January 31, 20214 yr That would be amazing, Piers! Evidently solo single inclusions is proving to be a bit controversial here, but I honestly don't think it would be the worst idea, so long as it didn't take up much longer than 5 or 6 minutes of the set. When You're Gone would go down incredibly well at Glastonbury, plus it does give them the opportunity to bring on special guests without them being shoehorned into Spice Girls group songs that they weren't a part of. Lol. Yeah. I mean. I'd agree that a crowd might be a bit lost with Forever album tracks, but several of their solo songs really aren't obscurities. At the very least, Never Be The Same Again and It's Raining Men were among the top 20 best selling songs of their year. If Wikipedia is to be believed, I Want You Back was the first time a female rapper hit #1 in the UK. There seems to be some significance to that. I just land at this...when I saw Fleetwood Mac, they did their solo hits. As I mentioned earlier, when I saw The Rolling Stones, they did their solo hits. So. To me, if the option is to fill up a good chunk of the setlist with album tracks that the girls may or may not remember the lyrics to...or pull from a few of the eight solo number ones, why be shy about going for the hits? But. I'll concede this. I'm basing all this on what I perceive the public remembers. Since I Turn To You was a big UK hit at the time, I assume people my age would remember it. Do they not? I get that some hit songs kinda get obscured over time. My guess was that When You're Gone would be better known to the masses than, say, Something Kinda Funny. If that's wrong, maybe they shouldn't do solo stuff.
January 31, 20214 yr Author Oh I didn't even think of When you're gone, that would be very popular with the Glastonbury crowd for sure! Could even be done as a Mel C / Mel B duet too if they weren't able to get Bryan Adams... I mean when you're gone is just as big and bigger than many of their group songs. I love your setlist Piers, except for Pure Shores I think that would sound awful sung by that many people lol.

February 1, 20214 yr Author People really do live in the clouds. They just performed to 700k of their own fans and weren't bringing out solo songs or b sides or Forever album cuts. They certainly wouldn't be straying from the first 2 albums and the Forever singles. You just said it yourself 700k of their own fans, who would know their album material. I think the idea of solo tracks such as It's raining men, Never be the same again, What took you so long, when you're gone would go down very well. If they were able to get the likes of Bryan Adams and Missy Elliot to perform as special guests then those two duets would surely go down very well too (especially Bryan Adams and When you're gone with the Glastonbury crowd!).
February 1, 20214 yr Author I had a bit of a play around with Pier's set list and thought this could work quite well. Put some of the more popular album tracks in and also included the Pepsi singles as I think would work well for that crowd and may be more familiar being used on adverts... Also moved Stop towards the end, feel like it was perfect towards the end on tour it's such a popular sing along song it works for the everybody is drunk and singing along time. Also thought if they included Tin Tin Out then What I am could be quite recognisable, it was a big hit and it's a cover of an already popular song. I'd have just It's raining men from Geri though I don't think Look at me would work as a group track at all also It's raining men another big song on it's own. Absolutely love the idea of NBTSA as a group track with Missy doing the rap that would be SUCH a moment. 1. Spice up your life 2. Who do you think you are? 3. Say you’ll be there 4. When you’re gone (Melanie C / Bryan Adams duet) 5. What I am (Emma Bunton / Tin, Tin Out duet) 6. Too much 7. Mama 8. Step to me 9. Holler (with Girl Power rap) 10. I want you back (Mel B / Missy Elliot duet) 11. Never be the same again (full group with Missy Elliot doing rap) 12. 2 become 1 (with Adele - she can do one of Melanie C's verses) 13. Move over 14. Never give up on the good times 15. It’s raining men (full group performance) 16. Love thing 17. Goodbye 18. Stop 19. Viva forever 20. Wannabe PS if Victoria were involved I would LOVE for them to do the FIERCE dancing that the 2 Mel's did for Holler in SW2019 and to see Victoria doing it too because she can properly dance too would be awesome! February 1, 20214 yr I like the discourse and some of the ideas here. Certainly Brian and Missy making appearences would be epic, as would other girl bands (girl power!) but ultimately, I would rather not have *any* solos or covers. Please. Let this be group-focus. It's the bloody Spice Girls. AT GLASTO. Focus on that!
February 1, 20214 yr Oh. I forgot to give my Encore: 21. Emma and Geri recreate their 1999 chart battle by performing Lift Me Up and What I Am...at the same time. 22. Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins takes the stage and performs all his spoken word bits to a beat. 23. Geri gives a camping tutorial. 24. Special appearance by Sophie Ellis Bextor who dedicates a performance of Groovejet to "someone who couldn't be here tonight" 25. Special appearance by Westlife...who take a seat on barstools on the stage. They don't sing. The girls just stand uncomfortably close over them and angrily sing Voodoo at them. Lights out.
February 1, 20214 yr Can people really see Geri performing it's raining men anymore, Glastonbury or anywhere? Let alone Mel C performing other girls solo songs with them? When you're gone would be nice for Bryan Adams set at Glastonbury and Mel C (or probably a bigger name) could hop up on stage and perform it with him.
February 1, 20214 yr Author Oh. I forgot to give my Encore: 24. Special appearance by Sophie Ellis Bextor who dedicates a performance of Groovejet to "someone who couldn't be here tonight" Lights out. This one made me LOL!

They certainly wouldn't be straying from the first 2 albums and the Forever singles. Its you living in the clouds! The general public will know the big solo hits more than album tracks. The reason they didn't perform solo hits last time was not through fear of the audience not knowing them 👀
February 1, 20214 yr The only way I could be excited about solo songs being performed is if the whole group does them in a medley. That's it. Any proper solo moments are a waste of time in what would probably be their biggest televised performance since the Olympics. In a music festival full of non-Spice fans, most of which are younger generations who might have never even heard the solos in the first place... The group is the group. Yes the solos are part of their legacy but you would be very surprised if anyone beyond their fans care about the solos enough to warrant them performing any of them at a place like Glasto. It's just not viable lol

Or an album track from the 2nd biggest selling girl group album ever. It's not like the Spice Girls perform and tour every year so it would be a nice change up. Aside from 700k people the only time anyone has seen the Spice Girls perform in the last 13 years is for 5 minutes at the Olympics and it left everyone gagging for more. No casual fan, festival goer or general public is going to want to see Mel C or Geri perform solo songs when it is probably a once I a lifetime chance to actually see the Spice Girls perform and you could see them perform Love Thing, IYCD, NGUOTGT, Move over and so on.
February 1, 20214 yr Melanie C has performed at IOW festival and many festivals abroad and always went over very well. And no festival goers do not want to hear number 1 hits they want to hear ‘the lady is a vamp’. Glastonbury is not a teeny bop festival btw it is full of all ages. It is not like reading festival. February 1, 20214 yr I cant imagine Glastonbury booking the group for them to then sing solo stuff, its different in a group concert that is created solely for the fanbase. In saying that I think some of their early solo singles would go down well particularly I Turn to You, NBTSA, Mi Chico Latino, Its Raining Men and What Took You So Long.
February 1, 20214 yr Id like them as a group to pick 1 solo songs from each and perform the songs as a group which would be 4 songs, or just do all the big hits and couple of album tracks from spice and spice world and each member perform their biggest solo hit.

Exactly. And even as a fan of (some) of their solo stuff, I am not here for any solo moments unless they are confined to a quick medley and performed by them all. Even then, I find it a bit of a meh idea to be honest with you. I am sure Mel C could secure a slot in a smaller tent in the same year as well, it would make absolute sense for her to use that opportunity for her advantage. Performing a solo song as part of the group set list?... Spice Girls through & through thank you!
February 1, 20214 yr Victoria or Geri would never do a solo. I don't even think Emma would want to either. I'd do like this maybe - 1. Spice Up Your Life 2. If U Can't Dance 3. Love Thing 4. Too Much 5. Let Love Lead The Way 6. Mama 7. Never Give Up On The Good Times 8. I Want You Back - Mel B 9. Holler 10. Move Over 11. I Turn To You - Mel C 12. Who Do You Think You Are 13. Say You'll Be There 14. Viva Forever 15. 2 Become 1 16. Goodbye Encore - 17. Stop 18. Wannabe
February 1, 20214 yr Why on earth would Mel C or Victoria want to sing It's raining men or WTYSL? The thought of them performing solo songs as a group is even more bizarre to me. Saying a song is a number 1 hit so more known isn't true. I mean let's take ITTY, NS the album and it's solo sales add up to less than half the copies Spice sold in the UK. There was a whole generation playing those album tracks endlessly. Not to mention the 2nd album songs where in the film which has a cult following now. Or that Love Thing and the other album tracks were played at Wembley in 98 and broadcast throughout the world. Istanbul was shown in the UK on Christmas or boxing day I forget which. SW98 live broadcast was a sky box office event it was that big. Even Christmas in Spiceworld was aired on sky 1. Those album tracks are a massive part of a generations childhood they aren't any ordinary album tracks.
February 1, 20214 yr I totally agree. No, Geri's Mi Chico Latino or Mel C's Never Be The Same Again arent as well remembered by the non-Spice fans as most assume here and certainly a Glasto crowd which is composed of mainly non-Spice fans, would want to experience. Focus on the hits and a few well know album tracks that lend themselves well to a festival setting. My picks for the set list would be (in no particular order) Hits/Singles Spice Up Your Life Wannabe 2 Become 1 Too Much Who Do You Think You Are Stop Say You'll Be There Holler Viva Forever (the last ballad of the night, MAKE IT A MOMENT GIRLS!) Goodbye Yes, no Mama, LLLTW or Headlines. Not just that they are substandard in their quality and the other ballads deserve the focus, but also because it is a FESTIVAL setting and thus the less focus on ballads the better in my opinion. Have the 4 main ballads performed and leave it at that! Festival goers want to party, and 7 ballads wouldn't necessarily help with that ah Album tracks Love Thing (Istanbul mix or similar!) Something Kinda Funny/Saturday Night Divas (this was a rumour for the 2019 tour and I think it would be great!) If You Cant Dance (new mix) Never Give Up On The Good Times (new mix, somewhere between the Christmas in Spiceworld mix and 2019 tour mix) Move Over Step To Me Do It (urgh... but whatever) If You Wanna Have Some Fun/Wasting My Time medley And leave it at that... I think for an afternoon-legends slot that would be enough. If they were to do an evening slot, I would certainly include more of Forever and Spiceworld. Maybe even Lady is a Vamp and Naked in there, as well as a Tell Me Why mix. B-)
February 1, 20214 yr Interesting reading this thread as a Glastonbury goer but non Spice Girls fan. I'm fully expecting them to take the Sunday afternoon legends slot at some point in the next few years. That's basically used as a massive 75 minute sing-a-long so they would do whatever most people are likely to know, I couldn't imagine them doing it and then not including something like Mama!
