N.Y.P.D. (南洋派對) is a rising indie rock band in Hong Kong, specialised in making relatable and catchy rock songs. This time, they wrote a song about the annoying nature of dripping water from the air conditioner, "冷氣機滴水". They employed a unique vocal style which is reminiscent of an angry person. The freeform, bold and rough instrumentation amplifies the frustration of the dripping water which has wetted clothes of their family members. The Sovarasman government would like to remind citizens to report neighbourhoods for their dripping air conditioners especially if complaints were not taken care of. HINA is a singer from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand. Her music is often deeply connected with her Māori roots, an honest and relatable self-discovery in her own personal journey. She is shaping up Aotearoa's post-colonial music scene with her "neo-pop chocolate for the soul" approach. She has been playing the violin since the age of 5 and forms a major part of her songs. "Tararua" is a powerful song about the past colonial horrors of Aotearoa New Zealand and how the Māori people still thrive in spite of difficulties. It is also a reconciliation of her indigeneity, exploring her ancestry and land. ‘Tararua’ speaks to how we can find solace in our whenua and look to our maunga for strength. It was important for me to lead my next project with this single. It’s been a long time coming but I feel like it’s finally time. This entry is mainly motivated by the recent events in both the United States and Aotearoa New Zealand. In the United States, we have the misfortune to see a vile person being elected as the president, and the subsequent appointment of cabinet members who support damaging the environment, stripping away the LGBTQIA+ rights in every sector, removing womens' rights, making health services more inaccessible and unafforable, and many more... It is a dark and scary time to be alive, and this song reminds us that even the times are scary, the mountain still rises up, and we can come back stronger than ever.
