 Trying to be upbeat about it, in terms of the fact that 20+ years into their career they've managed to get three studio albums to peak at #2. There's many contemporary artists who'd love that sort of success, let alone the artists from back in Steps' heyday!

I hope there'll be another opportunity for #1 in the future. It was quite an exciting battle to partake in. The unfortunate thing about nowadays is how unpredictable things are in the midweeks because of when the online stores are ready to process sales and hand that data over to OCC. I'm guessing that Manics pulling ahead (apparently the gap is almost 2,000) is probably partly due to a big amount of delayed sales being registered, rather than purely being a last minute surge from their fanbase.

Oh well, well done to Manics because they've had to wait 23 years for their 2nd #1.

Disappointed with number 2 although number 2 is still brilliant for an act almost 25 years into their career who were seen as a one hit wonder.
Yeah well done to Manic St Preachers, they do deserve a second #1 album after a much more consistent career in music in terms of releasing material.
I'm both disappointed and proud, because a Part 2 album reaching no 2 is amazing. I guess they knew that no 1 wasn't possible, but they pretended to be a close race to sell more albums, which is smart PR.
Thankfully i actually like the manic street preachers, here in ireland the manics managed a number 9 debut with Steps at 22 so they easily won the battle here against steps
Too bad but #2 in the UK and #11 in Australia is nothing to be sniffed at! Hope it can stay around for some weeks. I also hope they reached the Flanders album charts.

01. 27,345 Manic Street Preachers - The Ultra Vivid Lament [24,881 physical sales]

02. 25,285 Steps - What the Future Holds, Pt. 2

2,060 behind in the end. It's at least nice that Steps finished over 25k at least! It's the third highest amount to place at #2 in 2021.

I am happy they finished with over 25k, its strange how the lead was down to 300 and then its went back to over 2000, manics obviously hadnt sales counted in from maybe their online shop until the last minute

At some point Steps were only 100 copies behind yesterday. Something smells fishy.

It had to be ANOTHER would have been #1 in several weeks of the year didn't it

I don't think this 100 copies thing is true; H shared someone else stating 100 copies, but the midweeks only update once a day and 330 was the gap yesterday officially.

These official stores can be quite overwhelmed with orders and it takes them time to process and dispatch them, so I think partly some of Manics boost would have been down to that. Some of those sales were probably from earlier than yesterday.

I think the same, i think the manics team at the official store may have been running behind during the week and knew they were under pressure to ensure all orders shipped and many probably only shipped yesterday which would explain the big sales gap increase on Steps from the Thursday midweeks.

While the hype and build up all week was enjoyable, the first midweeks on Monday heavily was outcome as the sales almost went back to where it was at that point.

Nah. Something is fishy. I get gut feelings. And I’ve never been wrong.
It's really great and more will come, for Claire it's her 10th top 10 album.

My bad in my head I was counting dj for some strange reason and momentarily forgetting the album with h bombed.
At least we know the Manics will fall quite fast compared to Steps.

We hope, who knows? What is Manic's album chart life normally like?
