Mama album version and live version with the choir and Mel B and Emma back and forth ending is glorious. I'd take Headlines over Too Much any day.
2 Become certainly eclipses Too Much and Goodbye massively sort of in a similar way to Wannabe eclipsing their entire discography (which kind of saddens me as to certain passive fans it makes them look like a 1 hit wonder)

I think Too much was their most grown up song up until that point. 2 become 1 and Goodbye are gorgeous but definitely fit into the bubblegum pop vibe wheres Too Much is more mature, and has aged like fine wine!

That intro and the build up nnngggh it gets me every time leading into Mel B's sublime "Love is bliiiind as far as the eye can seee" Then Melanie C's power belting moments and her adlibs and the 5 girl harmonies are sublime. The performance at the AMAs (I think it was, a pre-recorded one) is possibly the best they ever sounded.

I certainly appreciate the song for more as an adult that's for sure, I kind of liked it but dismissed it as a child.

I truly love all three of their Christmas #1s, what a high quality run of ballads

Even at the age of 9 I really liked Too Much… I played the cassette of it over and over! I strongly associate that song with Christmas 97 and the general feeling of Spicemania at that point.

By the way, today’s date (14th December) is 23 years since the release of Goodbye! :drama: I remember getting the CDs at an independent record store in Lichfield, and they included a window display promotional poster of Goodbye… which was gorgeous… I had it on my wall for months! Sadly when my parents and I moved house in September 1999, the poster (and seemingly all my other posters) got lost in the move :(

Oh no, sorry about your posters, that must have been so sad as a kid

Personally, I think Too Much is classy as hell. It isnt their most immediate of songs but I think it is really a gorgeous track that showed maturity and progression in their sound.

It's probably the one that I ended up appreating more and more over time. Goodbye was always a huge song for me, as it is beautifully written (that lyric 'Look for the rainbow in every storm' is probably one of their best ever) and overall better produced and sang. But Too Much is just pure class and gorgeous. Them melodies are to DIE FOR and Mel B's opening verse is just

But Too Much is also on that standard, I think. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. And the video is ICONIQUEE!!!

I mean.... Gerita as Marilyn Monroe?!??!?!

On another note...

When they celebrate Goodbye25 in two years ( :teresa: ) they should release a EP with all the Christmas #1s and new, Christmas versions of the songs as well, to celebrate their incredible run of 3 consecutive Christmas #1s!!

Omg PREACH it Mr.X :cheeseblock:

Yeah I'm kind of surprised they've not leaned more into their status of having three Christmas #1s and have a release that features them and the Christmas songs. Even if it was just a streaming/download exclusive.

By the way they're in a very close battle with Girls Aloud in Official Charts' Christmas #1s semi-final... I had to go with 2 Become 1! Sorry GA

1368 votes for Spice Girls vs 1232 for Girls Aloud :o

I have a feeling that if Spice Girls get through to the final, straight people are really going to rally around either Queen or Rage Against the Machine beating them.

To be honest, Killing in the Name is an ICONIC Christmas #1 and either song would deserve it!!!
But also, it will go down really well to have 2Become1 as #1 specially as it is 2B1's 25th anniversary tomorrow

RATM fans have pulled it back, somehow the result is now 50% each, even though it was more like 60/40 earlier.

Spice Girls 49%, RATM 51%… 5 hours to go. I’m sure RATM will win tbh! :drama:

Yesterday was Too Much’s 24th anniversary and today is 2 Become 1’s 25th
