I mean there’s no guarantee Ed’s new song will connect well enough to be a multi week #1. Next week is looking like a bit of an open goal though - Drake could still climb though if he stabilises.

This is certainly true, but it'd be no fun if it was guaranteed lol. Ed's got a chance at breaking the record but it's far from certain which is what makes it exciting

Options are probably: Olivia Rodrigo, Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Lewis Capaldi or a charity record at this point

I vote for RiRi lmao!

Don't Shut Me Down should stay top 10, I'm not so sure about ISHFIY as that's bleeding on streaming already.

Shame :( I got my physical copies today, surely that will keep them up there?

If Drake does end up getting beaten by Ed Sheeran in the singles chart and Iron Maiden in the albums chart, do we reckon combined with the increasing numbers of dance-pop and house tracks getting into the chart over the last 6-12 months we might be witnessing the end of the most recent rap/drill/trap boom?

If so, I can't bloody wait...

Whatever happens this week, it does certainly seem like the peak of the genre's surge was 2019-ish.

Rap music has been #1 on the singles chart for a grand total of 2 songs / 8 weeks this year (and honestly it's being generous to consider 'MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)' a rap song) and the albums chart for 4 albums / 5 weeks. It's not exactly been a dominant force recently. Drake is still going to be pulling in numbers similar or greater than some of his previous #1s anyway, it just has stronger competition.

It definitely isn't going to be disappearing from the charts entirely if that's what you mean lol

No? The fastest selling album of the year so far is a rap album lol. Drake's album was just mediocre at best (could say that about Scorpion too tbf but that one seemed to be more well received overall than CLB) and it's still pulling very impressive figures. It just has stronger competition.

I highly doubt Olivia will be releasing a brand new single any time soon considering how well good 4 u is still doing plus all the tracks from her album are still streaming well.

Maybe a new single from a deluxe of the current release in time for Xmas?

Really happy to see ED back at number 1 and I hope he can maintain the lead over Drake. Nice to see Imagine Dragons moving up in the albums as I had thought they might have falling out of the top 10 in todays update rather than move closer to the top 5.

Hasn't that ended a while back already?

There are not many rap songs that have reached #1 this year. Montero is more pop than rap imo, so it's only Body.

I more meant lower down the charts where there's still a fair bit of this stuff popping up. It would nice to get some more house orientated charts.

don't think its true, rap artists still make the top 40 much easier than pop artists

and dance artists only make the charts if added to playlists

Drake will EASILY end up with the #1 album next week if he doesn't get it this week! With streaming missing from yesterday's update, Drake will be hella closer to IM!!

but bare in mind Drake's streams are getting lower and lower every day

next week he's against Manic Street Preachers, who have a very loyal fanbase that buys physicals

their last album opened with 24K, which I doubt Drake can match next week
