January 26, 20214 yr I suppose that's a fairly solid selection actually! 'That's The Truth' is my absolute fave of theirs but I don't suppose that stands a chance of winning. If not, I wouldn't mind an 'Obviously' or 'All About You' win.

Tonight is The Night. When I first heard this properly (listening through for this rate, oops x) I was pleasantly surprised by it as I wasn't a big fan of 'Happiness'. This is definitely more anthemic though and true to McFly. Good bop! At #9 is the final single from their 'Above the Noise' album, That's the Truth. I'm trying to think what went wrong for this release coz the single literally went 67-35-OUT... like huh?! What was the cause for that? Especially so far into the download era where songs would gather momentum and peak later in the week and then gradually fall away. It's so weird it climbed to it's peak on the 2nd week of impact and fell completely out of the top 75? Such a good song though! Very underrated so I'm glad to see it has somewhat of a fanbase here on Buzzjack!
January 27, 20214 yr that top 8 is a perfect top 8 - Tonight is The Night and That's The Truth were the two weakest in the top 10 *.* Not one good song being eliminated yet. I stan.

Very underrated so I'm glad to see it has somewhat of a fanbase here on Buzzjack! I think from memory... It charted at #67 due to being performed somewhere, and then peaked at #35 the following week with its physical release. Around that time I guess it was impossible for them to get anywhere with a post-album single, which is unfortunate. :(
January 27, 20214 yr Author 08| TRANSYLVANIA [AVG. 8.28] Highest: M4ngo Ho Ho & Jason (11) Lowest: Chapman & Spiceboy (04) VRZC6QPrAS8 --- 07| STAR GIRL [AVG. 8.46] Highest: ThePensmith (10) Lowest: Nina West & Spiceboy (06) w9tO3H_4sjo At #8 we have Transylvania which was the double A-Side to 'Baby's Coming Back'. As I briefly said in that commentary, had they pushed 'Transylvania' more as the actual single and focused less on BCB, I don't think it'd have fallen quite as dramatically as it did (a then record drop of 1-20). It's just so fun and very different not only for them, but for pop in general. I find it incredibly underrated across the board tbh. So refreshing to hear Dougie take lead vocals too! Next, we have Star Girl. This seems to have gone on to become somewhat of a "cult" classic. I feel like it's fondly remembered of and would probably argue it's in their top 3 signature hits! Did Chris Moyles have something to do with this song way back when at some point? I seem to remember him trying to get it charting again or something, idk. But it's a great song and insanely catchy!
January 27, 20214 yr I don't really recall 'Tranyslvania'. I love 'Star Girl' so much more now than I did back then. I actually go back to it pretty regularly!
January 27, 20214 yr Oops, just catching up with this. 'Room On The Third Floor' should have been top ten. It's always sounded more Oasis inspired than the Beatles, especially the guitar riffs. 'Tonight Is The Night' is very Beatles-esque though and easily the best song on the new album, I'd already put it right up there with their other essentials *.* 'That's The Truth', as Aly said, suffered from being a post-album single which was never going to do massively well, although #35 was still a huge under-performance given their sizeable fanbase and that there were two physicals IIRC. 'Transylvania' is arguably my favourite McFly song  so although I'm sad not to see it higher, I'm happy that it's top ten! 'Star Girl' is another complete bop and it was always a pleasure to hear Chris Moyles playing it on Radio 1 every Friday afternoon :D At this point I'm thinking the top 6 will look something like: 6 The Heart Never Lies 5 Love Is Easy 4 Shine A Light 3 Obviously 2 Five Colours 1 All About You Though I'd be happy for any of those Top 3 to win!
January 27, 20214 yr I think my top 5 songs from them have all made the top 7 here *.* Chris Moyles used to play 'Star Girl' a lot yes! Iirc he played it every Friday and referred to it as 'McFlyday', ikonik tbh
January 28, 20214 yr Author 06| THE HEART NEVER LIES [AVG. 8.5] Highest: MFPG (11) Lowest: Spiceboy (05); Chapman (05.5) NgyuCTVvya4 --- 05| LOVE IS EASY [AVG. 8.67] Highest: Wall, Tafty, MFPG & M4ngo Ho Ho (10) Lowest: Slade (05) APlPjz9Ry84 At #6 we have the single that was the lead for their first Greatest Hits Collection, the stunning The Heart Never Lies. It's a big, pop rock power ballad that really drives home the emotion and really impacts hard. I feel like they are really underrated for their powerful ballads coz this and 'Not Alone' are top 5 McFly for me. It's where they excel and I'd have loved to have heard more! Into the top 5 and we kick it off with their last, genuinely big hit. Love Is Easy went on to be a top 10 hit for them and managed 4 weeks top 40, but 10 in the top 75. It's such a great, irresistably catchy pop song! Sometimes simplicity is key and it most definitely worked in their favour here. The ukulele driven melody is crazy! One of my favourites and I'm so happy it came so far into their career, proving that they most certainly still have it! (Saying that though it was 8 years ago now! WHAT!!!!)
January 28, 20214 yr Both good songs that I don't go back to anywhere near as often as I should (read as: ever)
January 28, 20214 yr Both songs are stunning tbh. I don't go back to them enough either, especially 'Love Is Easy' with its irresistibly catchy melody. Love the video too
January 28, 20214 yr Author 04| FIVE COLOURS IN HER HAIR [AVG. 9.07] Highest: Cameron (11) Lowest: Tafty & Spiceboy (07) h76uVRSJ5bc --- 03| SHINE A LIGHT (FEAT. TAIO CRUZ) [AVG. 9.21] Highest: Rossco (11) Lowest: Tawdry Hepburn (07) r6GzjAPSut4 As we head into the top 4 we say goodbye to the song that started it all for them! Five Colours In Her Hair was a massive #1 hit for the group. Definitely one of their signature hit singles. I'm not *huge* on it personally, but I completely got why it was such a popular song. The Beach Boys-esque style mixed with a blend of the rock/pop that Busted were giving at the time... it was obviously a winning formula for them! Insanely catchy, but irritatingly so for me, personally aha. Top 3 and the first to drop is their collaboration with then mega hit maker Taio Cruz (remember him!!?). Shine A Light is a late 00's/early 10's, electro pop-rock mid-tempo anthem. This song pops off live SO MUCH. My highlight of their setlists! It's just an amazing atmosphere each and every time, from the opening riff to the sing-along chorus and everyone just having a great time whenever this is performed. Amazing stuff.
January 28, 20214 yr Brilliant top 2! I don't really mind what wins. I love '5 Colours', however 'Shine a Light' is a bit of a nothingy song to me.
January 28, 20214 yr And we have an all great top 4 :cheeseblock: 'Shine A Light' is pretty comfortably my fave from them, wasn't really sure how mainstream an opinion that was though so I'll take it being 3rd! 'Obviously' to win pls out of the remaining two (I'd rank 3 & 4 ahead of both of them but still a good top 2 x).
January 28, 20214 yr Author So who has won? All About You vs Obviously 02| ALL ABOUT YOU [AVG. 9.96] Highest: Wall, Chapman & Slade (11) Lowest: Cameron (08.5) myJhPrjXhQ4 --- W I N N E R | OBVIOUSLY [AVG. 10.17] Highest: Tafty, Nina West, ThePensmith & Spiceboy (11) Lowest: MFPG (09); Jason (09.5) JiyF3K7hFqM So there you have it All About You ends up as our runner-up! A fantastic runner-up nonetheless! Much like 'Love Is Easy', simplicity was key for this song as it STORMED it's way to #1 and I *think* it's their biggest selling single as it raised a lot for charity Red Nose Day/Comic Relief. It was recently uncovered that this song was indeed based on Tom's wife and recent Queen of the Castle, Giovanna Fletcher. It's a lovely song and the video is pretty funny and good too! A REAL mid-00's throwback to "guess the celebrities!" aha. and the WINNER is Obviously. I think this has always been my favourite McFly song. It just hits and the chorus and hook is very, very catchy! Another song that really translates well, live. This was their 2nd UK #1 single and I think, although it's won this rate, I feel like amongst the general public 'All About You', 'Shine A Light', '5 Colours In Her Hair' & 'Star Girl' are more fondly remembered. But I get the feeling that as soon as they remember this song exists, people will say it's one of their faves. A very worthy winner and that average is great! Literally if you voted and your name isn't there, you gave it a 10.
