Really feel this track got done dirty, no proper video and no performances!?

I moved pretty much all posts regarding To the Beat of My Heart into this separate topic!

 

I agree with spiceboy, it's a pity this single was slightly glossed over. I guess it was too difficult to focus on it with Lisa being unable to be in the UK to promote it and shoot a proper video. Which reminds me, I haven't actually seen the lyric video yet! :lol: I hope this bop gets its time to shine on the forthcoming tour.

Yeah it's a shame we never got a video for this but I'm glad we got one for Heartbreak in this City

To the Beat of My Heart was treated poorly as a single.

On the tour, I hope it gets a good reception.

With covid restrictions now easing (in the UK at the least) they may promote further singles better and im hoping im not naive when i say what the future holds part 2 has to get better promo than the original which got very little and to be fair its done ok considering how little promo it got.

A poster on Popjustice forum just shared the original version by Buzzjack chart campaign favourite Mollie King. Very summery, tropical house. Steps improved it imo:

For some reason it had never crossed my mind that the production on Mollie’s original would differ significantly to the Steps version, or that there’d be lyrical differences. Considering how Hair Down sounds I assumed that her To the Beat of My Heart would essentially be the same as Steps’. I think had Mollie released this in 2017 it would have been a lot better received than Hair Down, because it sounds contemporary and straight forward - and the loud quirkiness of Hair Down was very divisive, and kind of obvious on arrival that it wouldn’t chart. I mean I’m not sure whether she’d have been getting a hit single with To the Beat of My Heart, but I do believe she wouldn’t have faced any ridicule with this song. P.S. I actually really did like Hair Down myself!

 

I’d say I’m glad that things worked out the way they did and that Steps got it for themselves, but considering Steps’ penchant to cover obscure songs even if they have been released, then maybe they’d have done To the Beat of My Heart even if Mollie had released it herself first! :lol:

Very little money to be made for any of them.

I think that’s just indicative of the Xenomania writing process, where they pluck different parts from different sessions and eventually throw them together into a final song, so that’s why there’s numerous writers.

This is a def a song that has grown on me alot over the last while, i really love the chorus part of it.

I'm so glad we've moved on from that style of production though.

To me it sounds like Mollie’s version has some simultaneities with Calvin/Rihanna’s We Found Love.
