I'm always a bit shocked they didn't hit the studio late summer 99 to record a Christmas album to tied things over. The xmas tour would have been the promo for it and no pressure to even release a single for it properly.

Same title as the tour Christmas in Spiceworld. 8 covers and 2 originals I'm sure they could have knocked it out in a couple of weeks. If one of the originals ended up being really good could have tried for the 99 xmas number 1.

I have said for years this would have been such a no brainer for them in 1999, would have been an excellent way to bridge the time gap between Spiceworld and Forever plus like you said couple of original tracks, throw on Christmas wrapping (perhaps add Victoria and Mel B's vocals if they weren't keen on it being a duet) plus some other Xmas classics, no big commitment to promoting it as could tie it in with the tour plus a few TV appearances, would surely (in the UK at least) have been a bit of a hit. I imagine with their 1999 power they could potentially have challenged for the #1 too.

Then a big strong classic sounding Christmas track as contender for Xmas #1 they would have had a great chance and it could have gone for that 4th consecutive one and claimed the record for themselves over The Beatles PLUS would have broken Westlife's streak at 3 meaning they would also still claim the record for most consecutive #1s from first single with 6.

This is all very what if obviously it may have fallen flat on it's arse we will never know but I think 1999 Spice Girls still had a great chance of doing great things sales wise, if they tacked on another nice ballad alongside the Christmas track release from the album for the Xmas #1 slot they would have been hot contenders.

Now really fantasising on the minimal effort needed for promotion but a great way to boost their discography and keep them out there just imagine

1. Spice (Nov 1996)

2. Spiceworld (Nov 1997)

3. Live Spice or Back In Britain: Live Album (Sept 1998)

4. Christmas In Spiceworld or Spice Up Your Christmas: Xmas Album (Last week or First week Dec 1999)

5. Forever (Nov 2000)

- Release NGUOTGT / We are family (Studio version) in September week or two before final Wembley gigs to promote Live album, one can be a tour montage video, one can be a animated video or a career montage ala IYWHSF. Promotion would be the final dates maybe a couple of UK performances like National Lottery / TOTP. No pressure for #1 as Stop missed it and Viva Forever got them it.

- Goodbye released in Dec 1998 same as before

- Spice up your Christmas (imaginary name to an upbeat fun classic sounding Xmas song, bells choir the lot) / Memories (imaginary name to a magical Spice girls ballad unheard not on an album or maybe Time goes by since they love it so much) released xmas #1 week (kicks Westlife's which means they dare not go up against Forever and release a week later or earlier and Forever is there NUMBER ONE)

 I have too much time on my hands.

^ If only this could have happened! I do wonder if they'd have still had the power for a Christmas #1 in 1999.

New Spotify stream count for Christmas Wrapping is 1,624,365. That's an increase of 158,956!

Here are quite a lot of figures I've collected over the years for it:

26th November 2017 - total: 223,667

23rd December 2017 - total: 254,170

5th November 2018 - total: 275,224

20th December 2018 - total: 307,537

9th March 2019 - total: 332,001

23rd June 2019 - total: 335,899

14th September 2020 - total: 442,123

27th December 2020 - total: 560,615

24th March 2021 - total: 572,133

23rd July 2021 - total: 577,670

23rd December 2021 - total: 980,277

24th December 2021 - total: 1,044,738

25th December 2021 - total: 1,123,716 (appeared at #9 in their Popular Top 10)

26th December 2021 - total: 1,136,632 (moved up to #8 in their Popular Top 10 - apparently it stayed within their Top 10 until 11th January 2022)

1st January 2022 - total: 1,170,214

8th January 2022 - total: 1,186,843

22nd May 2022 - total: 1,197,966

30th October 2022 - total: 1,209,124

20th November 2022 - total: 1,220,673

4th December 2022 - daily: 3,957 / total: 1,251,673

5th December 2022 - daily: 62,736 / total: 1,314,409

6th December 2022 - daily: 151,000 / total: 1,465,409

7th December 2022 - daily: 158,956 / total: 1,624,365

It performed decently in December 2021 because of a playlist it was included in then (Navidad 2021 - aimed at Spanish speaking countries, but not an official Spotify playlist). Its best daily figure during Christmas 2021 was 78,978 on Christmas Day. That playlist only has 40k likes, a small following compared to Christmas Pop with 1.88m. Christmas Pop is an official Spotify playlist so will get way more exposure.

Assuming nothing goes wrong like Spotify deciding to randomly remove Christmas Wrapping from the playlist, or push it way down the playlist... it could be on course to have incredible daily figures much close to Christmas, and Christmas Day itself! My prediction would be that once Christmas 2022 is over, it'll have exceeded 5 million total plays on Spotify. :o

It might be worth us having a Christmas Wrapping download day on the 23rd December. That is the chart week Christmas day is where streams will be huge. Cant hurt to give it a few more sales whatever happens.

Christmas wrapping is up to #8 on their top 10 most popular songs on Spotify.

Couldn't hurt! Also love to see it entering the Top 10... hopefully Top 5 tomorrow.

4th December 2022 - daily: 3,957 / total: 1,251,673

5th December 2022 - daily: 62,736 / total: 1,314,409

6th December 2022 - daily: 151,000 / total: 1,465,409

8th December 2022 - daily: 162,481 / total: 1,786,846

Hopefully even higher streams on today's update with it being in their top 10 yesterday and it being Friday streams. Doesn't hurt the UK was very frosty and some snow to make it feel more like Christmas too.

Christmas Wrapping on Spotify

4th December 2022 - daily: 3,957 / total: 1,251,673

5th December 2022 - daily: 62,736 / total: 1,314,409

6th December 2022 - daily: 151,000 / total: 1,465,409

7th December 2022 - daily: 158,956 / total: 1,624,365

8th December 2022 - daily: 162,481 / total: 1,786,846

9th December 2022 - daily: 164,211 / total: 1,951,057

Another new daily best figure!

It now has a higher streaming play count than Sleigh Ride. The B Side version has 1,628,305 streams and the Jack Frost OST Edit version has 287,033 streams, combined that is 1,915,338.

Christmas Wrapping has also overtaken Goodbye (Radio Edit)'s total of 1,848,613. So technically the B Side has now outdone the A Side, at least the version that appeared on the single! Although obviously the album version of Goodbye has considerably more streams - it's currently on 16,624,471. The single version has 228,800... so overall Goodbye is on 18,701,884.

Interesting to see what todays update for Christmas wrapping will be given it will be Saturdays streams. The Christmas songs seem to get a big boost come the weekend.
I do love all the free promo they get over xmas. 2 become 1 is doing very well on the TV airplay chart as usual too.

That 1998 Top of the Pops episode will be a nice trip down memory lane!

Christmas Wrapping was streamed 179k times yesterday

4th December 2022 - daily: 3,957 / total: 1,251,673

5th December 2022 - daily: 62,736 / total: 1,314,409

6th December 2022 - daily: 151,000 / total: 1,465,409

7th December 2022 - daily: 158,956 / total: 1,624,365

8th December 2022 - daily: 162,481 / total: 1,786,846

9th December 2022 - daily: 164,211 / total: 1,951,057

10th December 2022 - daily: 179,449 / total: 2,130,506

(By the way these dates are the day the streams occurred, they're not the dates of the reveal! For instance 179,449 was revealed on 11th December but the streams happened on 10th December, so that's the date I've given to it)

So it's exceeded 2 million streams in total :cheer:

It's still stuck in 8th place in their Top 10 Popular list. As suggested to me by Sammy it seems that the Popular list is based on the total plays over the past month. So at this stage Christmas Wrapping is playing catch up. It's achieved over 900,000 streams over the past month but Viva Forever and WDYTYA are 1m+.

I think Christmas Wrapping might move up to 6th in the next update (or possibly the update after that) and leap ahead of those two singles. I'm predicting it won't show up in their Top 5 until 15th December, and it may move up to 2nd place ahead of Stop by the 19th. It definitely won't move ahead of Wannabe though.

Christmas Wrapping has indeed moved up to #6 on their most popular top 10 on Spotify. Top 5 would give it a lot more visibility so will be good when that happens in the next couple of days.
Interesting, thanks for sharing. Lets hope it picks up some likes to it!

The gays will love that playlist if they find out about it. No Ed or Slade to 'ruin' it for them haha

Its total has very nearly doubled what it was on at the beginning of this month!

Christmas Wrapping has moved up to #5 on their top 10 most popular songs on Spotify. That will give it a lot more visibility and hopefully help bring in more streams.

:cheer: Love to see it! Fingers crossed it does pick up lots of streams from people who will now be able to see it prominently on the Spice Girls Spotify home page.
