1. Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/daniel%20bedingfield%20gotta%20get%20through%20this.jpg Chart Run: 1-1-2-3-2-1-3-6-13-11-13-22-27-39-45-55-54-54->18

This was Daniel Bedingfield's debut single, with an opening week sale of 108,000! I think this is the best of his three #1's and is by far the most up-tempo.

Random fact: Bedingfield recorded this in his bedroom!

2. S Club 7 - Have You Ever

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/15527.jpg Chart Run: 1-2-3-7-6-7-9-23-35-56-45-37-46-61->14

In the second week of its chart run, this was S Club's third #1, but this pales into insignifcance when compared to 2000's Children In Need song, 'Never Had A Dream Come True'.

Random Fact: This was the last Children In Need song to get to the top spot. (EDIT - No its not, Girls Aloud did it in 2004!)

3. PPK - ResuRection

http://www.csulb.edu/~dsidorov/Music/Images/PPK.gif Chart Run: 3-6-8-12-11-11-19-25-34-32-32-43-60-62-71->15

This brilliant dance tune was this Russian acts only big UK hit, and was a return to the upper reaches of the chart for its label, Perfecto. Inspired by the Space Race (and containing clips of actual cosmonaut broadcasts from space) this is a top class dance tune.

Random fact: This was the highest charting Russian single in the UK ever until pseudo Lesbians Tatu appeared in 2003.

4. Hear'Say - Everybody

This was popstar's Hear'says big comback single and lead tune from their album of the same name. Despite being a damn good pop song, this flopped.

Random fact: This was the last Hear'say single to feature Kym Marsh.

5. Riva ft. Dannii Minogue – Who Do You Love Now? (Stringer)

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/15920.jpg Chart Run: 3-5-10-17-20-19-19-24-32-42-46-45-56-67-64->15

Dannii's big comeback, this followed in Kylie's footsteps with a departure into dance. This is an excellent dance tune, and imo, one of her best to date.

Random fact: Riva are (to my knowledge) a pseudonym of a unknown more successful Dance Act!

6. Kate Winslet - What If?

Surprisingly decent musical effort from Kate Winslet. This was her only hit.

Random fact: She was on the Titanic. Apparently.

7. Geri Halliwell - Calling

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/15318.jpg Chart Run: 7-18-30-35-35-43-57-60-69-73->10

Geri's 7th solo effort, this is rather reflective song, which Geri actually co-wrote!

Random fact: This tune was inspired by her time in Ibiza.

8. Blue - If You Come Back

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/blue%20if%20you%20come%20back%20promo.jpg Chart Run: 1-2-8-16-23-21-21-30-43-46-63-52-55->13

This was Blue's second consecutive chart topper, and this is the foursome at their peak, in its third and final week in the top 10. I think this track showcases Lee Ryan's amazing vocal range perfectly. Yes, I liked Blue!

Random fact: Blue almost had to change their name as they were sued in 2001 by the creator of a band called Blue from 1977. Modern day Blue won the case!

9. Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At?

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/basement%20jaxx%20where%20your%20head%20at.jpg Chart Run: 9-27-34-33-37-42-53-65->8

Basement Jaxx's third single (there are alot of thirds in this thread!) from their album Remedy. This rounded off a successful 2001 for the dance act, after hits like Romeo (:wub:) and Jus1kiss.

Random fact: The video screws with your mind, as it has animals experimenting on humans!

10. Westlife - Queen Of My Heart

http://www.mattscdsingles.com/acatalog/15700.jpg Chart Run: 1-2-4-10-15-22-25-28-36-47-57-66-67-51-61->15

Westlife's ninth #1, and easily one of their worst. This song is depressingly bland, but I suppose every Top 10 has at least one stinker in it. Follow up World Of Our own is far better.

Random fact: Westlife are Irish, apparently. Who would have guessed?

Well, this is the Top 10 rundown from 5 years ago, at the start of December 2001. Any comments or memories?

Thanks to Mikey and Polyhex, by the way.

thanks for this :D brings back memories. I wouldn't necessarily call #4 a flop though :( rather harsh!

Everybody :wub: is so good!

Everybody :wub: is so good!

Its really good, but lets face it, it did rather flop :(

Grest dance tunes from Riva, PPK, Basement Jaxx - all became classics.

All as always come c**p from Hear'Say and Westlife

and beauty Kate :)

what about girls aloud ill stand by you i thought that was for children in need in 2004 which would have made them the last one to reach the top spot?

Erm, oh yeah!! I knew I was missing one! :lol:

2002 - Will Young - You and I #2

2003 - Shane Richie - Im Your Man #2

2004 - GIRLS ALOUD! #1 :cheer:

2005 - Liberty X - A Night To Remember #6

2006 - Emma Bunton - Downtown #3

I stand corrected :D

Yes, they will, but maybe about once a month, to avoid having too many songs the same :D

Thanks, Mark.
