I'm really loving that so many eras are represented in the top 10, really does show how consistent she's been over the decades

Agreed, this Top 10 really is incredible! I'm amazed at 'The Power of Goodbye' placing as high as #6 but it's great to see it starting to share more of the spotlight with the first two singles of the album. The strings, as blacksquare mentions, are gorgeous and her vocals feel so nurturing and wise which really strengthens the message of the song.

'Ray of Light' is a one of a kind, such a rush of chaotic energy and probably Orbit's most impressive production. The vocals too! Its frantic video is one of my earliest Madonna memories so it's the image that's imprinted in my mind whenever I think of Madonna.

'Hung Up' is my favourite ever Madonna song so naturally I'd have loved it to top this countdown, but I cannot fault the remaining Top 3 either. This song never fails to get me in the party mood and always goes down a storm on the dancefloor. It's certainly Madonna's signature song of my generation.

so whats the top 3? Frozen, Vogue and Like a Prayer I guess?

Hung Up is great, but Im happy with 4th place, think those 3 are better

Hung Up is her last great smash. It's such an incredible song and the Madonna song I hear most often because it's a staple for gay clubs. The sense of urgency throughout it makes it an exciting listen every single, damn time. She really brought the retro, yet modern, yet timeless song to a new generation of pop fans!

so whats the top 3? Frozen, Vogue and Like a Prayer I guess?

That is correct!

Like a Prayer? Tbf I was expecting a Frozen win tbf, feel like it’s been a long time coming, but wouldn’t have expected LAP to finish third.

I'm expecting a Frozen win also, just because I feel it appeals more to the member base here. Plus it's great too, obvs.

I'd be more surprised at Vogue beating Like a Prayer as I always thought Vogue was quite divisive on here.

Yeah I’ve got to say it’s odd that Vogue performed relatively bad on AF Idol yet is Top 3 here and has been in previous rates. Sorry to bring it up again but I do think bjork has a bit of a point when he says older Madonna songs have a bit of a disadvantage, not with Madonna fans but with the wider audience. It’s why we avoided sending pre-Ray of Light songs in AF Idol.
Oh there is definitely a disadvantage in those sorts of games - but I'd be exactly the same with songs released before I was born/a fan of music if they were pitted against tracks I loved when I was growing up. You can't replicate the emotional attachment.

Life is a mystery

| 03. Like A Prayer 9.69

Is this a shock? Or does it showcase the strength of Madonna's singles, as something so iconic can "only" reach #3 here. One of the defining songs of all time, a true masterpiece and the song that sent Madonna out of the stratosphere of pop legacies. The song was written and produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard and was Madonna's attempt at reaching a more adult audience. The song is about a girl's love for God, but also has hidden secondary meanings with layers upon layers of references and interpretations. Featuring a gospel choir, rock guitar and huge pop moments, the song is a defining moment of the 90s as Madonna combined religion, sex, dance, pop and everything in between. The music video also went on to be one of the biggest and most celebrated music videos - in it a woman is murdered and a black man is wrongly arrested for the crime. In the hugely controversial video featuring the Ku Klux Klan, burning crosses, stigmata and much more, Madonna made statement after statement and added further layers to the power of the song. A #1 single around the world, but only your 3rd favourite Madonna single here!

ohhhh poor Like a Prayer

hope Frozen wins, much prefer it to Vogue

Like a Prayer will always be my winner but at the same time it's nice to see something else win this time around - I can only see it being Frozen but will wait and see!

A SENSATIONAL anthem of course, but I too am happy that it isn't the winner this time if only to spice things up. Fully team Frozen out of the top 2 but what an iconic final 2. Two songs that couldn't be more different
