I'm pleased 'Ghosttown' has stood the test of time to be this widely appreciated, it's definitely her best post-Confessions single and would've smashed for her if it was released a few years previously.

I am particularly happy to see Borderline, Deeper and Deeper, Don't Tell Me and Get Together in the top 20 representing some of her less-signature hits that are still so beloved. All-in-all, it's a brilliant top 20 though, the forum did well.

| 20. Open Your Heart 8.44

We kick off the top 20, with Open Your Heart, the fourth single from True Blue. Written originally for Cyndi Lauper, but later reworked by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, it became the upbeat, dance-pop song we know today. A huge commercial success (and #1 in the US), it thrived through its simplicity and playful nature, whereby Madonna declares her sexual and romantic desires. The music video for the song offered a contrast to the lyrical content: in it, Madonna plays the part of an exotic dancer, performing in a peep show club when she befriends a young boy and eventually escapes the club. A homage to Liza Minnelli and Marlene Dietrich, it was not without its controversy, but the video was praised and appreciated for its vision.

I agree! It's one of her absolute best and for a time was my favourite song from True Blue! I love the song and its infectious, joyous energy. The music video is great too and so unexpected for the song. A brilliant banger, #20 isn't high enough, but the quality is too strong now it seems :drama:

agree should be higher

I remember seeing the video as a kid and being totally obsessed

Open your heart is truly an amazing song. I really love the video.

| 19. Deeper and Deeper 8.46

Deeper and Deeper from Erotica drops out next. The second single from the album was written and produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone. A disco-infused, dance-pop number about sexual desire, some have taken the lyrics to reflect a young man coming to terms with his homosexuality. The music video for the song was a homage to Andy Warhol and Italian director Luchino Visconti and shows Madonna attending a night club for a night with her friends and lover. A song that underwent many changes in its production process, the end result is a rip-roaring celebratory anthem that really stands out on an otherwise more subdued and subtley sexualised album.

Another one that is "too low!!1" for me. Easily my favourite off Erotica, and one of my favourites OVERALL. Such a banger - I loved it live at the Rebel Heart Tour too
the jewel from Erotica

What a tune !!!

Madonna shook my hand during this song on the rebel heart tour ❤️

Love Open Your Heart. The song, the video. Seems a tad low here as bit of a classic in my opinion.

Deeper and Deeper is great. Love where is phases into Vogue. Not keen on the vid though.

D&D is good but not as good as the album's title song, Bad Girl and Rain. Madonna was so confused at that time…

| 18. Live To Tell 8.54

Slowing things down now with the lead single (of sorts?) from True Blue. Madonna decided to use Live to Tell for then-husband Sean Penn's film 'At Close Range'. Writing, composing and co-producing the song, the song is a cinematic ballad that includes intense instrumentation from drums and guitars. Lyrically, it tells of deceit, mistrust and childhood trauma. Madonna recalled her relationship with her parents when writing the song and conveying a sense of strength through its lyrics. In the music video, Madonna took on an Marilyn Monroe inspired look with golden hair and a more toned down appearance. The song went on to become a #1 single in the US and one of her most beloved ballads ever!

LTT would be in my top 5 !! It is sublime.
