Arlo Parks wouldn't be eligible, it's for artists that have not reached the top 20 with an album or single

That’s a bit of a rule change. Adele, Jessie J and Emeli Sande had all had top 10 singles before they won. Emeli Sande especially had had a no.2 hit 6 months earlier.

I think that came with the change from Breakthrough to Rising Star

Has there been any indication as to whether they'll bring back International Group? Think its highly unfair they kept int'l male and female but excluded people from the chance of a Brit because they're not a solo aritst

I am happy to see Rina being nominated here but I have to wonder if it's just something they've done as a token move following her campaign to be eligible for these awards - it feels a bit late to be calling her a Rising Star for this year, she's been around for a while now!

I'm not a huge fan of her but she'd probably be my pick out of the 3 based on potential for me being a fan of her future work, between her and Pa Salieu anyway (but he already won the Sound of... so Rina can have this one x)

"Other A-listers, including Paul McCartney, Little Mix, The 1975, Biffy Clyro and AJ Tracey, are also expected to feature heavily among the nominees"

I wonder if that's an insider, or just speculation? Though I guess all of them would be expected, other than Sir Paul! I'd love him to be nominated

^It's The Sun, so of course it's just speculation :D

I see. Well, I know it’s pedantic, but in that case I wish they wouldn’t refer to acts that have ‘won this award previously’ when reporting as it’s technically a different award.

How I hope Jack Garratt would get a nomination for something. But I don’t see it.

when are the nominations announced? is it known?

I don't think it is a different award? It was just a name change.

Personally I find gendered awards quite bothersome, why do we need best male and best female actors, singers etc. It’s kind of archaic and really absurd actually, The Grammys had this problem and fix it

Sam made an statement on the decision

And now different criteria too.

It’s clearly not as ‘absurd’ as you’re making out, if it were then it wouldn’t have ever existed. I do agree that it needs updating to fit the modern world and I’d like to see more genre awards (just more awards in general) but I can’t help but feel you’re only calling it absurd because Sam Smith doesn’t fit the current criteria and is unlikely to be nominated for any of the other awards either.

The unlikelihood... Sam is predicted to show up in AOTY, even the sun article indicated that

Love Goes is an certified Gold along with little Mix, Kylie M recent albums and had hits various hits on the album

I guess it has been a slow year for albums.
Well.. you can thank the pandemic for that, when Future Nostalgia is the ONLY 2020 album to be certified platinum in the UK, that when you pretty much come to the realization how the pandemic has really effected the music industry
