I really don’t think they’ll mess with Janine because they can’t afford to. Charlie Brooks has had stints during good times and bad and yet Janine is one of the most consistently good characters going. I’m choosing to be optimistic.

I’m genuinely surprised they managed to convince Charlie Brooks to return!! I don’t think they’ll mess with her character too much - Janine is genuinely one of the most popular and iconic characters from the show. They will know there’s a lot at stake in bringing her back.

(I hope she’s still rich)

She needs to be rich!! I'm sick of thrm bringing her back poor, only to make her rich as she leaves, whilst the Mitchells get to have mor emoney than Kim Kardashian.
Watch her come back to be killed off.

That was my first reaction after I saw the news about Janine coming back. The returneers do end up getting killed off at some point.

I just wish she was back under a better executive producer but hopefully Charlie knows the storyline in advance and knows it's worth returning for. I also wish Pat was still around for her return yet again showing killing her off was a bad decision, eith Janine back Ricky is sure to turn up at some point. Janine first job should be to give Whitney a right good kick up the backside and get her away from been a love sucking fool or do us a favour and kill her off for been so stupid.

They should never have killed off Pat!

Now let me get this right: Gray and Chontelle had a powerful storyline about domestic violence, with him not receiving his comeuppance, but that has now been swept aside and become just a part of his derial killer storyline?! Also, is there any way Kush survived and is just mangled? It makes no sense to get rid of a popular character for shock value in a serial killer storyline. As long as he is alive, Bonnie Taylor can come back, too. I thought they were originally going to do a powerful suicide storyline with Kush last year anyway?

Charlie always sounded like she was done and dusted with EE for some time, so I can't imagine she's agreed to come back unless the story is right.

Ya i am surprised she is returning as in her recent interviews she did sound like she was done and dusted but i suppose the pandemic has changed peoples mind as their industry has got so badly hit and maybe Charlie knows for now EastEnders is a safe income which is understandable. With Gray i still think they should have concentrated on the domestic violence storyline with Chontelle as for a while i thought it had the potential to be good, i would have loved Chontelle to have fought back, got away from him and also got him jailed as i think that would have been a really positive way to portray the storyline and would have had a longer and lasting impact than the sensationalism way they are going with Gray. Corrie did their storyline really well with Yasmeen but i would have preferred a a better ending, with these storylines killing off the character is boring and i think it would be better for them to serve their time in jail and live with the shaming in public too and it always leaves the door open for a return.

I cant see how in anyway Kush could have survived and just disappeared but then again it is soapland.

I sometimes disagree with the ‘they never should have killed_____’ crowd. Pat I think could have lived or died but she’d only have gotten more irrelevant and we got some great episodes and aftermath from it. Ronnie was a burnt out character who had little left to do. Mel, I love her so much, but Tamzin was never coming back, we got some great episodes and the character had reached a natural conclusion.

The deaths I think were regrettable are:

1) Roxy Mitchell-she could have had years out of her sisters shadow.

2) Abi Branning-gone before her time and much more interesting than the useless surviving Lauren.

3) Steven Beale-they just mucked it all up.

4) Denny Rickman-this could have been worth it but they screws up the aftermath.

5) Sort of Heather Trott-I see why it happened but it just seems weird that all the Carter stuff happened after.

On the other hand, I wish they’d killed Alfie Moon in 2018 when they had the chance. I think Janine will be fine, she’s a character they’re going to want to bring back time and again and I’m confident they must have good material to hook Charlie Brooks.

I hope he did survive. He basically became an adopted Slater. I didn't think he was the greatest character, and he was supposedly obsessed witht he gym, and yet he - the character - was in the pub knockin back 10 pints a night, but he was a stable, non-sensationalist character, and a soap needs people like that to have at its heart, and to retain a sense of normality amongst all the crazy soap shenanigans.

I completely agree r.e Chontelle. It would have been far more impactful to have focused on her domestic abuse storyline. If they then wanted to pivot to him becoming a MASS MURDERER, a male Janine, then fine, but only after her storyline was resolved in a satisfactory way, such as her escaping. If they could have divided the two, and spent far longer looking at the implications of domestic violence, the alienation, and the struggle to get free, and then switched to sensationalist soap serial killer #100 after Chontelle got free, fine, I suppose. How they have done it has relegated the domestic abuse SERIOUS storyline to a campy, soapland serial killer story. It has really lessened the impact. Compare this to the lasting impact of Trevor and Little Moe.

Typical Whitney right there, only thinking of herself. How can Carmel have the audacity to want her son’s funeral in Dubai where she lives? Doesn’t she realise it’s not all about her family and that Whitney has just lost her latest fiancé of the week?

Those were my thoughts exactly :kink:

I found Jean and Nancy’s exchange odd tonight as I’m not sure they’ve ever actually met before. Jean did pop in and out last time Nancy was in it but I don’t recall them ever sharing a scene. I mean they’d know who each other is, of course, but still.

For me Cindy Beale, Tiffany mitchell and Pat were 3 that should never have been killed off. And with cindy bern killed off off screen made it worse. I do agree that Roxy but more so ronnie had run their course but they could have just wrote them out so they could return later. Alfie I'd have bern happy to have seen killed off and same with whitney. It's more than likely whitney will be head over heels in love by christmas, if they are persistent on keeping her delve into her birth family more and keep her away from love stories.

Well, we all knew Nancy and Tamwar would be divorcing. He’s not been lucky on the marriage front, has Tamwar.

I’m amazed Bernadette is getting a storyline and a love interest at the same time after months of nothing but I stan everything she does so this is all good.

That was a shocking episode, nothing interesting got more than a short scene, wailing cliched monologues from Linda and Karen and too much Bailey looking sad. Such a filler episode. Needed more Janet.
I see the soap awards are cancelled again for this year, prob not a major loss to Eastenders as i doubt they would have been the big winners although may have picked up an award or 2.
