It's only seen as a flop because of it's sales compared to it's previous release. If Girls Aloud had released it in their earlier years (or even later years) it wouldn't have been seen as that as their albums sold between 300-600k at that point. Britney In the Zone sold around 500k and wasn't seen as a flop. It's all relative. P!nk has never had a flop album in the UK.

In Thhe Zone is the greatest pop album OF ALL TIMR. Don"= compare this trash to that. Britney was getting hammered by thr UK press and her sales never recovered.

Thanks Michael for that clearly unbiased and well reasoned assessment.

I do disagree through. Why should she have been dropped? The next two eras were extremely successful and very well received so even with a decline with Try This, it was clear Pink still had potential as an artist.

In The Zone is very well regarded but in the UK it’s success was on par with Try This. It did have a much more successful singles campaign though but it did not translate into massive album sales. Try This sort of peaked right away and fizzled out. I expect most of that was because of the success of the previous album whereas ITZ was more of a sleeper hit album in the UK.

It’s hardly a flop. 500k in todays current market would be considered a major success. Back in the time when the album came out, it didn’t do as well as it’s predecessors but this was probably due to its change in style and move away from pop to darker edge.

I think with In The Zone, it completely bombed initially because of its lead single choice but the huge success of 'Toxic' and 'Everytime' saved the album and kept it buoyant. Whereas Try This did indeed debut high and fizzle out afterwards.

Pretty much - Try This rode off the success off the previous era, while In The Zone had genuine interest in it following Toxic and Everytime. Had they not bungled up the fourth single it would've probably sold even more. Try This was dead in the water following Trouble peaking at #7 and God Is A DJ floundering in at #11.
