OH FANNY ELL THEY JUST KILLED TINA!!! THEY JUST KILLED HER OFF!!! SHE WAS THE BEST CARTER!!!

But Linda and Shirley exist?

I was wondering when Stuart was going to get involved with the Mick stuff. Apparently New Year is centred around Mick and Linda so not exactly thrilling.

A watchable episode after a shocking couple but I guess that's what happens when you mainly focus on people who can act.

I don't understand why Chelsea is wanting to forgive and bond with Lucas and I'm even more at a loss as to how a serial killer, who was given a life sentence and escaped prison four years ago, has been released, but I did quite like the scenes with them at face value. Zaraah is doing a good job so far.

It's so good to see Patrick with something to finally do. He needs to be utilised so much more, he's fantastic in this paternal role and is one of the few grounded characters left.

Oh Ruby, what have they done to you? :(

Danny Dyer is very one-note, completely out of his depth with this sort of story.

I'm enjoying the Lucas return / scenes but cannot look passed how on earth he would have even been released this early?! He literally tried to escape 4 years ago and killed three(?) people.

I must admit EE is getting a bit heavy we have Sharon trying to kill Ian and failing badly, Gray been a abuser and a killer, Suki trying to bump people off as well by getting her son to do it, and Phil trying to be a hard nut and now we have Lucas.

If Gray is going to kill someone off again its got to be a female, the only person that could be next in line Whitney or Karen if she ever found out, as I can't see anyone else.

Gray to take out Tracey in a shocking turn of events :o

That really would end the show right there.

That would be even more unforgivable than Pat and Ronnie & Roxy

That was really really good. I'm glad they did something like that. I know it was Mick-heavy but it was needed to address how he's feeling. I loved seeing Lee again too, more of him please

It was nice to see Lee again and have Mick indirectly address his depression from years ago-I would have liked more reflection about the way he reacted to Lee’s suicide attempt and general depression but I guess we can’t have it all.

But it really felt like a character assassination of Linda at the start tonight. She just wouldn’t behave like this. I still don’t like Mick as a character and I feel they should have done this storyline with a different character. But I suppose Danny Dyer can win his awards now.

It was a very depressing episode last night I think they needed some mixture but I understand the message they were aiming to portray.

That was pretty good, I actually really felt for Mick for a change. But absolutely no at the ‘just me and you, L, no police, let’s just forget about it’ there is surely more the come with this but I wouldn’t put it past the show right now to just drop the abuse storyline and just forget about it.

I’ve not been able to take Max seriously for a while and it’s never rung true that Linda has ever.

Rainie shouting at Callum down the phone was life giving.

My comments on NYE's episode:

That episode was actually really good in itself and could have been great if the rest of the storyline had been handled correctly. Danny Dyer did a good job as it felt like he actually tried and changed up his acting delivery. Seeing Lee again was a genius move as it added so much weight to the episode, knowing his history. It was great to see Mick finally have some sort of reflection on how he treated Lee and his depression. I feel like contextually he may have realised the parallels between Max/Linda and himself and Whitney and the effect that had on Lee, although it would have been better to see that explicitly mentioned and even better to see Mick admit all this to Lee himself.

I thought the flashbacks were done really well, proving that they work for special episodes and for effect rather than used all the time and with little care for whether they're needed. A great script from Simon Ashdown too. I really liked how it showed us what a Samaritans call is actually like, I think that could be really useful for people to hear, especially this time of year, whilst still being appropriate to the story.

The EastEnders set looks stunning at Christmas.

That glimpse of Sharon in the pub on NYE should have been really exciting but it just made me sad.

NYE and NYD have been the highlight of the festive period and of the Mick storyline. The affair really did cheapen it and you can feel that in the Mick & Linda scenes on NYD. The Mick & Katy scenes were very well done - I feel there's got to be more to come. We've still yet to bring Frankie into the mix!

Linda and Max have never been believable. In fact, given how Mick fell to pieces during Kellie’s maternity leave a few years ago, Mick and Linda’s relationship has been poorly written for some time and there seems to be an emphasis on the fact that they can’t function unless they’re having loads of sex.

New Years episodes have been better than Christmas episodes for a good few years now.

Much better than christmas day but I agree the Linda and max affair is totally unbelievable and cheapened the story but Kellie was brilliant in her scenes last night. She is a fantastic actress and with big scenes she really shows how poor Danny is. Danny is fine in lighter scenes but struggles with big scenes where Kellie thrives. I'm still thinking we are gona see phil and kat get together.
