I honestly thought nobody was going to work this one out - how wrong I was! Originally a #28 hit in 1997, a remix took it back to the exact same position a few months later. It was ETA’s only charting single - and two weeks too late for the bonus question in Pete’s Dingbats quiz, above is a YouTube link to a track by a Danish act :)

This was the last one I managed to work out!

22. FLY IN HERE, SLOWLY OPEN WEMBLEY

Another tough one, and the second longest anagram in the quiz, that two of you managed to crack!

This is the one I mentioned in the questions thread which the OCC published the title without the section in brackets i.e. just as: ‘Lonely Symphony’, although the bracketed section: ‘(We Will Be Free)’ appears as part of that song’s title in other sources such as The Complete Book Of The British Charts. As I’d spent ages thinking of a decent anagram before realising this, I kept it in the answer here. And it wouldn’t be a Buzzjack quiz series without Eurovision coming up in one of the rounds, is this the first?

Frances Ruffelle starred as Eponine in Les Miserables before representing the UK in the 1994 contest. Her song finished 10th which was something of a disappointment at the time, what would we give for that now though? The publicity of the contest helped the song rebound in the charts to its original entry position. Frances is also Eliza Doolittle’s mum.

And here’s another difficult one! And another one which was originally released one year and returned to the same peak position the next, in this case after appearing in an advert. Well done to the three of you who got this (and at least one of the two before!)

Hi Jim, after you extended the deadline I messaged you the Steps song as an additional answer, did you get it?

Need every point I can get the way this is going 😂

This one proved a bit easier (the repetition of the letters means there weren’t many possibilities) - in fact it was the last anagram standing with 100% correct answers for title and artist, until the final three votes came in.

Another one that was fairly straightforward, with the tenuous use of a ‘Z’ in the anagram.

Riser [Drake - Toosie Slide]

This is one of the titles which was shared by more than one Top 40 hit since 1993, so Sum 41 scored half a point as a valid answer for the artist, but only Normani’s song fully fits the theme!

I've just seen your PM - no I didn't get that earlier, however I'd marked you down half a point on a few answers for the artist not being quite right, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

(That means there are now 270 correct guesses across the 30 anagrams).

Riser [t.a.t.u. - All The Things She Said]

Yet another song which peaked at the same position on original release and subsequent reissue  The Futureheads are probably best known for their cover of Kate Bush’s Hounds Of Love, and this charted either side of it. It’s the last of four songs in this quiz to have had less than five correct guesses!

Bjork [Natalie Imbruglia - Glorious], paulgilb, rio309 [Andreas Johnson - Glorious]

Here’s another title which has been used by different artists and I thought some people might go for Andreas Johnson’s #4 hit. Bjork is very unlucky to drop half a point though, since Natalie Imbruglia’s hit from 2007 fits with one of the key elements of the theme, but not all of them! Sligo is a county and town in Ireland, by the way.

Riser (gave this as the answer to Q28 instead and [Eminem - Lose Yourself] as the answer here, think this is where it was intended but not sure, so I’ve only deducted half a point)

Two people gave the same incorrect answer, which would perhaps be the more plausible title if you didn’t know the Franz Ferdinand song. This was the last hit single of any kind for the band.

Riser [Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie]

Finally, a song which finished as high as 7th in last year’s ‘Buzzjack’s Ultimate UK Number 2 Single’ rate, so I’ll reuse Rollo’s commentary:

7. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor

Released in December 2001,'Murder On The Dancefloor' was a new entry at no.2. It then slipped down the chart for three weeks before returning to no.2. Daniel Bedingfield had lost the battle for the Christmas no.1 to Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman but he returned to the top of the chart to once again deny Sophie Ellis-Bextor her number 1. 'Murder On The Dancefloor' was the most played song in Europe in 2002.

Now on to those bonus questions!

BONUS: Connection between these songs

There were three elements to the theme, worth 2 points each:

a) for 2 points - one of these songs peaked at each position in the Top 30

b) for 2 points - each song reached its peak on two non-consecutive occasions

c) for 2 points - each song had two weeks at its peak in total

Eight of you picked up on at least one of these. A few of you came very close, but only Julian gets all six points for correctly identifying all three!

6 points a), b) and c)

Ansel, PeteFromLeeds

I can already see that I’m going to be 4th but with a big gap behind me. So frustrating!

BONUS: Order of these songs

To find the reason the songs were in this order, you probably needed to have worked out that each song peaked at a different position first. The songs are listed in alphabetical order of peak position in written form - as you might see in Suedehead’s chart commentary for example - although in my case, I even expanded 21-29 into words before putting them in sequence:

1. number eight

2. number eighteen

3. number eleven

4. number fifteen

5. number five

...

19. number twelve

20. number twenty

21. number twenty-eight

22. number twenty-five

...

28. number twenty-three

29. number twenty-two

30. number two

Scoring 4 points, JulianT was once again the only one to work this out – very well done!

rio309 made a guess of “The peak chart position they reached?” – well in one way, it was, so I awarded 2 points for that!

This is how everything ended up - with a huge gap between the top four and the rest, but one outright winner of the round, and it’s the one person who correctly guessed all 30 anagrams - congratulations Chris! :cheer:

Thank you all for taking part, and the effort you put into your answers. As I said in the questions thread, I’ll forfeit my host compensation points for this round as you all deserve them more than I do! Next up in the series is Ansel’s Only Connect quiz, so be sure to look out for that!

That's an extremely impressive achievement from chrissmith276 to get all of them! Congrats to JulianT as well for getting every part of the theme (and Mango and Bjork on their very impressive scores too). I'm pleased with a mid-table finish here, that was hard. Thanks for hosting this!

Robbed! That connection was clearly worth 20 points!

No seriously, very well done Chris (and Bjork and Mango), and thanks very much Jim for a brilliant and awesomely geeky quiz!

Oh wow, higher up than I thought I'd be! Great quiz, definitely a challenge!

On the subject of difficult quizzes, mine will be up pretty soon this evening :)
