I definitely hear 'Up' in this!

I quite like it on the first listen, although that wordy chorus is gonna take some getting used to. I was hoping after seeing those lyrics that they'd be sung with a bit more attitude and gusto!

Probably the same as 'When The Future Holds' having a single mix/album version.

Good point, so potentially an extra verse.

I actually enjoy it!

+ I like that it’s a bit different, 80’s chilled Steps.

+ Different but fits perfectly into their discography.

+ It’s good that the message of the song is not in your face but lingering.

+ Love the artwork.

+ The balance between vocals. Claire blends in this one (it’s not a ‘Claire’ song) though her strong vocals still shine.

- The chorus could have been bigger. And in some way it also works for me.

9/10 for now :) Looking forward to the video!

I'm not sure on this just yet, I think its lacking a hook but I may think different after a few more listens.

4 on iTunes now.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet (I will imminently!), but here's a few things:

https://celebmix.com/wp-content/uploads/202...w-single-01.jpg - Ultra HQ artwork (3543x3543) [it highlights how some of the editing is quite shoddy though, lol]

Yesterday, H described Take Me for a Ride: "It’s much darker than anything we’ve released before.. but still undoubtedly @officialsteps!"

^ A few white spots around Lisa's hair too! It's a bit slapdash, they're small errors but the designer really should have noticed those. In Faye's hair you still see some of the original white background.

Tbh I wish they weren't rigidly sticking to The Saturdays-esque artwork designs.

Someone on Popjustice made this, and I think it looks more natural than what we got. I quite like the off-kilter red bar:

My first listen occurred half an hour ago and ooh... this is pretty different for them! Particular parts are still going round in my head. "I wonder where you wander, wonder..." / "take me for a riiiiiiiiiiide" in particular.

I really appreciate the 80s flavour. It being mid-tempo is a change of pace that I feel separates it from the Part 1 singles. It has quite a self-assured maturity to it! I think their vocals help it retain a Steps feel to it, despite the different soundscape - Claire's vocals are so distinctive!

I have a feeling this will be a grower and that with time I'll love it. For now, I'm liking it a lot!

#12 in Ireland 🇨🇮

I think it's a song that def a grower and it is different for them, Buzz was the third album first time around and they went in a slightly different direction and it seems to be same for their 3rd album this time around aswell.

My initial opinion on first listen is good and also different and an element of confidence in changing things up.

I listened to this a few times this AM. Underwhelming TBH. With the insurgence of 80s inspired tracks recently, they could have done so much better. The songs from this Era have been so punchy, and this just. Isn't. Subtle and Steps should never go together, especially with a lead song like this.

I hope we get another track soon.

Its not wowiing me like what the future holds did on first few listens but i was like that with scared of the dark initially, i wasnt fully sold on it but after a while that opinion changed dramatically.

I've only listened twice and it's lodged in my head, so not too subtle for me!

I have a feeling that Radio 2 listeners will connect with this song.

Hopefully it won't be too long until we have a music video.

It's definitely strong album track or 'lead deluxe edition' type track rather than lead single from a new album territory for me. I guess this is part two of an existing era though to be fair.

I can see it lasting longer in my affections than Dancing With A Broken Heart, for example, but after a few listens I can't imagine it ever becoming a big Steps favourite of mine.

It's an interesting release though, it does show a sonic evolution for sure, the only bit that slightly misses the mark for me is the chorus. It's catchy and I like it but a power pop 80s chorus would have been so good with maybe a truncated version of the existing chorus used as a bridge.
