dear lord that's quite the collapse in streaming numbers, did everyone decide to just stop listening to music yesterday? 214k for #1 is amazingly low, and would've only got you as high as #106 on Xmas day.

Is Why D’you Only Call Me When You’re High’s top 50 placement TikTok related?

It's the lowest #1 in the spotifycharts archive (since 1/1/2017)

FYI.. Wham and Mariah are still well ahead of CJ for the week in streaming numbers so far, AND this is with ACR taken into account.

Wham – Last Christmas 1,493,213

Mariah – All I Want… 1,434,942

CJ – Whoopty 526,864

Positions ahead of 69? At least CJ is technically #1 seeing as he’s on SCR meaning he could have the first #1 of 2021
Wow Xmas songs dominating more on the 27th compared to last year but I’m guessing streams are maybe similar just smaller overall. Thought streams would be a lot better over all with lockdown and all!

Ok, this indicates that Mimi could actually be #1 instead of Wham.

but actually with these super low sales

I'm sure Jess Glynne did more than Wham/Mariah on Amazon alone considering she's on SCR

so she could just do it on Fri Amazon sales alone

And another 4 x 200k for CJ for the rest of the week still won’t be enough.

The unknown factors are:

- Whether Mariah’s other platforms take her ahead of Wham!

- Ed’s downloads

- Alexa’s general unpredictability

- Whether Positions and Sweet Melody really are on ACR (I think the latter may just have avoided and it does very well on Amazon)

It’s certainly an interesting week!

And weather New Year’s Eve has any effect on streams, albeit they will be predicted!
Why were yesterday’s streaming numbers so low?

Why were yesterday’s streaming numbers so low?

post-Christmas i guess, 26th and 27th chart in the US marking the first time no songs have done over 1M streams.

Sunday is also the slowest day of the week
'positions' is actually down on its number of streams from this day last week which doesn't exactly bode well for its chances of being reset. I do think with Christmas Day being split into a separate week we might just not see a repeat of last year's mass post-Xmas resets at all, as the market slump overall probably won't be as big as it was last year (it'll have 2 weeks in a row of fairly big drops rather than 1 single week with an enormous drop). So look out for some truly abysmal #1 sales in coming weeks if current Spotify figures are anything to go by!

I wonder how much boost TOTP Thursday show will do, depends who is performing on the day. Alfie Templeman, Arlo Parks, Becky Hill, DJ Nathan Dawe featuring KSI and Ella Henderson, Sigala and James Arthur, Yungblud, and Wes Nelson featuring Hardy Caprio. They also relive performances by Alicia Keys, Michael Kiwanuka and more.

Nothing really stands out

I rather have Wham at #1, Mariah Carey already had 2 weeks.

Ed Sheeran must be doing peanuts

So the top 5 could be looking like

1 Wham!

2 Mariah

3 CJ

4 Jess

5 Ed
