December 2, 200618 yr what piffle - I suggest you come up with some idea as to WHERE the treasury will find the £4 they get from EVERY packet of 20 fags sold in Britain if people decide to quit - FAR more than smokers (allegedly) cost the NHS per head.... will you be as pious when your taxes fly up through the roof (which they will)? Are you really suggesting that you are doing me a favour by smoking?? By paying all that tax??? It is terribly generous of you to kill yourself on my behalf - thank you xxxx can you clarify what the "allegedly" means?? Are you suggesting that smokers do not require a higher level of medical care and £££ Does smoking not kill slowly and painfully requiring high levels of medical care? Is parental smoking not sited as once of the causes of childhood asthma (inhalers are not cheap) Oh and The House of Commons is NOT a public place and NOT a Private members club - it is a palace. Of course their staff deserve clean air - EVERYONE does - I personally think smoking should be banned anywhere! Edited December 2, 200618 yr by ICR

December 2, 200618 yr Let's bring in 'banning kids', please - then I'll be ecstatic. Hell yeah :D The little $h!ts crawling around my feet  It's so annoying seeing parents getting pissed with their children running around trying to amuse themselves -_-
December 2, 200618 yr Hell yeah :D The little $h!ts crawling around my feet  It's so annoying seeing parents getting pissed with their children running around trying to amuse themselves -_- Well then, it's obviously the parents fault for bringing them there in the first place.
December 3, 200618 yr Oh and The House of Commons is NOT a public place and NOT a Private members club - it is a palace. Of course their staff deserve clean air - EVERYONE does - I personally think smoking should be banned anywhere! Well, the Bar itself is a licenced premesis (ie, it sells alcohol), therefore it is subject to the same laws that any other licenced premesis would be, regardless of whether the Houses of Parliament are considered a Palace.. and it doesn't alter the fact it is one rule for the MPs and another rule for the general public... They are the ones who pushed for this ban on smoking in bars and clubs, so they should damn well follow their own fukkin' rules, end of story... Anything else is just hypocrisy.. So they've got their own private little bar where they can enjoy a puff and a drink but the rest of us dont have that choice, whether we want to exercise it or not..? Fukk off.... <_< I am getting totally sick of this anti-smoking Fascism, and that's coming from a non-smoker. Plenty of other activities are harmful to health, millions of bloody stupid idiots pumping out carbon monoxide into the atmosphere from their fukkin cars and SUVs for one thing, I would say that is a contributor to asthma and other respitory illnesses as well..... Ban smoking, ban cars......

Ban smoking, ban cars...... absolutely... I think ICR has overdosed reading the tabloid (rabidly incorrect) reports on smoking. I notice he/she/it fails to address my point on WHERE this missing tax would be regained from... any ideas, ICR? And SOME smokers require medical attention due to their habit - not ALL. Same as SOME people require medical attention after being exposed to fumes from cars... same as SOME mothers require medical attention after having 6 babies in succession, same as SOME people require medical attention because they enjoy extreme sports. Are we planning on a second-class second-rate NHS service for THESE people, too.. people who, let's face facts, pay FAR less into the treasury coffers than smokers do.....? And far from expecting you to be grateful that I smoke - I do, of course, expect you to be grateful for the COLOSSAL contributions I have made to your tax fund due to my smoking.... contributions you are more than likely yet to even START paying. 12 year old Robbie Williams fans, eh? You couldn't make it up... And, as Kimi is so frightfully worried about smokers polluting our lungs - I wonder if he's ditched his car, too... you know, to help us all live a cleaner life? After all, a car is absolutely an unnecessary luxury in these days of round the clock public transport and is FAR more harmful to us than stray cigarette smoke...... After all, a car is absolutely an unnecessary luxury in these days of round the clock public transport and is FAR more harmful to us than stray cigarette smoke...... Absolutely.. When I first moved down to London, it was the general air pollution that got to me far more than people smoking in bars or clubs (which I was used to..). As far as I'm concerned car exhaust fumes are a far bigger threat to the environment than people smoking, and I would say this has as much of an effect on people's general health too... Oh, but of course nowhere near as much Health Dept research has been ploughed into investigating the effects of air pollution upon the health of the population, focussing almot entirely on the effects of passive smoking (which is certainly not to be downgraded, but some balance please would be nice, the blame seems to be almost entirely placed upon smoking and I think facts are being distorted...).. It certainly doesn't get talked about very much...
December 5, 200618 yr You can't just have something legal just because it contributes to the Treasury though Russ and no I have to intention of giving up my car because it is an essential in this day and age cigarettes are not an essential
December 5, 200618 yr Cars are not a luxury Russ whatever gives you that impression ? my typical food shop consists of around 8 bags (admittedly a lot of them alcohol :o ) but how am I supposed to carry 8 bags of shopping on a bus ? I am not Geoff Capes
December 5, 200618 yr You can't just have something legal just because it contributes to the Treasury though Russ and no I have to intention of giving up my car because it is an essential in this day and age cigarettes are not an essential The fukkin' internal combustion engine sure as sh!t aint essential anymore.... And that is what causes all the problems.... Petrol driven cars are technologically obsolete (and have been for over 50 years..) and should be banned.... Science has created cars that can run on electricity, surgical alcohol, water, rape seed oil..... But of course this technology gets sat upon by the big Oil interests....

This country is a major oil producer though Scott and oil revenues are one of the major things that powers our economy and the oil produced whether we use it internally or export it will be largely used for motor cars and for industry, I don't doubt those things you listed would be greener and would reduce pollution but they make a tiny tiny fraction of our country's revenue barely a drop in the ocean whereas North Sea oil is one of the things that prevents this country being a banana republic Oil revenue far outstrips tobacco revenue
December 5, 200618 yr *** Waiting eagerly for reply from ICR on being 12 years old. *** I love a good clean b**ch fight  keep it clean
December 5, 200618 yr Never mind the b**ch fight. I was more excited at having discovered a 12 year old Robbie fan.

Severe drought, temperatures unbarable, mass starvation, large parts of our country are under sea but LOOK! we have plenty of money :o that makes everything fine :)

Severe drought, temperatures unbarable, mass starvation, large parts of our country are under sea but LOOK! we have plenty of money :o that makes everything fine :) But in your little oil free utopia inflation would probably be somewhere between 100-150% and income tax rates at 40-50% for low earners and 75% for high earners to make up for the loss in oil revenue but hey we can all breathe in beautifully pure air on the way to the bankruptcy court ;)
