Posted November 23, 20204 yr 22nd November 2020 It's a return to the top spot 39 years on, as Abba get a 5th week on top for Lay All Your Love On Me, one of their greatest tracks pushing out a crop of current great singles. Kylie is both climbing and dropping throughout the chart with top track at 4 being Last Chance, her 3rd top 5 of the year. Vera Blue gets a top 10 2 years on from debuting, and Jake Bugg gets his first since 2013's Lightning Bolt. Big top 40 climbs for Ruelle, The Raveonettes, and Marisha Wallace, with new entries from the DMA's at 42 and Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa at 49 gives both 3 tracks on the list. LP continues to have a good chart year with How Low Can You Go at 70, & a batch of classic oldies selling on itunes for various reasons (like adverts) pop in to join other oldies: the late Billy Preston & late Syreeta (former Mrs Stevie Wonder who has a new track lower-down) with their fab 1980 top 10 ballad, and Janet Kay's wonderful 1979 reggae classic Silly Games which I was getting tears in my eyes singing along to, and jiggling about a bit, a couple of years ago when I crashed a largely Caribbean reggae & soul 60th birthday disco (I was invited by my main who was there). I often get tears in my eyes singing along to old songs! More oldies from Slade, How Does It Feel was the song that broke Slade's run of big hits, but it's a pretty good ballad I under-appreciated in 1975, ditto Alphaville's Forever Young in 1986-ish, now covered by Becky Hill. I prefer the original. Andy Burrows, ex-Razorlight and solo career, returns as a duo reminiscing about old TV Shows and Top Of The Pops. Lana Del ray covers a much-covered Gershwin classic from 80 or 90 years ago, of the Depression-era, Summertime. It has charted before a few times, the biggest by Fun Boy Three in 1982 when it went top 10 for me. Veteran Dion is back for a 3rd time in 2020, with a great new Xmas song that echoes the beat of The Wanderer, his early 60's classic. Chic's 1978 Everybody Dance has been sampled for a dance track, but they've brought along Nile Rodgers himself. Finally, Scottish rock band Nazereth were charting when Yes Sir I Can Boogie topped my chart in 1977. Appropriately they are side-by-side as Baccara sell thanks to some Scotland fans. Yes, the Abba influx is due to the 3 singles being released on coloured vinyl for the 40th anniversary of Super Trouper. I don;t need much of an excuse to chart Abba, especially B sides which I pointlessly disregarded from my charts at the time because only official singles and A sides of singles were allowed. Talk about anal retentive! :lol: LP is always good, great voice, I love her style of music.
