And I feel like I've been saying for years that new hit music is taking up less and less of the Spotify demographic and so inevitably, more and more older songs are just gonna creep higher up.

I think this is true especially as this pandemic has pushed an older generation to streaming tv, music and generally more online activities.

if Mr Brightside is just going to be top 40 eternally now then perhaps Spotify should do a separate chart for old songs to encourage newer music, this would also help newer songs during December from people who just stick the Top 50 playlist on.
It doesn't make a difference to them financially whether it's older or newer songs being streamed so I don't really see why they'd do that. Especially as they have their curated playlists to promote new(er) music already.
