Unpopular opinion but i'm not a big fan of Happier Than Ever. I much prefer Oxytocin, Getting Older, Billie Bossa Nova etc...

Fingers crossed we won't have to wait for ACR for a new #1 then! Although i'll wait to hear the track in full to judge whether I think it deserves a long stay at the top itself.

Do we think The Weeknd is in a big enough position right now to debut at #1?

I know he traditionally climbs to his eventual peak, but this is coming off the back of a pretty huge era.

It’s hard to say, I mean Save Your Tears only debuted in the mid 30’s so that definitely says something even though it took time to become the huge hit it did. I think it all just depends how good the song is really to determine whether it can debut at #1, he’s definitely been hyping it up on his socials.

I think it all just depends how good the song is really to determine whether it can debut at #1, he’s definitely been hyping it up on his socials.

'Save Your Tears' was a post-album single so that's not a fair comparison to a brand new single! The only reason its debut position was even that high was that the music video had a very instant impact.

He has only ever had one song that debuted in the top 5 though ('Starboy' entering at #3, even that didn't peak first week as it rose to #2 in its second week). 'Blinding Lights' only debuted at #12, albeit it was sharing the spotlight at the time with 'Heartless' which was initially the song being pushed more. It's definitely possible that he will have a bigger debut week this time since it is a big lead single coming off the back of an era which had 2 monster slow-burning hits, but I wouldn't necessarily bet on it going straight to #1 still.

I think it has a good shot at debuting at #1 even if its sales don't peak until a few weeks later, basically the same as Bad Habits. Probably depends on what sales Ed is on this Friday to see how fast he is dropping across all platforms and how much of a challenge #1 will be going into next week. Can't see anything else on the chart challenging a brand new Weeknd track atm apart from maybe Stay tbh.

Boooo at this revival of 'traitor'. Even if it had to be pushed as a proper single I was hoping it'd at least first go to ACR to give 'jealousy, jealousy' a shot at making the chart. I guess it still could do when 'favorite crime' goes to ACR though.

Jealousy, Jealousy will be pretty low by the time it charts unfortunately unless it has some sort of revival (if it's even above Deja Vu / Drivers License on ACR by that point).

Agree Favorite Crime would have been a much better 4th single than Traitor.

It is only very narrowly behind 'favorite crime' on both Spotify and Apple so I would assume it is still comfortably ahead of 'drivers license'/'deja vu' on ACR! Her tracks have been holding up extremely well for nearly 3 months now, if 'favorite crime' is still as high as #31 now I don't think it's out of the question that 'jealousy, jealousy' could still have a chance at making the top 40 a few weeks from now (and I think it's very likely it would if 'traitor' continued its trend and hit ACR next week as it was initially looking like it would).

Spotify isn't the full picture of course but today's numbers have 'deja vu' on 160k, 'drivers license' 152k and 'jealousy, jealousy' 124k - so the singles would need to be outperforming it by a huge margin on other platforms for them to still be ahead on ACR. ('favorite crime' had 132k today and of course we know that is ahead of the singles' ACR totals overall)

I'm sure Joseph could clarify though as I believe he usually has access to the numbers for starred out songs x

So Jealousy, Jealousy would have been low Top 40. Traitor might still be just ahead of it on ACR but you’re right the others would be well below at the moment. All the songs are declining gradually so in a few weeks JJ won’t be Top 40 on its current trajectory. x

‘Let them know’ is up to #36 on Apple (it was at #50 before last nights love island episode) and it’s shot up to #4 on iTunes, will be curious to see if it’s had a small boost on Spotify today but the live performance on love island last night has certainly helped, maybe it hasn’t peaked after all!

I reckon that it would completely depend on the song for Weeknd to go straight to no.1 but probably not. His non album release with Calvin Harris only debuted at 33 last September for example.
