would be acknowledged. Ah well... guess I'll be keeping an eye out for when the promo vinyl next appears on eBay for a non-crazy amount. Shame.
