Don't play with me, it just hurts me

| 16 // Plastic Doll // 6.52

We can call this the lowest ranked main album track, but does it deserve that title? Produced by Bloodpop and Skrillex, the song opens up Gaga (quite literally) and explores the demons that haunt her. Featuring synthetic drum snaps and a swooping falsetto, Gaga explores anti-feminism as she becomes a doll, a play thing, for others to control. There are parallels with her celebrity status as well as her womanhood, as she sings of being dehumanized as an artist. On Spotify she states "Pop culture objectifies artists by attributing labels and grouping us into categories. As a result of this, society expects us to perform like the archetypes we've created by stealing our narrative from us and attempting to re-write it. Many of us know what's going on. I am aware, I am a plastic doll. Some people in the world believe I belong to them in a box to play with. It hurts."

omg poor Plastic Doll not even beating a 40 second interlude

It's not that bad at all imo! I think the heavy metaphors let it down a bit slightly and it's definitely more pop than the dancepop of the rest of the album so doesn't flow as well for me. Joint weakest of the album tracks with 'Fun Tonight' for me but it's still a 7 or 8 out of 10!

I think it's the correct choice for lowest non-interlude song on the main album (sorry Bré!). It's good enough but against the behemoths that feature across the rest of the album, it can't compete for me :( The chorus is great but the verses don't match in my opinion.

Plastic Doll is not a bad song per se, but I think it belongs to worse half of The Fame in terms of her overall quality. The I'm I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E-I p-plastic

part gets me every time though

The worst song of her career.

| 15 // Love Me Right // 7.06

Bonus track out now and the only original track on there that isn't a different version of a song on the main album. 'Love Me Right' is included on the Target exclusive and deluxe international versions of the album. It contrasts much of the rest of the album's sound, as it is less dance orientated and more uptempo R&B. However, it fits on the album through its lyrics that explore Gaga questioning people's judgements of her and whether they can truly love the real her. She opens up about the pain that she has felt and moments where she hasn't known who she is and where she has been able to only cry uncontrollably. It's an incredibly emotive song and one that really sheds light on situations that the artist has found herself in over the past few years. [/i]

A really beautiful and heartfelt song. The lyrics are incredibly brutal and reveal how much pain she has been in over the past few years.

The most poingnant of the lyrics being, for me: "Would you still love me if I gave it all up just to cry?" :snif:

I kind of like LMR, but it's probably this low because it doesn't really fit in sonically.. I think it's more of Joanne or ASIB track? Good listen nevertheless.

Yeah agreed with this. It's a lovely track in its own right but doesn't quite fit with the ~vibe~ of the album.

I will say that now the songs all have an average above 7, so even the songs this low down were still liked by many! It is just getting extremely tough now :gaga:
