That wasn’t the case in 2017. Wham was #1 on Spotify for several days as people were trying to get Last Christmas to #1 on the anniversary of George Michael’s death. However, it actually re-peaked at #2 on the Official Singles Chart and Ed Sheeran was #1 with Perfect.

Only 200 streams separate Mariah and Wham from yesterday’s streams, anyway. It’s not really that big of a margin - and ACR will make that margin even smaller.

It's already happened, in 2018 - Ariana's 'thank u next' was the highest non-Christmas song at #57. Although this year I'd say a top 75 full of Christmas songs is possible, maybe even top 100

It is someghint that’ll be interesting in the years ahead to see how things change or if people will continue to be spoon feed by playlists!

Now for a VERY hypothetical top 40, but this could be a potential look at how next Friday's chart could be shaping up!

 

- Christmas songs removed (of course, some may still be charting from Xmas Day streams etc but hard to measure that impact)

- ACR + 3 track rules applied

- ACR also applied for those songs that are potentially going to ACR this coming Friday - those songs are positions, Sweet Melody, Midnight Sky and Golden. Of course, they could still avoid it!

- There's also the potential anomaly of The Kunts but hard to know what's gonna happen with that after this tracking week ends. I've left them in for now.
