There is no timescale on when Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson will return from illness, says the Championship club's CEO Richard Gould.

Pearson, 58, missed the Robins' most recent match, Saturday's 3-2 defeat by Coventry, due to being unwell.

He was also absent from two games after contracting Covid-19 in September, the second time he has had the virus.

"He's not been well, clearly, he's missed three games and he's missed a few weeks for us," Gould said.

"He's spending some more time away at the moment, and we're hoping for a quick and full recovery.

"Nigel is normally so full of energy and enthusiasm and he's a strong character and I think when you lose your energy for whatever, reason, particularly for a man like Nigel, it hits you hard, and we've really missed him.

New Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has said his ambition is to get the club back to the Premier League.

The former Sheffield United manager took over at the Riverside on Sunday after the club parted company with Neil Warnock on Saturday.

"We will all do whatever we can to get back to the Premier League," he said.

"I've got to climb another mountain and that's what it's all about. I wouldn't be sat here if I didn't think I could do that."

He added: "It's got to be our ambition to get back to the Premier League. We all want to be playing the big guns and that has got to be my ambition and the staff's as well.

"The supporters want the big names to be coming here and seeing their side take them on. It's a long way off at the moment, but we dare to dream.

"We shouldn't be scared trying to repeat what went on here in the 90s. What has gone on before shouldn't hold us back. There is an opportunity to make history. As long as we're together, I'm sure we can push on."

Reading have been deducted six points by the English Football League for breaching financial rules.

The EFL determined the Royals lost £57.8m between 2017 and 2021 - the EFL's limit for that period is £39m.

A further six-point deduction is suspended until the end of next season, provided they comply with a business plan which includes player spending.

Reading drop from 16th to 19th in the Championship, on 16 points, four clear of the relegation places.

Cardiff seem uncharacteristically low in the Championship this season - has something particular happened to cause that or just a lack of form?

Good to see Stoke challenging for the playoff spots again for the first time since their relegation.

Birmingham City boss Lee Bowyer is "disappointed" by the "limited" funds he and technical director Craig Gardner will have to spend in the January transfer window.

Blues, who made the Championship top four after a bright start to the season, have slipped to 16th.

But, while still within eight points of the play-off places, Bowyer admits their hands are tied going forward.

6 points from the last 24 available for Bournemouth, and no wins since 6th November. The sort of form that saw Tindall sacked last season after a similar good start. An away trip to QPR next up won't be the easiest place to turn things around.
