The Tragedy one seems off to me, I thought it was on that amount for the last 5 years?

That Tragedy figure is actually 20,000 higher than the last time OCC gave a figure for it - they stated 1,160,000 in November 2020. But they also said 1,160,000 as far back as March 2017, so they're being very confusing.
It just seems a bit low considering it's had nearly 20 million streams on spotify plus whatever else it's done. When you have Deeper Shade of Blue, Stomp and It's the Way crossing over silver certifications when their original sales were very low and their streams being a lot lower then Tragedy. I find strange considering I remember 20 years ago Heartbeat/Tragedy being on about 1.1million. I would have put it on 1.4million by now.

I think the problem is that it seems it could be Heartbeat’s downloads/streams that contribute to the Heartbeat/Tragedy single, rather than Tragedy :( That’s the only explanation I can think for its very slow progress.

I’m wondering if someday Tragedy will certify silver by itself! If it did at least we’d have confirmation about the Heartbeat/Tragedy situation.

Update: I've added those 10 new Steps singles figures to the first post, and I've also finally added the information for Thank ABBA for the Music. The only work I still need to do is add Claire's singles and album. ^_^

So as things stand, this is the info we have for Steps singles from 1997 to 2001:

1,180,000 - Heartbeat / Tragedy [May 2021]

620,500 - 5,6,7,8 [May 2021]

484,000 - One for Sorrow [May 2021]

388,500 - Last Thing on My Mind [May 2021]

381,500 - Better Best Forgotten [May 2021]

337,500 - Love's Got a Hold on My Heart [May 2021]

(334,600 - Thank ABBA for the Music [December 1999])

324,500 - Chain Reaction [May 2021]

311,000 - Say You'll Be Mine / Better the Devil You Know [May 2021]

282,500 - It's the Way You Make Me Feel [May 2021]

238,500 - Deeper Shade of Blue [May 2021]

200,000(+) - Stomp [June 2018]

166,967 - After the Love Has Gone [June 2009]

163,554 - When I Said Goodbye / Summer of Love [June 2009]

113,890 - Here and Now / You'll Be Sorry [June 2009]

112,664 - Words Are Not Enough / I Know Him So Well [June 2009]

I really wish we could have updates for the bottom four singles!

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to tell if After the Love Has Gone passes 200,000 sales because it it already Silver certified based on shipments. With WISG/SOL I think it depends on which song's streams contribute to it. It'll take a lot longer to reach 200k if it's WISG.

I think we can be confident that Scared of the Dark will have a higher total than HAN/YBS and WANE/IKHSW!

In June 2009, Deeper Shade of Blue's total was 170,667 while Stomp had sales of 167,951. Deeper Shade of Blue went silver in May 2017, with Stomp reaching that milestone in June 2018. I could see Stomp having sold over 225,000 at this point, maybe 230,000.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the OCC would announce how many copies were sold weekly? Then we could add them together.

The Last Dance has certified Gold for 100,000 sales! :o I'm extremely surprised.

It went Silver on 29th September 2017. So it's done approximately 40,000 sales in 203 weeks, which works out as 197 sales per week on average. While that might not seem like much, it is oddly high for an album of B sides and remixes which don't have particularly high stream counts on Spotify... I mean only 5 of the tracks on that album have 100k+ streams on Spotify, and that's worldwide.

I mean, well done to them! My gut feeling is that the OCC is making an error with this album though lol~

I'm choosing to totally believe it is 100% ACCURATE!!!

Could it be that they have got this and What the future holds mixed up and actually WTFH has just passed Gold?

It doesn’t seem accurate but if it is that’s great!

I mean their b-sides are fantastic so if correct it’s fully deserved.

It could be correct, as it got a digital repackage release in February last year, so perhaps the bulk of the additional sales came as a result of that?
Slightest Touch in at number 9 on the sales chart (the chart that matters :P )
  • Author

That's great to see, and it's also #9 in the download chart!

The Slightest Touch sold between 1,372 [#10: Imagine Dragons - Believer] and 1,483 downloads [#8: Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart]

Take Me for a Ride has re-entered - it's #51 on sales and #49 in the download chart. It managed to sell between 311 [#50: Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline] & 329 downloads [#48: Anne-Marie & Niall Horan - Our Song]

Take Me for a Ride's chart runs:

27-44-(out for 2 weeks)-49... [Downloads]

29-45-(out for 2 weeks)-51... [sales]

The #27/#29 peaks was based on 1 day's worth of sales... Steps sold between 556 and 643 downloads. A week later it sold between 374 and 399. So essentially in 8 days it sold between 930 and 1,042. So interestingly The Slightest Touch attracted more download sales (between 1,372 and 1,483 in 7 days, as I said above). Maybe this comes down to more people preferring the song, but it's not exactly demonstrating that BMG's Thursday tactic is particularly beneficial? I really don't see why they persist with that...

Thanks for those sales estimates, i genuinely think the slightest touch had more appeal plus its a song at least a few people my own age would remember and if like me would enjoy Steps version. Totally agree about BMG's Thursday tactic, really dont see the benefits at all to acts like Steps and would rather they stay with Friday releases.
