Another absolutely brilliant single this era

Yes! The single run for this era has more or less been flawless.

This is such a banger :cheeseblock: All killer, no filler, when it comes to the singles from this era. What a run!

Michelle works really well in this song, an inspired choice of collaboration

Thank you so much everyone for making this a wee success. It was so much fun!
Another listening party soon?

I think we're planning to do an album listening party next week for Step One!

Great! Hope I can be there though

I'm sure we could potentially start an hour earlier!

That was a really fun session! Thanks to all of you who took part (and some of you even made some discoveries, so that's great!!).

For the most part they have an incredibly strong back catalogue of singles. Pop music would be a duller place without Steps!

My pleasure and amen 🙏🏻

Time zones and appointments meant I missed this but I’ll try and provide my thoughts as I would’ve loved to take part.

5, 6, 7, 8 - Where it all started and a number 1 here in Australia. I remember seeing this on Rage for the first time and hating it, then I saw it a second time and that ‘boot scootin’ chorus got stuck in my head. I grew to like it but only ever purchased the single back in 2011 so I could get the b-side ‘Words Of Wisdom’. I really enjoy it now but I do enjoy a good novelty hit.

Last Thing On My Mind - similar to the above I remember seeing this on Rage after the top 50 countdown had finished and fell in love with it instantly. Lisa became my favourite after seeing the video for this and I remember always being disappointed she didn’t get more vocals.

One For Sorrow - It seemed like a change in direction to me and I wasn’t a big fan of the Claire dominance at the time but I can easily say this is one of my favourite songs, not just Steps songs.

Heartbeat - Loved it when it first came out then started to dislike it buts it’s in the middle now. I remember getting this for Christmas 1999 alongside Step One. 10 year old me loved the video, now not so much.

Tragedy - This is just great. If I remember correctly it follow a similar pattern here to the UK. Heartbeat was on the radio and music channels first then around New Years this took over and I loved it. The video and dance routine is iconic. Along with 5, 6, 7, 8 it’s probably there most remembered hit here in Australia.

Better Best Forgotten - I remember being upset when this never got released in Australia then I discovered HMV imported singles and at the cost of $15 it wasn’t the first Steps import I purchased from HMV. A brilliant ABBA type song with a great video. A real solid end to the STEP one era.

Sorry I missed out on this, I had hoped it have made it as the thread looks to have been really good.

Better best forgotten was a brilliant way to close step one and it closed it on a high.
