Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans both battled to give Great Britain a 2-1 win over France in their Davis Cup tie.

British number one Norrie claimed a gutsy 6-2 7-6 (10-8) win over Arthur Rinderknech to seal the best-of-three tie in Innsbruck, Austria.

Evans had earlier beat Adrian Mannarino 7-5 6-4 in a high-quality encounter.

However, Rinderknech and Nicolas Mahut claimed a consolation 6-1 6-4 win over Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in the doubles rubber.

The tie is Great Britain's first in Group C, with the top teams from each group and the two best runners-up qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Great Britain will be guaranteed qualification as group winners if they beat the Czech Republic on Sunday.

Britain's former world number four Johanna Konta has announced her retirement from professional tennis.

Konta, 30, reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2017 - the first British woman to achieve the feat in 39 years.

She also made the last four at the 2016 Australian Open and the 2019 French Open, while her best result at the US Open was a quarter-final run in 2019.

A bit of a shame she never lived up to her initial promise. Unfortunate with some injuries but she was also terrible at the media game and didn't have the mentality to win the big matches. A bit of a quitter imo but if it's best for her then fair enough.

Great Britain and Serbia have been awarded wildcards into next year's Davis Cup Finals, which are likely to be spread over two continents.

Abu Dhabi is a front runner to host the quarter-finals onwards, with group ties played in four different cities.

European cities are likely to host those, with players set to cross at least three time zones mid-Finals.

Andy Murray has split with long-time coach Jamie Delgado.

Murray, 34, brought Delgado into his team during the 2016 season when he won a second Wimbledon title and finished the year as the world number one.

Former British Davis Cup player Delgado, 44, took over as full-time coach when Ivan Lendl stopped working with Murray in late 2017.

Australian Open organisers are still unsure if defending men's champion Novak Djokovic will play at next month's Grand Slam.

Serbia's Djokovic, 34, has not spoken publicly about his vaccination status.

All players and staff at the Australian Open must be vaccinated or have a medical exemption granted by an independent panel of experts.

"If Novak shows up, he'll be vaccinated or have a medical exemption," said tournament director Craig Tiley.

That's interesting - is this just speculation or have other tennis players been more open about the fact they've been vaccinated? I suppose it's only his own loss if it does turn out he can't participate.
For sure he'll get an exemption, Aus Open are not gonna deny the biggest draw entry to the tournament particularly when he's massive favourite to break the record of major wins.
