This is the streaming services thread for May 2021, the go-to topic for the discussion of playlists and charts from services such as Spotify, Apple & Amazon!

Spotify FAQs

What is streaming? What are the chart rules regarding streaming?

For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read this thread.

How do I see today's Spotify chart?

To see the daily top 50 update on desktop, log in to Spotify, click 'Browse', then click 'Charts', then click 'United Kingdom Top 50', or click the link below. The desktop top 50 may update before anything else so is always worth checking if the website is not up to date. However recently it has been known to not to do (even when the website has), so do check all sources. Also note that the Spotify Website will update before external websites (Kworb, LivePopBars). Occasionally there will be a delay in the Spotify chart updating which could even take days.

Useful web links:

Spotify App [top 50]

Spotify Website [top 200]

Kworb [top 200 and extra data]

LivePopBars [top 200]

SponOnTrack [top 200]

How often does the chart update?

It should update once every day, usually in the early afternoon - although this is not 100% guaranteed. Sometimes the top 200 on the website will update but without the top 50 on the app updating, and sometimes there will be no update at all.

How many plays on Spotify equals one download sale?

100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. (Spotify will let you play a song on repeat 600 times if you really want to).

The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread. For information on what songs are currently on ACR and what songs will be moving to ACR, refer to this thread.

How much does Spotify contribute to the chart?

Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole, although the #1 still can be decided by who has better paid-for sales. Spotify counts for a good chunk of streaming sales (although it appears to be losing some market share as Apple Music and Amazon Music gain in popularity), so doing well on Spotify is essential for doing well in the chart.

Why is my fave not doing well on Spotify?

Is it being promoted on one of Spotify's major curated playlists? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists, with over a million followers. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist.

Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.

My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?

Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped artists/releases such as Justin Bieber/Ed Sheeran/Drake who will of course enter straight at the top.

What do the numbers mean?

The streaming figures cited in the daily chart are the number of streams each song received the previous day. Unlike the iTunes chart, Spotify is not a rolling chart so the numbers will only change once per day.

on Apple,

13 Billie

44 Little Mix

117 Kid Laroi ft Miley

plus all those DJ Khaled songs, with I Did It the highest at #29

also a bunch of Royal Blood tracks in the top 200

Body is also now #7 & 8 on Amazon, guess #1 combined in there (bad bad Alexa)

so watch it be #1 now :D

Billie only #86 on Amazon :/

Spotify:

#2 Your Power

#4 & #10 Body

#40 Royal Blood - Oblivion

#42 Confetti

and a few other climbers within the top 50

Your Power will have a My Future type run I think, really can't see it being a hit for her but happy to be proven wrong!

Body looks like it will be #1, come on lack of taste!

Won't "Body" be the first drill no.1 ever?

DJ Khaled deserves to flop, the only decent thing he produced was entirely down to Santana's melody and Rihanna's vocals.

I don't actually hate Body as much as most people on here but it's not worthy of a #1, hopefully Billie or Lil Nas can hold up well enough to prevent this.

The mixing on DJ Khaled's album is bizarre, especially on the Cardi B song - it all sounds like it's been very rushed. Not surprised to see it do fairly poorly, with all the big names involved.
On a random side note every time I hear Russ/Tion going on about "English girl named Fiona" and smoking cigarettes, I think of the Arctic Monkeys.
I'm not surprised about DJ Khaled at all, its release feels very muted and the last hit was nearly a year ago.

oh my combined Body has a huge lead:

1 Body 387+258= 645K

2 Montero 493K

3 Billie 440K

4 Kiss me more 398K

Billie had done very well, hope its enough for top 3 come Friday

DJ Khaled doesn't exactly have a history of getting big album bombs, in fact he's only made the UK Spotify top 50 with an album track once ever ('Don't Quit' got to #47 and that was from his imperial era when he got 2 UK #1s). 'I DID IT' entering at #53 is his second biggest album track debut ever, way above what he managed from his last album. So by his standards I wouldn't call it a flop at all.

I don't think there are many people out there who are checking for DJ Khaled albums  he just lives off the fanbases of whichever artists he puts on his songs. His albums are glorified compilations of songs/verses rejected from the actual artists' albums.

And how is the Body track credited I've seen it as Russ Millions & Tion Wayne to begin with and now since the remix has been added, it has been changed to Tion Wayne & Russ Millions, I'm confused.com ^_^ surely if its combined should be credited to the original as in Russ Millions & Tion Wayne... just saying ^_^
Royal Blood saving us from seeing Khaled at #1 on albums with 8k. :cheer:

I'm seeing Polyhex now and I can't believe Royal Blood still don't have any UK top 40 single. :o

Hopefully Oblivion will be the first one this Friday. :cheer:

Won't "Body" be the first drill no.1 ever?

Yeah it would be - I think Big Shaq's 'Man's Not Hot' still holds the title of highest charting UK drill song at the moment, matched by CJ's 'Whoopty' if you also count Brooklyn drill since that scene was basically birthed from UK drill. Headie One got a #2 hit of course but I wouldn't call 'Ain't It Different' a drill song at all, either way it wasn't a #1 anyway. (I see the treasure trove of all knowledge that is Wikipedia does tag 'Ain't It Different' as drill so your mileage may vary I guess)

Question regarding streams: do they also count on similar rate or even a bit different on other countries or globally as record sales ?

Without You - #31 - 164k

Without You Remix - #52 - #119k

Combined - 283k (Top 10)

What's the rules for remixes ? will Miley be credit on the charts or no ?
