Oh I don't know she had moments of brilliance in I want you back and Feels so good and then strong singles in Word up and Tell me (and Hotter would have been another one), yet none of them really sold at mass appeal... not saying they weren't hits I mean silver for IWYB is very decent but isn't it actually the lowest selling #1 for instance? I think the public just weren't here for her anyway for various reasons, one being that they had the impression she was this 'bitch' who pushed Geri out of the band, two being systematic racism.

Nice try it had nothing to do with that, she performed on Graham Norton's new years Eve special.

SEB wasn't even in the midweek top 100 on the Monday following her time on the Masked singer a week last Saturday. She shot to number 1 on itunes following her new years eve slot on Graham Norton and sales were so low last week it caused a big jump and as new years was the last charting day it carried through to the Friday of this charting week.

 

I don't know why you are all desperate to prove the masked singer does anything bar be a paycheck for celebs, probably just because I said it.

 

When discussing the impact of masked singer the majority was talking about enlarging the profile. Mel B has been in the press and on radio since she was on the program.

 

Look what one performance on GN has done for Sophie , the same could happen on the masked singer!!

 

Also look what strictly did for Sophies career a few years ago!! it built it up again ! Same for Louise.

 

That is why these stars participate.

I think everyone is bored of the argument now Sammy, you've made your point several times. I agree though that it was disingenuous to put it that way, shame really, she is very talented.

 

Ps by being so disparaging towards Martine in this post you are in fact saying the same about Mel. Martine has had lots of career highs including having a triple platinum album, a huge platinum #1 single, a main role in one of the most successful rom com movies of all time, being one of the most well known soap characters in one of the most successful soaps ever and won a Laurence Olivier award for her main role in a musical. Don't downplay her success just because she isn't one of the most high profile celebs out there.

Of course an argument is boring when you know you were on the wrong side of it. I merely responded to the ridiculous notion that Black Velvet going to #9 on itunes (by an artist not on the show) in any way shows that the Masked singer has any real benefit to anyone's career.

 

I mean you can say the arguments boring yet it was you who wrongly claimed it had enhanced SEB chart position and Vibe now disingenuously trying to make out Black Velvet proves the show has impact.

 

Maybe if you both stopped trying to make some stupid point and in turn posting dubious if not false things then there would be no argument.

 

As for Martine, she has done some great things in her career but yes like the solo Spice girls careers (and yes Emma too before someone jumps in saying Emma is a flop too like we don't all know that) now she is completely niche. She isn't doing any of those things you listed recently. I'm under no elusion that as solo artists at this point the Spice Girls are c-list at best. They live off being former spice girls for press and attention and they sell or cater to an incredibly small but rabid fan base. That's not a diss that's just how it is and admitting that makes me no less of a fan or hating on any of them. I can acknowledge the small successes they have solo wise whilst being totally aware just how small and insignificant those success usually are.

Sorry if I’ve overlooked this but I don’t think anyone has ever said “you’re wrong” to you in this discussion Sammy, they just have a different point of view about how useful the impact of this series is for careers. The original point, that a few people think that The Masked Singer would be more suited to Melanie C than I’m a Celeb... that can’t really be right or wrong, because it’s an opinion.

 

Writing things like “Of course an argument is boring when you know you were on the wrong side of it.” / “It's ok to admit you were wrong” and “I swear sometimes you all just like to argue because you hate to admit Im right.” is only going to get people’s backs up & I know you wouldn’t appreciate it at all if anyone said this to you either. Which is clear from this: “ I'm just bored of stating my opinion and even a mod breaking their neck to try and make out my opinion is wrong”. You can’t have it both ways!

 

I don’t believe that this conversation reflects on Spiceboy’s ability to be a mod. He’s a great mod and I’m very happy with his work. Being a mod doesn’t mean that Spiceboy has to be impartial in conversations!

 

No doubt we all think different things on a large number of Spice related topics, and that’s totally fine (or should be totally fine), but this particular subject leads to arguments and ill feeling, unfortunately... so I really think we need to move on now. Points have been stated and then reiterated a few times now.

Because Jay you might gather from this last page that if posters want to make this about whose opinion seems to be making the most sense and seemingly in line with what is happening then I'm happy to either say I'm wrong or others to do so. However if we are doing that then maybe when I disprove people's reaching to make a point they might have the grace to say yes sorry you were right than 'I'm over this argument' as you say you can't have it both ways.

If next Saturday someone huge is unveiled and their catalogue shoots to the top of itunes and their streaming flies up and there is a bidding war for that artists for loads of stuff I'll happily say I was wrong.

The show is still on early stage, saying the show has no impact at all is not right. I wish the performances were longer though, a bit too short but looks like it's difficult for some contestants wearing those costumes. I saw SEB was trending immediately during her performance, some people were very upset she was out, the gays. A week later she performed on Graham's. Mel on the other hand, not trending at all even after the reveal, it were still Holly Willoughby and Olivia Colman, I didn't know why. It's nice though, she sounded good but the dance was the insult to the song lol.

 

Let's see how things go for the winner this season, I can see Robin is winning. The very brief moment after the reveal, they will get the good buzz, it depends on them how to monetize from that but it will be difficult for time like this.
