Ok, I’m a bit of an insomniac, so I went down the rabbit hole. These are the only discrepancies that I noticed. I hope this helps some. I’ll try to find the appropriate links from Spice News or other sites, and edit this post accordingly. Most of my publishing info was obtained through ASCAP, APRA, BMI, Warner-Chappell, and Sony Publishing. Apologies in advance for being long-winded.

Spice Girls

All We Need Is A Miracle*

Hard To Kill*

In Your Face*

I’m almost 100% positive these are entirely fan fiction. There’s never been any sign of a publishing entry for any of the known writers that match these titles. Every other rumored title floating around back then had been confirmed by publishing entries by the mid 2000s. Registration numbers match the time frame for the registration numbers of songs we heard in Raw Spice. The rumor is Chris Herbert had plans to release Raw Spice and then follow it up with an album of tracks recorded before they left. He had to get the approval of Virgin and the girls, which they reluctantly agreed to the documentary in order to veto the album. These three songs were included in a track listing posted on Spice Zone. The only time I’ve seen them mentioned outside a fan forum was on a Geocities fan page that no longer exists, and on this page.

Inside Out* - Rumored Spice track. Likely mis-titled. This one is interesting because it was reported on Yahoo and MSN referencing an interview. Both links I have are dead unfortunately. What I do have typed is that it was mentioned in an article about the girls, but not by the girls in 1998. The subject matter was a bit too mature for their audience and it was dropped from consideration after they noticed they had a much younger fan base. Could be Serial Killer based on the description since Feed Your Love was known by this point.

Expose* - Another Spice track. I’m pretty certain this is just a flub translating Naked from English to Japanese then back to English. Seems to stem from an interview in Japanese with a rep from Virgin discussing Spice and its success. The only song mentioned that wasn’t on the album. No mention of the song otherwise outside the fandom.

Walk The Same Line* - I have in my notes this was recorded for the movie and wasn’t considered for the album. Then I’ve just got “Abbey Road” written down with nothing else, so maybe it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, or it’s another mis-labeled track. Could very well be a line from Seven Days that references Abbey Road/The Beatles.

If Ya Do* (featuring Janet Jackson) - Both this and the rumored band only version are fake. Stems from an interview with Emma prior to Holler/LLLTW where she was asked if there were any artists she’d like to work with and she said Janet. It appeared on a fake track listing a few months before Forever was released called 4Ever which included Holler (as Holler Holler), Right Back At Ya, Oxygen, If You Wanna Have Some Fun, and Woman. Conveniently, the only songs that were known by the fans. The rest of the tracks were just someone being creative.

Get Out Of Your Head

Saturday

Thank You

These confuse me. All GH era tracks. They each appeared on both BMI and Warner’s databases for a short time listing the girls as performers and songwriters. Get Out Of Your Head and Thank You were listed as early as the beginning of 2007, with Saturday not being listed until mid 2007. By 2010 my notes say they disappeared. I’ve not been able to find them on other databases. These might be some of the songs that Simon gathered in preparation for the Greatest Hits. It’s likely they were registered and held for the girls for that period of time and then reverted once they disbanded again. It’s also possible it was an error in the entries and they have nothing to do with these songs.

Emma

Burnt Out and Falling* - If this was recorded by Emma, and that’s a big if, it was during her first album sessions. It was initially reported on the Dotmusic forum as well as Spice News post from January 2001. Allegedly passed on by Virgin in favor of her collaboration with Tin Tin Out, it was recorded by Lisa Scott-Lee, before again being left unreleased for a second time until Lisa’s was released for the deluxe of her album Never or Now a couple years ago.

Mel C

Time Is Up* - This is fake. The primary source was an online article by The Sun. The only mention of it beyond the forums was a Spice News entry. I don’t have a link for the correct month, though. It was said to have been a new track for a MTV Unplugged album that would be released sometime in 2001.

Mel B

I’ve Got My Eye On You* - This is from the same sessions with Biff that gave us Lullaby; before she started working with the American producers. In an interview during the recording of Hot, she mentioned the song title and that it was written in response to the murder of Stephen Lawrence. Virgin felt it was too political, so it was shelved.

In Da House - This was rumored on a few sites, but there wasn’t any evidence that it was anything other than the live performance at the MOBOs. Most of the sources said Mel and Wyclef premiered a “new” song which is sort of true, but it was only an intro to hype up the crowd. I only have sources in my notes that label it as a rumor.

Victoria

Tantrum* (w/ True Steppers) - This started circulating as a rumor shortly before the OOYM release. Jonny Lisners of True Steppers was asked about it and said that he didn’t have a clue. They discussed the possibility working on a second track that would be used for her debut, but nothing happened.

*All of these songs are listed on this site along with a few we already know, and some other unconfirmed rumors. Last edited in 2002, this is a comprehensive list of all the titles circulating when they were an active band.

About All We Need Is a Miracle I wouldn't be so fast to rule this one out, because I found this on the publishing site, if the research in the Spice Circle is correct, this could be the 3rd Tim Hawes song!

I agree with If Ya Do since it's too good to be true that they have two song titles from the same session starting with "If"? Might've been a song misreport by the media.

Now do we have proof about the song "Don't Look Back"? Where does it coming from?

Thank you this is great!

About Don't Look Back, the information I believe comes from this website which is also the same website that Re-Hash did back in the day. http://spicechronology.atspace.com/spice.html

@Re-Hash Do we have a clip or other evidence to really confirm about Don't Look Back? At the site it's still listed as rumor.

This title really is a peculiar mystery to me. But then that makes the research in Spice Circle incorrect because there would be 5 Alan Glass songs not 4!

Fun fact if you search for Timothy Hawes in SIAE site, he also written has a song called "Don't Look Back"!

I think it is safe to say that some 'rumours' might even be right lol I wouldnt be surprised at all if that Tim Hawes song is the one that the Spice Girls recorded... who knows?... Until it leaks or we have official word, it's mainly rumours. But that song title has been stated in a couple of websites...

I also find quite interesting that we don't know so many titles from the GEM era, and some fans on leaked. cs website have mentioned that there were other songs recorded during/around the Return Tour in 2007/2008, which apparently some collectors have tried to sell before.. Back then, artists often worked on a couple of songs a day and leave them as demos/drafts if they were not picked up for further production/release (which is the state of songs like C U Next Tuesday and Feed Your Love).

I just saw that some fans are stating that Virgin originally commissioned a r'n'b version of WOMAN for inclusion on Forever (which makes sense) but they didn't feel that it worked so scrapped it in the end. Biff has also stated that 'Virgin have all the versions of it' so it is alluding to the songs' various iterations being a reality! Interesting...

I got kicked out over comments made about Ego Spice's lack of talent. Where else can you fund these sangs?

I never found credits for All We Need, so that is definitely interesting to see. It’s been a good 15 years since I searched publishing for the Touch era writers. I kinda lost interest and was more interested in the newer stuff for the GH and other artists.

Don’t Look Back comes from a list of presumed Touch tracks that included I Don’t Wannabe (called Don’t Wannabe), and Don’t You Break My Heart under Alan Glass. None of which were confirmed until years later. The top of my sheet has my grandpa’s name on it in the header, so I printed it off at his house sometime between him getting his computer Dec 98 and when I got mine in Aug 1999. I can’t give any more specifics on that. I probably copies the info from the post to use it as a reference so I wouldn’t forget about them.

My credits for Don’t Look Back are here. I wouldn’t have added them to my page unless there was a publishing entry for it. I would have used ASCAP for most of my searches, and then BMI or Warner-Chappell for anything I couldn’t find there. I’m 100% positive I used BMI for the Touch tracks. There was definitely an entry, but with that Tim entry, now I’m extremely confused Maybe it’ll leak too!

I am confused about these and my own findings as well, things just doesn't add up too nicely haha (also puzzling how does publishing sites works anyway, why are Tim Hawes song registered on SIAE instead?)

Anyways thank you @Re-Hash for explaining about "Don't Look Back", @Mr.X I guess we really never know and can't confirm unless there is a leak of audio, or words from the girls' circle to proof it!

Publishing sites are just a database used to license music for a variety of commercial purposes. It’s served a dual purpose over the years as a way for fans of any fandom to see if they could find proof of songs that allegedly existed. I couldn’t tell you the connection between Tim and SIAE. I’d have to do some digging on that one. I’ve never heard of SIAE until now.

Some speculation on Spice Circle around a Return Tour/Greatest Hits demo being around (note: it is said this demo only features 2 of the girls and is reminiscing of what a pop-version of Forever album would have been), and some have also hinted as a member of that group having Spiceworld era demos Dingeling and Image and Likeness...

Girlfriend/Boyfriend unreleased from forever era is real or not

This was alleged to have been recorded during the US leg of SW98. There was a tape or CD that was in Mel C’s storage unit that went up for auction. I don’t think it’s ever been confirmed if they had vocals on it or if it was just a reference.

On that note, does anyone have those pictures from the eBay post? I can’t remember what else was on some of those.

  • Author

No idea. I believe they were on Spice Circle and remember seeing the promo CD that stated Girlfriend/Boyfriend but can't remember anything else that might have been on there (admitedly I dont much care for solo Mel C so maybe some other fans know?)...

EDIT: found the post with pictures. You can tell there are a few My Strongest Suit promo CDs there with some edits of that track, as well as some Emma Bunton demos lol and what seems to be cassette tapes of Spiceworld-era songs such as Stop, Spice Up Your Life, etc.

Well, it was heavily rumoured throughout the years that they recorded it and the CD promo in Mel C's old storage is definitely real but we don't know if it was just a demo that was sent to the girls for them to consider or if it was actually recorded.

I want to believe that yes it was recorded lol

In another world/reality, I do think it would have been great for them to do a song like that in 1999/ealry 2000s as it would have helped bridge the r'n'b sound they were seeking at the time, and it would have probably prepared the fans/GP ahead of Forever.

At this point I wouldn't doubt it if fans have all of the Biff Forever pop produced songs.

For the 30th anniversary it would be great if they did something similar to The Beatles anthology series.

Anthology 1 could contain material from 1994-1996. This would probably be the best fit to officially release a few of the superior Touch era songs.

Anthology 2 could contain material from 1997-2000. This would be a good fit to release some of the best pop outtakes from Forever.

Added the released live versions of songs by Spice Girls (from the Stop, Goodbye and Viva Forever singles as well as Spiceworld25) and various Melanie C live tracks including on b-sides for On The Horizon, Yeh Yeh Yeh and the various EPs and Live albums).

Did I miss anything? I don't think Emma Bunton or Geri have ever released live tracks???

You forgot to include the bonus track Anything Goes on the Stages album (Melanie C)

Thanks, added.

Have also added the Good Vibrations song that Emma did for Party at the Palace as that was technically released on a CD as well! Shame the Baby Love performance never got included in the actual releases though.

Also, I was SURE that Emma had released a 2 Become 1 live performance as a b-side during the Free Me era as well? She sang it so often lol

My next quest would be to catalogue ALL the remixes that have been released, even those that got sent through with promo CDs only... I know Mel B's For Once in My Life got like 6729 remixes sent to DJs lol but I don't know if I have the stamina for that and it might need a different topic/thread all together as it would make this so bulky it would be hard to follow all the information 🙃

Anyone know a good source for lists of remixes? Thinking of those on iTunes, Discogs, Spotify, CDs etc but also where to find those million Mel B mixes as well which are not easy to find... Not here for fan or AI mixes so will try to avoid YouTube alltogether as it is filled with those

EDIT: WAIT!!!! Is this all the Mel B mixes??? https://www.discogs.com/release/14202542-Mel-B-For-Once-In-My-Life
