Steptro - I used to LOVE this, such a way to open the album but I could never remember at which point they sang the LAST THING ON MY MIND! bit lol. I used to "perform" the entire album in my bedroom and I'd blurt it out too early over and over again, then Id miss it... sooooo annoying! I always thought Girls Aloud's intro to Chemistry reminded me of it a little and Christina Aguilera having her intro to stripped (which of course is WAY more iconic lol).
I love the album cover it's so of it's time. I also loved the homage to it with the Tears on the dancefloor so classy and nostalgic!

I felt it was delivered brilliantly too.

LAST THING ON MY MIND - of course the perfect follow up to Steptro and such an excellent song. So very Steps but yet has a lot of ABBA vibes to it too. They really upscaled this from the Bananarama version of the song (which is piss poor). I always struggled to remember the routine for this one which used to wind me up lol.

The Steps version really breathed life into Last Thing on my Mind.

The Bananarama version, while good, felt unfinished.

5,6,7,8 - This is so out of place on the album, yet at the same time it fits so well lol. For some reason back then I always thought that first albums had the first single first, the second after and the third after that (probably because of SPICE) and so I was convinced that 5,6,7,8 was the second single from this era and not the first. I was never aware of 5,6,7,8 until the album and I didn't get the album until I heard One for sorrow so that is possibly why. A rooting tooting catchy pop song I love it! I know it is not well liked in the fandom (and even in the band) but I've always loved it.
ONE FOR SORROW - I already shared my views on this song... a stone cold classic and easily one of the most iconic Steps songs ever possibly THE most iconic (or Tragedy). A killer of a song and the one that really made Steps into the band they became. I just wish it was all Claire, if the other girls sang on it then it would probably be in my top 2 Steps songs, however Claire dominating the whole thing taints it slightly for me.
HEARTBEAT - A beautiful track it ages better and better over time. Always think this sounds lovely on tour and I've always loved the video! The ties to Tragedy on this song make it quite iconic in it's own right. A lovely closure on Gold too!
THIS HEART WILL LOVE AGAIN - Not a song I've heard for quite some time as it's been a while since I've listened to the album fully. Really enjoying this one though it's so catchy the verses and the chorus. It's not single material but it's a strong album track.
EXPERIENCED - This is the worse song on the album and really shouldn't have happened! It's cringeworth and nobody wants to hear H singing about the content... nooooo stop it. Kind of not appropiate for the audience either lol. Criiiiinge!

Experienced is awful a complete tragedy.

Not sure why anyone ever thought it was a good idea.

TOO WEAK TO RESIST - By contrast I know this is also a pretty cringey song however I love it have a real soft spot for it "I'M JUST A MAAAAN" lol. I loved this right from first time of hearing it. It's definitely a guilty pleasure!
BETTER BEST FORGOTTEN - Oh my what a GEMMMM! This is made even more amazing by the fact it comes after two H led singles lol. This is my favourite Steps track ever it's such a bop I performed this SOOOOO many times growing up, I adore it! ADORE IT!
I agree. Experienced didn't fit the album at all. It sounded awful!
BACK TO YOU - STONE COLD CLASSIC!!! This is such an awesome album track and truly could have been a single in it's own right. I really think they could have squeeze another double a-side out of Step One and still got a big hit. This is such a dancey catchy tune. While it sounds of it's time and it is also very fresh sounding still. Can't decide if this or Love u more is my favourite album track.
LOVE U MORE - This is another amazing track. It's so cool and slick and sounds like it could be released today and still sound current on radio. As stated above I really think it would have been a perfect last single after BBF as a double a-side to show another side of Steps, they've never done anything quite like it ever since! Again I can't decide if this or BTY is better they are so different but both equally brilliant.
STAY WITH ME - I've not heard this for a while too and it's a really lovely track, I forgot just how much I genuinely like this song! It really has a similar sound to Sam Smiths Stay with me too actually how has that never been picked up?? A perfect closure to the album!

Just caught up,on this thread. Thanks to the hosts and everyone for sharing their thoughts and memories.

I’ll be sure to include mine ,after today. Deciding whether or not to add the b-sides or will there be a seperate b-sides listening party?
