Thanks for hosting James and lovely to see more people this time :cheer:

Have a great evening for now

Just finished reading through this. It was great reading everyone’s thoughts.

I’ve got a bit on today but will hopefully start this in the next few hours.

Time to get this party started!!

Lately:

I quite like this one, it's a very strong start from Lisa. I loved this back around 2004 when I heard this for the first time.

It's a shame she couldn't keep follows ups as strong.

Too Far Gone:

Another great song from Lisa, 2 from 2 for me so far. I use to prefer this to Lately but now they're about even. I had this on repeat back when I first heard it.

Electric:

I was OBSESSED with this back in 2005. So much so the 'Duracell got nothing on me' may or may not have been my MSN Messenger status for a while. (oh the shame). I went through a period of really not liking this but I've turned the corner and I'm really enjoying this again.

The first tree were al serviceable but after that it falls away pretty quickly.

Back In Time:

I'm really getting the Danni vibes with this, maybe even a touch of Cascada. I don't really remember this but I'm liking it.

Obscenely Delicious:

Hmm I'm not really clicking with this song at all. It sounds like a Kylie or Danni b-side. First miss of the album for me.

Boy On The Dancefloor:

I'm not really keen on this one either sorry. She seems to sing sped up or is it just me? This album is starting to head downhill for me.

Give You My Love:

This is ok, but again nothing special. Everything after track 4 so far has been pretty forgettable. Sorry, I'm not meaning to sound negative.

Make It Last Forever:

This sounds like a random track you'd get on a dance compilation album. I'm not really that much of a fan of this either sadly.

Sleazy:

Wasn't expecting this sound from Lisa but I'm enjoying this, best song on the album since Back In Time for me.

I'll Wait For You:

This is pleasant but a little forgettable. Saying that it's continuing the slight improvement of the album towards the back end of it.

You're No Good For Me:

I'm actually enjoying this sound for Lisa, it's such a nice change up to the middle part of the album.

Rush:

My first thought on this is that it sounds very Hillary Duff and teen Disney movie soundtrack type of song. I don't mind this one.

Never Or Now:

I'm not quite sure what to make of this one, it doesn't really sound like Lisa though to me.

Overall I'm not really keen on this album, the first 3 songs are all 8/10+ songs for me and Back in time is at worst a 7. Everything else after that isn't great, there's a few salvageable moments but the majority is forgettable sadly. I was such a huge Lisa fan in the day and this was a disappointment for me.

Thanks for hosting James and for everyone's contributions.

Is H & Claire's album next? That's our last one isn't it?

Yeah, I had such high hopes back when this was announced/released, but at least we eventually got it.

Also thanks to the mod who combined all my posts.

Lately, it is of its time but still remains enjoyable.

Too Far Gone, provided hope Lisa could build her solo music career.

Electric, another good attempt that should have had a wider appeal.

Back in Time, as others also touched in, it has a Dannii Minogue vibe

Obscenly Delicious is a long way off delicious.

Boy on the Dancefloor, I am not keen on.

Give You My Love, an improvement on the previous 2 tracks.

Make it Last Forever, thankfully it doesn't last forever.

Sleazy, delivers an unexpected sound from what we previously heard and I will give more time to this song.

I'll Wait For You,very dull and forgettable.

You,re No Good For Me, would be in the strong section of the album which unfortunately only accounts for a small percentage of the album.

Rush, pleasant but has very low memorability.

The album is not an album I would rush to listen to again in full.

It's forgettable for the most part.

Yes and I’ll try and compile a few additional things like Faye’s single and any other one off tracks for an additional one if I can…

Same and indeed!

And good to see your thoughts as well Pippa :)

Ahead of the kick of i was watching some of Lisas Top of the pops performances, lately ones sounds live for most parts of it which she performed very well.

TOTP had a period in 2003 where they seemed to insist on acts performing with live vocals (as an effort to boost ratings?). I remember this because Dannii's I Begin To Wonder was released and it's not a song that does well with live vocals.

I'm sure there's more examples from this period. I think they dropped it by mid-2003 because I think Dannii's performances of I Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling / Groove were mimed.

Another little fact I just found out, Lisa didn't want 'Electric' as a single, it was the label's choice, she wanted 'Never Or Now', which was why the album was named after the rejected single choice. This is from her cringey MTV reality show.
Dunno if anybody's heard these tracks (apart from 'U Sure Do'), but they were apart of her original solo album Unleashed

If the album had got an actual release in the UK how do you think it would have done, do you think it would have charted higher or lower than H and Claires album?

I'd say lower as interest in her solo work waned rapidly after 'Lately'. Although some of those left over 'Unleashed' tracks sound more interesting than a lot of what made 'Never or Now'. 'U Sure Do/I'll Wait For You' was the original planned 3rd single before Lisa got dropped, but judging from the #11 peak of 'Too Far Gone', doubt 'U Sure Do; would have done any better & probably would have charted low top 20 or top 30 at best.

As for the album if it got released in its original form in 2003 I'd say Top 75 at best. But 'Never or Now' in 2007, it would miss the top 100, as critics would tear it apart & the publid just weren't interested at that point.

I prefer Unleashed as it’s more ‘cohesive’ (sticking to the pop/dance route). Burnt out and falling sounds very nice!

I ego what Nina is saying. The album could’ve been top 75/100 after Lately. Other then that I think both albums would have been struggling tbh.
