Express Yourself is a legendary song in the way it broke the mould, inspired generations and gave us that music video. I can't say it's a real favourite of mine today, but it's still a great, fun, empowering listen every time. It's placed about right here I think!

I really appreciate Express Yourself as a true empowering Madonna anthem, but I don't love it, just like it a lot (especially live.

It's Madonna's quote about her own song and its subsequent legacy, thereforce it's relevant.

The title track and lead single for Madonna's 8th studio album Music is out next. The song was inspired by a Sting concert that Madonna attended. In the song, Madonna sings of the power of music to unite and break down boundaries between social classes. It's a fun song, with distorted vocals and funky instrumentation. A #1 in the US and the UK, it was a huge commercial success and showcased yet another genre-shift from the era that came before it. In the Jonas Åkerlund directed music video, Madonna is joined by Ali G. The stylisation of the video and the era helped to respark a fashion for cowboy attire. The song was a Grammy nominated song, where she also performed it live.

Music is pure fun but and i love it when i hear it, i just never choose to play it too often.
Music is great, still sounds fresh :)
I still like Music, not as much as when it came out but it's still a very good single. It's not something I choose to listen to very often at all but I do love it when it comes on as part of the Celebration comp.
Can you cross out the songs on page 1 that are out :)
I had a nightmare last night, part of which was Like a Prayer only finishing 7th in this.

Borderline: middle term

Ghosttown: not a big fan

Get Together: filler

Express Yourself: not a big fan

Music: great!

It’s really appropriate that it inspired Born This Way, another empowering track for a new generation

BTW was inspired by Whitney and Springsteen, not Express Yourself, according to Gaga herself.

Express Yourself is incredible. The song, the video, the opening performance on Blond Ambition. I'd say it deserved Top 10.

I wasn't sure when I first heard Music, but it's another great track from her. Expected it to be higher to be honest

Music is a lot of fun as mentioned. It's certainly not my favourite single from the era, but it's a great introduction into it: zany and fun while still having undertones of serious messages and lyrics.
Music was the right song for the right time, no wonder it's Madonna's latest #1 hit.
