Posted June 20, 20214 yr This thread is for discussing compilations from the 2000s decade Seeing as Now That's What I Call Music have never done releases for the individual years in the 2000s like they did for the 80s and the 90s, I thought I would compile my own. I am aware that there will probably be releases like this in the near future but I thought I'd do my own any way. They'll be 3 disc sets with MP3 packs available. I will be doing 2003, 2007 and 2001 first, I think. I've done artwork for 2003. I hope you enjoy Edited June 21, 20214 yr by Colm
June 22, 20214 yr It's impossible to compile "Now That's What I Call Music 2003" without both Sinead Quinn singles. :cheer:
June 29, 20214 yr Author Oh, it's very possible. It is very unlikely that anyone will get two spots on any of these compilations.
June 29, 20214 yr I approve of the retro colour co-ordinated artwork, rather than the let's-have-a-rainbow-regurgitate-violently standard that Now albums have enjoyed for nearly two decades. I do hope your 2003 doesn't repeat the mistake of the originals by omitting the classic hit "It's Okay [stargate Radio Mix]" by Des'ree.
June 29, 20214 yr I was very happy to spot a rare Shoat post on the forum. I'm even happier now I've realised it contains another Des'ree reference!
June 29, 20214 yr It is an appropriate tribute - like Des'ree herself in the "ago", I will also awaken every few years to rinse and repeat the exact same material in only very slightly remixed form. Dandu*, it is always a relief that you are still here as a strong, stable and unchanging influence. You are the Enya of Buzzjack (and that is genuinely a very high compliment). (So as not to totally derail Colm's thread) - I'd also like to say I hope Sinead Quinn doesn't feature. Whilst conceding Fame Academy would be very representative of 2003, better choices would be either Lemar (the most successful export), David Sneddon (the highest selling, if also dreadful) or Alex Parks (the best of the lead singles). June 30, 20214 yr Author I do hope your 2003 doesn't repeat the mistake of the originals by omitting the classic hit "It's Okay [stargate Radio Mix]" by Des'ree. Was there an original Now 2003?
June 30, 20214 yr Well, DVDs yes, which were largely rubbish and infuriatingly numbered ("2003" was actually 2002, "2004" was 2003) But still LOVELY ARTWORK which is the main thing
July 2, 20214 yr of all the suggestions so far Sinead Quinn's I Can't Break Down is the only one that was a significant track in my A-Z of the 21st century, oops. And that wouldnt quite make our top 40 of the year either, just falling short. Never heard of that Des'ree mix :o Ignoring oldies, I tend to favour stuff like Sonique, Pet Shop Boys (natch), tATu, Beyonce, Justin, Kurtis Mantronix, Dido, mel C, Moloko, Outkast, Jamelia, Junior Senior, 2-Pac, Evanescance, Electric Six, Oxygen, Blu Cantrell, Appleton, Tomcraft and many others.. So I guess it's a case of either the Best of the Biggies, or a mix of big hits and lesser known. A couple of the above might make it. Either way it will be interesting.... :)
July 2, 20214 yr Author The rules are a bit subjective. I have to be able to listen to any song that goes on to it - so no Nickelback. Charity singles, novelty singles are very unlikely to feature. Talent show winners/losers are not all going feature. It's rare that anyone will appear twice in the same year but if they're featured on others singles they may appear twice. I am overthinking this. 😁 Edited July 2, 20214 yr by Colm
July 2, 20214 yr I'm guessing that M83's “Run Into Flowers” will miss out here, because it peaked at #199 on 3 August 2003. : (
July 3, 20214 yr The rules are a bit subjective. I have to be able to listen to any song that goes on to it - so no Nickelback. :cheer: :yahoo:
July 6, 20214 yr Author Pet Shop Boys (natch) Re-listening to Miracles. It still sounds like Robert Miles produced it. Especially the intro.
