August 12, 20213 yr Wow I'm shocked Heartbeat did not make it top 5, however the remaining 5 are my favourite 5 so I'm also pleased! I love 5,6,7,8 it's such an upbeat fun track plus I have so many me memories of doing the routine at parties, school disco and the caravan / holiday entertainment! I do agree it's very un-Steps which is funny as I'd say it's their most iconic song now! This heart will love again on the other hand is pure Steps, really melodic, Claire and Faye on lead, great harmonizing in chorus an overall great album track. Heartbeat, I didn't appreciate this song so much as a child but growing up I have come to really love it. It's such a beautiful ballad. I loved the video as a child and still do, I really liked their storyline videos in Heartbeat, Tragedy and Love got a hold of my heart!

I guess most of us wouldn't have predicted this result! :o Last Thing on My Mind is the second single from Step One, and became Step's first Top 10 hit when it reached #6 in April 1998. Like 5,6,7,8 before it, this single also achieved pretty impressive longevity considering the fast moving nature of the charts in the days of physical releases. This single spent an impressive 6 weeks in the Top 10: 6-7-9-7-6-9. As of May 2021 it is their fourth best selling single with 388,500 sales. Last Thing on My Mind is actually a cover version. It was originally released by Bananarama in 1992, but for them it wasn't a big commercial success - it only reached #71. It clearly needed Steps' touch! Steps covering fairly obscure songs has become a recurring theme throughout their career.

Until this year I hadn't heard Step One in full for years, so I had forgotten about how this song goes. I bet I loved it back in the day. As for now, I think it's very cute - an uplifting and poppy sugar rush of a song. Maybe those who gave this track a score of 11 or 10 can let us know your thoughts! Was this a missed single opportunity?
August 19, 20213 yr Not sure if it’s a missed single opportunity and maybe I did score it a little highly but to me it’s is a great song on the album. I can’t see it replacing an existing single so perhaps a double a with Love U More it could’ve worked.
August 19, 20213 yr I think it was a missed opportunity as a double a-side to love u more but not as a stand alone track replacing any of the others. It’s a great track though really catchy and I can see a great simple routine for fans to follow accompanying that chorus! Really glad it made too 5 justice for back to you 😍
